What I don’t like about TikTok is the excessive use of product. The end result is nice but you really don’t need to use that much concealer to brighten the under eye or to “carve” out your brows. You can achieve a flawless beat with a lot less product…trust me. Also, that much coverage looks cakey in person. I don’t care how much time you’ve spent blending that contour, if I’m face to face with you I will see the lines on your nose. IMO, full coverage beats only look good in pictures. For everyday, use a light to medium coverage complexion product and skip the contour and use bronzer instead. Just the 2 cents of someone who’s been wearing makeup 25+ years.
I agree. The excessive makeup thing is driving me crazy. Looks great on camera but terrible in person. I like to use only what’s necessary. Which is just a little bit lol

What’s a good starter kit for someone who wants to start doing their makeup, like what would be all the products I need to start?
Megan an foundation, concealer, contour and if you like blush for your base. If u want to shape and enhance your eyebrows, an eyebrow pencil with a spoolie at the end. and for the longevity of your makeup, primer, setting powder and setting spray

I stopped using setting spray. Only if I know I’m about to have a king day/night. It can look oily quick and as time goes on.

i think everyone forgets that makeup is another form of art . not everything is about covering up or hiding “imperfections” . all of the girls on here have beautiful skin w/o makeup , they’re are simply using it because they WANT to ... they do their makeup based on how THEY want it , not based off what you people say. if they want a dramatic makeup look then THATS OKAY ! no one is forcing you to do what they are doing. stop being close-minded & focus on yourself

It’s not being closed minded to say you don’t like something or for some trying to give genuine advice for people who don’t know how to do makeup, trust me there are a lot of people who don’t know how to do makeup they come to look at the videos for inspiration so the positive and negative comments help. Helps people to know what they are looking for and not looking for. This is reality they put themselves out here fully knowing there will be mixed opinions the bullies I understand you on that it’s unavoidable but not everyone is going to like the same thing regardless of someone’s passion for it or not. I don’t like the one at all with the white around the eyes but that’s fine if she likes it great, unfortunately some people don’t like certain looks and say mean comments I just ignore it. I do art my self and I can tell you art is always met with criticism just like anything else.

@@kiararansom1952 but the thing is they aren't asking for advice and if someone is new to makeup and want to find inspiration, thats fine but there is no need to comment negative things or make a comment on what somebody else likes just because they dont agree with it. there are videos that are made specifically for people who are looking for advice .. and im sure the people in the video are showing how THEY do THEIR makeup. if its not CONSTRUCTIVE criticism or anything kind, why comment at all? this is not direct to anyone except for the people that make those type of comments ... i get everyone will have their own opinions and their own likes/dislikes .. and i also know that b/c people post things to the public , there will be comments on it but it's still no justifying it

7:50 The under eye was too prominent and not blended with the rest of her face which made the final look cartoonish. The more natural tones used and the more blended your lines are the better-unless aiming for theatrical or drag. .

Mainly if you focus on lining brows, finding the right primer and applying lashes (optional)
The rest will come easy with time.
My reasons:
-BROWS: if your brow is bad, your makeup comes out imperfect. Brows and contour bring out the shape of your face
-EYE LINE (optional step): accentuates the eyes but not necessary in your makeup routine. But if you are into glam looks then learning how to do cat eyes is your best friend
-CONTOUR (optional): contour most times is not needed IF the foundation is blended nicely with the primer and it is not too bright against your skin. You can just bronze instead. But again if you like glam looks or looking snatched with those accentuated angles in pics then I would recommend contour.
-LASHES (in between): why I say in between is because applying false lashes is very easy for some compared to others. It honestly depends on how curly your lashes are. Other factors that come into play could be the type of glue you use, the amount of time you allowed the glue to get tacky or the visibility of your eyesight during application.
TIPS that helped me
-perfecting my makeup routine with drugstore makeup before going to the high end
-drawing makeup on my hand (if you don’t already know how to draw you can skip this step) -I would only draw one eyeshadow look and brows on my arm or hand.
-started off doing natural looks first then builded my way up (as simple as lashes, brows, and lipgloss in one look)
-finding the right primer is your best friend
-experimenting on others even your male siblings
-knowing what makeup looks works for your face
-using a light hand especially with concealing brows
-technical brushes are key (might be more expensive but they will help create that more precise flawless look
-mistakes with eye liner: qtip with micellar water or concealer fixes it
-mistakes with overall makeup: setting powder close to your shade fixes it.

How does this makeup look like in real life? Because the contouring is really massive, I wonder if it looks as good irl , when I contour it looks crazy
Depends on the shade you’re using, when I first started my contouring stages it looked like someone punched me in my jaw. Now I use a shade close to my foundation but a tad darker so you can see it just slightly. For me that’s the perfect combo and then I take an even darker powder very lightly and go over top of that and boom it’s done. Much better for me that way

That was my go-to in the 90s!! I loved that dark pencil liner and clear gloss!! Just like Mary J. Blige and Foxy Brown!!

None of this looks good in person, they are also heavily filtered so it looks flawless in video. This is why I stopped watching most makeup tutorials, i ony watch the "realistic makeup therapy" ones .
A lot of these actually look good in person just now as airbrushed as it seems over the phone. Only difference is irl you’ll see texture from the skin depending on what their skin is like. Also depends on the kind of products you’re using but I’ve definitely seen some like this irl and they looked amazing.
Bet most of the people in the comments complaining are either girls that don’t know shit about makeup or how to do it on themselves and when they do they look like s clown, or aunties that don’t know how to do any other makeup than that stick thin eyebrows they draw on with a pencil and their ten year old sleek powder foundation they rub all over their face with that lil plastic sponge - both of which they bought from the hair store 💀

It seems like a lot of makeup. Why so many shade transitions? All beautiful tho.
When doing Makeup first most people apply foundation which is supposed to match your skin complexion. This step is to even out your skin cover blemishes or red spots.. Then add a lighter color which most times it's concealer and that's to mimick where light hits your face which is mostly the center of your face like your forehead under your eyes you are cheeks above your top lip and your chin. The darker Contour is to bring definition back into your face basically sculpting. So normally people use three different colors because each one serves a purpose when applying makeup
