Community Forum Program | Schuylkill River Greenways Reading Projects

Schuylkill River Greenways (SRG) celebrates the Schuylkill River watershed as a national historic site, with a trail running from Schuylkill County to Philadelphia. In partnership with the City of Reading, West Reading, and the county, SRG is developing a plan to improve the trail in Reading by closing gaps and making it more attractive. One key project focuses on upgrading Reading Gateway Bridge, which connects West Reading and the City of Reading at RACC. The bridge, though functional, lacks visual appeal. SRG envisions incorporating public art or architectural designs that would make the bridge more attractive and inviting.
A second project aims to close a gap in the trail from RACC along Front Street to the existing trail on River Road. A third project will focus on improvements to the trail between Buttonwood Street and Schuylkill Avenue. These projects will enhance the trail and reconnect the city to the river by creating a more attractive and engaging environment. Elaine Schaefer, Executive Director of SRG, will share this vision and the ongoing partnership.
