This is an EXCELLENT podcast in identifying intellectual dishonesty and logical fallacies. : ) I hope you make more videos. I'm very pro-Second Amendment, but I have to admit your points on strawmen argumentation is spot-on!
This should be required viewing for every college student, business executive, and public servant. Irrefutably clear and logical... it makes me want to scream that so little of it makes its way into public discourse. We need a rational revolution. Who's on board?
This podcast in itself has been a tremendous asset in my life. But this show specifically was one of those shows that was a game changer. Cognitive discourse, cognitive friction and intellectual humility are all things that this world needs to see more examples of. Truly, exemplary content.
I like this, but I have a bone to pick about that part about aphorisms...Aphorisms are not meant to be specific it's a general way of communicating understandable information in a quick and memorable way. So they hold aphorisms to a standard that is not meant to evaluate the use of that part of the English language. Of course, we should not speak solely in aphorisms, we also should not knock them because they're not specific enough. They have a particular and valuable use. And if you spend a lot of time planning before getting bitten by a shark, you didn't understand what the failure to plan = planning to fail argument is intended. And punching it in the nose (maybe true, maybe not), i.e. facing that which scares you most, might just save your life...Because even if you are Michael Phelps, you are going to die in a swimming race with a shark. Google says: Aphorism a pithy observation that contains a general truth, such as, “if it ain't broke, don't fix it.”. "the old aphorism “the child is father to the man”" Similar: saying, maxim, axiom, adage, precept, epigram, epigraph, dictum, gnome, pearl of wisdom a concise statement of a scientific principle, typically by an ancient classical author. "the opening sentence of the first aphorism of Hippocrates"
