I mean, the sligs are victims of this system as well, just a tier of exploitation barely above the Mudokans. Seeing them get to rise up is intensely satisfying, In a way, Abe will liberate their race as well.
I couldn’t help but think about this. If the Mudokons go extinct, what other species can do all of the Mudokons’ work other than the Sligs? The Sligs would have to be fully enslaved in order to get all of the cleaning jobs done. The Glukkons can do just that. Sligs are much more easily enslavable than the Mudokons and would be the only blue collar labor left.
Honestly, I love that they decided to just do a straight up re-imagining of Abe's Exodus, now they have the freedom to make what they really wanted to make at the time but were held hostage by the time limit. I can't wait to see more "official" entries in the future.
Bruh this is not just a game... this is a fucking movie, its an hour and 15 mins longs crazy no wonder it took so long for them to release this game, this is beautiful
Something about the interactions between Molluck and his Chauffeur feels so real, especially the way Molluck doesn't let Chauffer's words slip past him, yet he never outright snaps (besides the bad ending). The way Chauffer keeps trying to reassure him, like telling him that Molluck could probably still afford an economy air-yacht comes across as someone trying to desperately stay on their partner's good-side. The way even the cruel sadistic villains are still people is just. MMM. Yes please.
Me too! It's really sweet that the Keeper actually took the moment to comfort him after what he'd learned, too. I think that's the most comfort and reassurance that Abe has received on his entire journey so far. The shaman from the beginning was indifferent to his concerns about his mother, but the Keeper takes the time to actually acknowledge his pain and give him some comfort.
@@mystic_hero8800 I can only explain without spoilers. But basically, Abe saw exactly how great the Mudokon race was ages ago, saw the great betrayal by those who were once the Mudokons' allies, and how his people were enslaved. He also learned what he tells Alf and Toby at the end of the Good Ending. I suggest doing some research if you really want to know more.
@@DreamDragoness25 Already read the wiki and Sam basically their mother is enslaved and is surrounded by robots to keep her happy and keep her producing eggs. But yea already know what happened so thanks anyway.
The way Abe cradled the face of the dying Mudokon was such a beautiful, intimate moment. You can feel how much Abe loves his people and feels protective of them.
@@ridjenite That's really up to the folks at Oddworld Inhabitants. They might want to focus on actually finishing the Quintology before anything. They only have 2 canon games in it so far: Abe's Oddysee and Munch's Oddysee. (Exoddus and Stranger's Wrath are spin-offs, not actual Quintology stuff.)
@@DreamDragoness25 Abe's Exoddus was supposed to be the second in the quintology, but the time constraints made it an expansion pack rather than a sequel. Now that Soulstorm is out, it is.
I really love the fact the sligs also realized they were also being mistreated and rebelled. Makes me hope to see a game where the sligs turn to the other side or perhaps Slig storm becomes a reality.
I love how the plot thickens with the Keeper saying "it was the only way!" and that the Mudokons are so much more?! I have so many questions!! :"D Their mom, Nolybab, the moon, "something greater at stake" than just their freedom. So much hype for the future games and the online series and movie!! Hopefully we'll get to see the conclusions in our lifetime!
The Mudokons were the ruling race of Oddworld until the Glukkons eventually took the position from them. And much of the Mudokon decline was self-inflicted more so than the fault of the Glukkon (who did have a hand in it, but not that big until SoulStorm Brew was invented). This is also why the Keepers want to keep this a secret because much of Mudokon history and the details of their declien is shameful since they can't just blame the Glukkons for it.
Weren’t the Glukkons directly responsible for the Mudokons’ downfall? They used to live in harmony but when the Mudokon moon appeared the Glukkons broke off their ties with them and hid themselves away, grew in power then came back and enslaved them all.
@@bigstevie01 Not so, actually. The Glukkons retreated underground and industrialized, but the Mudokan civilization declined on its own to the point of going to the Glukkons for work at some point, which the Glukkons eventually used to enslave them from employees to slaves.. Essentially, the Glukkons did the final blow but most of the blows leading up to the Mudokan enslavement was their own doing. What said blows are so far are unknown, but the painful aspect of the lost history points to the Mudokans possibly letting the "chosen race" narrative thing get to their heads and do some bad stuff, because otherwise just blaming the Glukkons would be easy to digest and cope with. The Keepers wouldn't keep a history that's "The Glukkons did it" a painful secret since there's nothing painful about having all the fault be their enemies'.
@@dazmaz1269 Yeah, makes sense considering that they were allies at one point. Though a nice subtle detail (possibly unintentional?) is that "normal" female Mudokons exist while any evidence of "normal" female Gluks is non-existent, showing that they *are* different, but still very similar.
@GAMP: Sicker than your average kigger nilller hell ya man this game only had a budget of 15 mil. This shit is clean for being that cheap when compared too bigger games
I was never into Oddworld even though I fondly remembered seeing ads all over EGM covers. The attention to detail on some of these scenes are incredible. Like at 28:19 the light reflecting on his eyes like an animal when he turns. Super cool!
I understand why they changed the overall story of Exodus, afterall it was essentially the same as Oddysee, but I really wish they had kept the original story that tells that the brewery was made from Mudokon bones, the whole blind Mudokons diggining their own ancestors graves was a really cool concept to me. I personally loved the spirits that visited Abe, so for me it sucks that they don't show up in the game. But I overall think that in terms of cutscenes and story this was really cool. I'm hoping they revisit Much and Stranger's stories. Munch's game was probably my first game ever when I was a kid and it's still one of my all time favourites so I really hope they bring it back somehow.
The Mudokon bones is still in the game but its more of a background story element. Since in this game the Glukkons have no reason to keep the digging of bones secret cause its all about the addiction of Brew and it killing people. But it would've been nice to have it mentioned in a cutscene
This is what happens, when you get a team of developers who love what they do and are passionate about a property. Oddworld is amazing, I've only ever played munch's odyssey for the GBA but the story is just so good, the characters are memorable and it's damn good argument for why video games are an artform. Can't wait for the next installment.
There's a lot of bee imagery in this (abe's necklace, the hive like structures in the Keeper's place, and even the tattoo on the Keeper's head). I'm guessing its foreshadowing to how, like bees, they have a Mudokon queen that produces their eggs.
@@wufo1238 Not slaves. The Queens were usually treated with the same reverence that an idol or a chieftain would be, but they were never the masters of their tribe. There’s no compulsion to obey the queen in them, the Mudokons we see are acting on their own free will.
I like how the technology in oddworld is advanced but has a mix of 1800's and 80's machines,it's like the outdated stuff was kept around and was improved upon over time instead of just thrown out.
They have to, at least I'd hope so, but then why not remake Stranger's Wrath too? Then they can probably work on the other "-oddlogy" games they didn't get to work on when the original games were made.
This game has got some of the most visually stunning cutscenes I've ever seen. The Glukkons are especially nasty-looking now, though I do kind of miss the more varied colors they had between them, like specifically how different the Brewmaster used to look.
Literally cried with joy upon playing this , I played the original oddeysey and exodus as a child and this brought back so much nostalgia and joy , glad they stayed faithful
In the beginning when Abe said "her" was the biggest shock because, as far as I recall, there was never a "her" anything on Abe's journey. But I knew it had to be their queen because I remember reading about this in an old Oddworld website that said they were like ants and were either genderless or all male. I doubt it but, I do hope we get another game because I hate these cliffhangers but they really amped the story to be more dramatic.
I like to think that Abe becoming Shrykull near the end there was the cosmos way of balancing out the Qwarma of the universe. Abe put so much positive Qwarma back that he was able to invoke Shrykull and cause a path of destruction, thus setting his Qwarma back to Zero. (With a little to Spare allowing them to escape)
@@ZekeWarhammer He’s a demigod in Mudokon Mythology, the patron of liberators and the freer of the slaves. His sacred animals are the Paramite and the Scrab, and any who curry favor with these beasts are sure to have him smile upon their efforts.
I love the role they're giving Molluk in this game. Sure, he worked as a one and done villain for the first game, but to see him turn into the main villain is a cooler idea, as well as having be the opposite of Abe. While Abe is getting more and more respect from his fellow Mudokens, Molluk is getting more and more alienated and shamed from his fellow Glukkons.
1:03:34 The Slig Rebellion! Slig gang! Slig gang! What up my fellow sligies! Wanna join the rebellion ? 😆😆 this moment right here is the reason why I love the sligs!
@@countduckula1485 Also later on, Sliggy: "I think I'm starting to see the error of our ways, and I'm not very proud of what we did to the mudokins now. We need to team up with them." Part of Oddworld Magog Fate. P.S. I know that wouldn't be the name, yet I know they now of course want to make a third completely brand new Oddworld game that continues from the new HD Remaster plot of course of this game.
Spoilers about the mudokon mom: Mudokons are like bees: they rely on a single queen, like the Gluckons and sligs, to give birth to a constant stream of babies. The mudokon Queen is called Sam, and she only accepted Gluckon bondage to ensure that her species wouldn’t go extinct. The Glukkon Queen is called Maggie, and there is a Slig Queen too (she gives up her babies only because she doesn’t really care about them). Her name is Skillya. When Sam was captured, baby Abe wouldn’t stop crying, and this would most likely get him killed because it would mean he is the runt of the litter. So to keep him quiet, and save his life, Sam took to drastic action by sewing his lips shut.
@@bogusdavallante7039 oh, I bought the book by Oddworld Inhabitants called Abe's origins. It has all you need to know about the making of Oddworld so far.
With all the silliness in the game, its easy to forget how dark it can actually be. The scene where Abe learns the truth about their race is heartbreaking.
This is one of the best sequel game in history of gaming. The story is so emotional and dark. The graphics are quality movie and the voice acting is superb...10 out of 10
Wait so not all of the workforce is bad? The Brewmaster mentions Union representatives? I love how they’re making the world more subjective... Honestly, I love that they decided to just do a straight up re-imagining of Abe's Exodus, now they have the freedom to make what they really wanted to make at the time but were held hostage by the time limit. I can't wait to see more "official" entries in the future.

MMM. Yes please.

40:14 At that moment, I wanted give Abe a comforting hug. T_T
"To behold such terrible truth, so much for a heart to bare"
Can someone explain what Abe saw?
Man, I really wish they'd make a streaming series of Oddworld. Gameplay is fine but their cinematics are phenomenal.
Oh, god yes. Think about how much they could tell, how many more Mudokons they could create, or even see in depth what goes on with the sligs.
There was talk of an Oddworld movie once. It was supposed to be made after a project called Citizen Seige, but neither got off the ground.
@@DreamDragoness25 Maybe now that Oddworld is back in the zeitgeist, it might become a reality.
@@bigstevie01
Not so, actually.
@@joshuakim5240 Oh yeah you’re right, I’d forgotten the Mudokons went to work for them willingly at first and that dynamic changed over time.
Has anyone else noticed that Modokin eyes never blink at the same time?
I guess it serves as a reminder that Mudokons are very much aliens. I like it, it gives them more of an indentitiy, I feel.
@@glupper Another interesting thing to note is that Glukkons also have a queen. Very much gives the two a "two sides of the same coin" aspect.

Molluck's right hand man legit had me laughing out loud. That was very well done dialog.
1:02:10 did anyone else spot that Slig giving the middle finger?

@@voidmoth_illust With the smallest Slig finger of all.
The newspaper is also called MOM. Makes me think she is may be a queen and mudokons are all the workers (aka slave)
@@wufo1238 Not slaves. The Queens were usually treated with the same reverence that an idol or a chieftain would be, but they were never the masters of their tribe. There’s no compulsion to obey the queen in them, the Mudokons we see are acting on their own free will.
A year later, and I'm just now seeing this. We hope you enjoyed the game Rubhen! Thanks for putting this together.

@Teutonic Knight Exactly.
It's funny how there is just a few franchise that lived through 5 generation of consoles, and still be pretty deep. What a masterpiece.
I wish they’d included the 3 Weirdos from the original game, but this is still an amazing game.
You forgot more:
Blind

Depressed
Wired and
Sick muds
Technically that whole cave is the Three Weirdos, or more accurately, the Three Thousand Weirdos
Also should note that's the first time Alf has seen his Best buddy Abe go Shrykull.

Spoilers about the mudokon mom:
Mudokons are like bees: they rely on a single queen, like the Gluckons and sligs, to give birth to a constant stream of babies.
