- Visited the SVR to video 4079 'Pendennis Castle'
Have waited over 20 years to see this lovely loco in steam.
Saw it last year in works at Didcot.
I wasn't disappointed!
On Thursday it ran exclusively on the line & then appeared in the Gala itself with other locomotives incl. newly restored 4930 'Hagley Hall'.
Enjoy a Castle Class performance!
GWR 4073 "Castle" Class No. 4079 Pendennis Castle is a 4-6-0 steam locomotive built in 1924 for the Great Western Railway (GWR) at Swindon Works to a design of Charles Collett. It was employed on long-distance express passenger trains on the GWR and its successor, British Railways' Western Region.
Pendennis Castle gained initial notoriety in 1925, when it outperformed rival engines during trials on the London and North Eastern Railway. It was bought for preservation in 1964 after covering 1.75 million miles in revenue earning service. In 1977, it was sold to Hamersley Iron, based in Western Australia, where it was shipped in the following year and operated until 1994. Upon returning to England in 2000, the engine awaited restoration at Didcot Railway Centre, its new base, which took volunteers 16 years to complete. In August 2021, Pendennis Castle returned to steam for the first time in 27 years, and will run on heritage railways across Britain.
SVR being the first heritage railway 4079 has visited.
Very nice done, thumbs up :)
Thank you 👍
This is a Great Video, a Really Nice Looking Engine.👍
Thank you very much it looked great
At last Ger, you got to see her, it's such a shame, that once again, whist Didcot turn these Ex GWR locos looking superb, the mechanical side of the restoration leaves a lot to be desired as clearly seen in your footage. Excellent work...Best wishes....Bob
Bob I thought exactly the same. Leaking steam & Didcot! Otherwise the loco performed so well. Glad I got to see it. Thanks for your comments, Geraint
Excellent video 👍

@@caerphillycastle Your welcome.
Certainly seems to go well enough, though the steam tightness of the cylinders really needs looking at.
That makes 4079 pendennis castle the fourth didcot resident engine to come to the Severn valley railway after lady of legend 2999 visited here twice first was 2 years ago in 2021 and again last year and the large prairie 4144 in 2019 some 4 years ago along with 6023 king Edward ll visited here in 2018 some 5 years ago Geraint
Indeed but dont forget 6023 KE2 also.
@@caerphillycastle that’s what I said 6023 as the first didcot engine to come here before 4144 2999 and this years 4079
