This holds up. The cinematography and editing and narration... This is long before drone shots and gopros. Bloody oath. I thought The Bush Tucker Man was my own personal Mandela effect... like I was the only one who remembered him till now. I grew up with this bloke on the telly back in the nineties. I'm so happy to see this again. It's like being dragged kicking and screaming through my own nostalgia.
That's awesome Craig 😊 id like to go there again. I'm from the gold coast originally and went there as a kid in 88. I really liked what I saw. I must visit that part of the world again
Still as fascinating and relevant re-watching this in 2023 from the 80s, survival, history ancient and contemporary, biology lessons, aboriginal culture all brilliantly spliced with excellent videography orated by legendary Les Hiddins in his natural ocker style with occasional dry Aussie humour and hints. Thanks Les and Aunty 👍
Another stellar episode by Les Hiddins! 19:33 Interestingly, Truscott Airbase (now Mungalalu-Truscott Airbase) is in operation today with a bitumen runway, used as a base for oil and gas field operations in the Timor Sea. It was registered in 2005 which must coincide with when the airfield was resurrected.
ABC Thank you, Les is part of the Real Bushmasters! Thank you, Les! We love your teaching about survival and its fundamental! This is priceless! My, you live forever in the Lord! Brother, I will see you in The Lord God, KINGDOM!
Yay, it’s back! One of my favorite shows. Why don’t they air more educational stuff like this instead of all the mindless trash we’ve had to put up with. Very educational!
Your going to sleep on the ground with all the creepy crawlers. And the snakes looking for a warm place to spend the night. I've watched your adventures before and I loved it. I spent 43 days camped on one of Alberta's rivers hunting and just messing around. It was the best 43 days in this 69 year old's life. Fresh fish every night or wild ruffed grouse ya just couldn't beat it. The best to you in your travels. ALBERTA CANADA
As a Fijian boy growing up in the pilbara in the 90's when we had two channels to watch use to love watching these shows and jumping on the bike and going exploring around town Don't forget malcolm Douglas lads
So I finally learned why some places are safe to swim and its because the crocs can't get up the waterfalls. I see videos of folks swimming in some water holes and they say there aren't any crocs but no word on why there aren't any or how they know this. This guy finally explains it and it makes sense. Thank you for that.
I used to have a little round digital clock stuck in the top of my hard hat. I had a bunch of guys thinking I could tell the time by sticking a shovel upright in the dirt, then holding my hard hat up between me and the sun. Then one day my hard hat fell off and hit the floor 40 feet below and the little time piece popped out.
At 10:36 what brand of pocket knife is he using? To me it looks very much like a brand we had in the States called Old Timer. I have carried one for 50 years of my life.
Thank you for sharing this with us. I find it so fascinating! Please upload more. I would buy the DVDs if I had a DVD player. With everything streamed online these days they've become pretty much useless.
If you think your going to need something, take two. Yep, wild country. 20 years ago I would have loved to go tromping about in the bush. So I watch these video's and dream of things I cant do.
I didn’t realize you have your own channel until I read one of the comments here. Subscribed! Love your sense of humor and content! I would love to watch your videos on your channel so you get the benefit? How am I so late to the party?
Some lovely segues but the swim across the river made me nervous,I wouldn’t put it past some smart Alec Aussie to slip a croc or two there in the hope of giving someone a big surprise, what I did find intriguing was the fact that les bits his finger nails as I would if I found myself in the kimberleys.
14min the Bradshaw, isn't interesting that we know nothing about them and when they were done. Man I wish I could have went with him at this time. So much untouched
I wonder if anyone has done a test on what the Bradshaws are painted with? Obviously it looks like a black material today and the paintings have probably been there a long time if the local black fellas don't know who did the painting's and who also say it has nothing to do with them. Maybe a chemical test could answer what the black paint is exactly and that may help narrow down the search to ownership. Although I agree with Les it looks African, I could also say it looks like it could be from Papua, or even the various islands between mainland Oz and Papua
Les..... Malcom..... so good at what they do..... they keep you rivetted !!!! is still prefer to kick back with a coldie and watch a few hours of Les without the drone shots, camera cars hidden.... just Les.....
I always liked Harry Butler he was my hero when I was 5yrs old. I remember hating and despising The Bush Tucker Man with a vengeance for replacing Harry Butler on tv.
Dude thank you, after reading your comment I looked up Harry Butler and now have a new source of material, I first started with Malcolm Douglas videos then bush tucker man so now I have harry Butler to explore, I'm from Alabama but have always loved Australia and these types shows so thank you again
When the Japanese landed in 1944, they came in a well armed craft disguised as a fishing boat. They were also in search of a refuelling point for submarines operating out of the 'secret' US submarine base in Fremantle. The Japanese knew these submarines had to be refuelling somewhere to make it all the way to Japan and back. Thankfully they didn’t find Exmouth where a barge a was moored off the coast for refuelling submarines during WWII. My father actually refuelled there twice in RN submarines in 1944.
Roughly 20 years ago, I had met a bunch of Americans who were so impressed by Steve Irwin and his show, and was astounded that no one here in Australia had heard of him, it was mostly, I think, we had grown up watching shows like the Bush Tucker Man, so a show like Mr Irwins, was hardly unique here.
It's now the general consensus that the Bradshaw Paintings (now known as the Gwion Gwion paintings) are actually of Indigenous Australian making as they share more similiarties with other art found particulary in Arhnem Land than anywhere else in the world. Apparently Walsh's assumption that they were considered "rubbish" is inaccurate.
Least the bush tyckerman dont spend 11/2 a show how to get out od a bog :) malcom Douglas & others did that a lot like whos going outback to get boged contry vic 70s bit tree bark branches under the old falcon and push fellas were out
Did you ever see "The Late Show"? Mick Molloy, Rob Sitch, Tom Gleisner, Judith Lucy, Jane Kennedy, Santo Cilauro, Tony Martin. Classic Aussie "Champagne Comedy". ABC show.

Still the best australian show ever on tv. Thanks les

I grew up in the cold dark north west of England watching this fella, it captivated me and is the single reason i know reside in Townsville.
That's awesome Craig 😊 id like to go there again. I'm from the gold coast originally and went there as a kid in 88. I really liked what I saw. I must visit that part of the world again

Loved this series from the 80's - 90's.
I recorded several episodes, and this is one of them. Cheers from Canada!

I could listen to Les tell stories all day.. infact I'd love the opportunity... Just not sure I'd like to stay for dinner :)
This so great, loved watching this as a kid. Love from the U.K.
Having lived in WA most off my life I only wish I had done more travel here.A very unique place.

Love Bush Tucker Man! Grew up on this. Love the Perentie 110 too - great vehicle!
16:45 I'd heard that tale of the boab before, but I didn't know that the story was told in both Australia and Madagascar.
Yay, it’s back! One of my favorite shows. Why don’t they air more educational stuff like this instead of all the mindless trash we’ve had to put up with. Very educational!
80’s television is one of a kind

Excellent.
Used to b on Scottish tv on a Sunday night the whole family would crowd Roon telly lol must a been 93 is lol great to c it again
Great show, done before 4WD and adventure shows became a dime-a-dozen.
And none of them stand up to the authenticity and knowledge shared by Les.
A great no bs show 😊
I explored the coast of the Kimberleys in the 90's as watch leader on the STS Leeuwin 2. amazing place. would love to do the Gibb River road.
This man is one of the reasons why I decided to leave Denmark and do a lap of the most beautiful country on earth
I like how he just presents the facts. He is not trying to make a reality show.

Les lived in our area for a few years.. he told me he hadn't seen an episode of Bush Tucker Man..

I really appreciate the ABC Australia for taking a risk and hiring the composer from Final Fantasy III for this soundtrack.
dude has so much space on table , he had to nail a tree for his toothbrush , very smart , very smart

Shout-out to the Kalumburu Mob.
Well what use lends a watch in the middle of bush?
You can start a fire with the glass
I wonder what all the old vehicles at the airfield look like these days.
Straya Mate Call Him Koala Bear Grills 👍
At around 1745 on the video what is with the towers of square rocks. Like they were placed there
Too true
How old is this show? Thanks never heard of this guy before.

Watching him cross the river wait what about crocs and then he mentions it
"Great Southern Land,",,,Iva Davies.
When I see Bradshaw paintings PNG people come to mind, funny enough there art is pretty similar too
Now thats a show 👍, real Australia not Sydney or Melbourne.

Better than the rubbish served up now.

Years and years ago,,,
Continental drift when Australia was connected to Africa.
2 cans per day perhaps
The only good thing that ever came out of the ABC!
Did you ever see "The Late Show"? Mick Molloy, Rob Sitch, Tom Gleisner, Judith Lucy, Jane Kennedy, Santo Cilauro, Tony Martin. Classic Aussie "Champagne Comedy". ABC show.
Baobab tree
Some of the face paintings look like aliens, would really like to know why.
What if you have really skinny or really fat fingers? You would be in trouble, wouldnt you... (LOL)
I prefer the Viz comic version of the character…..aptly named Bush *ucker man 🤣
Oh look abc and the comments aren't disabled 😂
Old Quality is better.
Hello I commuted first
