I am so glad I don't have to use the sand filter to vacuum pool any more. The sand would get it the pool, ugh. The bigger hose has great suction but soaked up a lot of water. THANK YOU for posting. I truly hope I remember this when I open pool next summer...got write it down.

Sorry, I was on a camping trip and no cell signal. You can add a flocculant like this ( amzn.to/3MeJ5aG ). This will make the small particles to stick together making it heavier and settle on the floor. This will make it easier for you to vacuum it up without stirring much of it back into the water. Hope this helps.
Yah, I finally got something to work. I just used my vacuum like the one you showed at the beginning but taped a tip of a water bottle to the end where it normally pushed debris into a nylon bag and hooked the siphon hose to that end of that and this method seemed to siphon the debris the best.
I like this idea. Those water jet pool vacuums can be modified to do a similar thing though. Last year I attached a pool hose to the output portion of one of those with duct tape and created a siphon and used the vacuum that way and without the water hose connected. It worked great and the bristles of the brush would disturb the particulates on the bottom just enough for them to loosen up and go into the siphon
Thanks for sharing. That is a nice trick and since the jet pool vacuum can be attached into the pole directly, you don't need to tape the hose into the pole anymore. Now I need to look for my old Jet vacuum and modify it so it's easier to install and remove the hose and the pole.
@@diymanual it came back but not as bad. Mine looks like dirt that settles in the seams. It just turns to dust when touched. I will continue to suck it up with the hose
I use that technique to siphon water out from the top of the pool cover after the snow melt down. I tried to do the same with dead algae but it didn’t work, now I am going to make something similar and I am sure that will work. You save it’s of time and chemicals
I used the same pump as vacuum just close one of the vacuum holes and attach a hose to the other one and now you have vacuum and now the filter is catching everything plus it does give you really good suction. Once finished just clean the filter and your good to go
You are welcome. I will have more pool video once I setup our replacement pool. We upgraded to a larger pool as my kids have outgrown the one in this video.
Nice idea , we sort of do the same thing butt with a pump instead of siphoning , the water we send to a juju tank (spare tank and wait maybe 2 days for the dirty water to settle in the tank and then we use the trusty garden hose to siphon the clean water back into the pool).
He was probably talking about a transfer pump something like this amzn.to/3JWGvoN or if you want the cheaper version you can get one that attaches to a drill like this amzn.to/3DaV30g
to make it perfect and lot faster i think a larger hose + larger container + cut the edge on the side facing you about 1/4 inch that way when you pull towards you it doesnt disturb or push the fine material all over..
I have been fighting with this problem for a month now i cant wait to try this and at least i dont have to spend any more money!! My money pit pool i call it
How to up keep the hose attached to the plastic container, I see u cut a hole to insert the hose but how do u keep the hose from slipping out of container
Just cut the hole big enough to fit the thread part of the hose. I actually have to thread it to go in. Also, make sure to use a medium or heavy duty hose. A light duty hose will simply kink and fold.
Awesome! 👏😊 I tried doing this, but my hose stopped siphoning, so that’s a great idea to put it next to the jet. Also, I love the idea of putting a plastic cap on the front. Thx!
As long as the hose is underwater and no kink in the hose you should be good. Just move the container slowly and when you have to lift it up let it stay in the floor first for a few second before lifting the container. It is useful to use a clear container so that you can see if the water inside the container is already clean before moving it.
I usually cut the pump but I did it both ways. Just avoid moving the container too fast to prevent the rest of the algae's from being distributed back into the water.
Just an update on the vacuum rig!!! Wow!! Just WOW!!! YOU ARE A FREAKING GENIUS!!!! I had alot more sediment than you did so it has taken me a few times but tomorrow should complete the job...I just want yall to know this has powerful suction when you test it with your finger...I was super happy with money I didn't have to spend and results were fantastic...like I said you are My HERO..MY HERO IS A FREAKUBG GENIUS!!! BLESS YOU
@@danitatutt7845 The largest I used is an 8 oz. cool whip container. I think the larger and taller container will have less suction and will waste more water. You want the water to get sucked into the hose right away so you can keep moving.
Im going to try this with my aquafish because i think the cotton mesh filter (aquarium style) will capture the algae...i just need to keep it in place long enough!
@@diymanual yes, it does not work sadly.. It does not vacuum to waste and just spews brown turbulent ick into the water...vaccuum to waste is the only solution
Would this work if my pump isn’t working so I don’t have an outlet to efficiently fill the hose? I’m thinking it should still have some effect if I submerge the hose and get the air out before taking one end out of the pool?
You are correct, as long as you can fill the hose with water either by submerging both end or filling it with water with cup or attaching it into a spigot or whatever ways you can think of to start the siphoning action.
any length that will allow you to reach all the area of your pool and place the other end lower than your pool floor. The bigger diameter of the hose the better but it will suck more water out. Just make sure you use a heavy duty hose so that it will hold it shape and not fold or kink. Good luck.
I been doing this for years but I just cut the end of the hose so it is cut so it lays flat on the bottom but first I take a shop brumb and sweep every thing to the bottom let it settle then all I have to suck up is the deep part it all is in the deep part it only looses a little water because I sweep it to the bottom of the deep part.
I wish I could put a picture of our pool on here we have a 28 foot Doughboy I came up the idea of built in steps it took a little time because we had to do one step at a time the entire outer part is concrete the sand in the middle after the concert dried then the step is covered with strofoam taped with duck tape then the same process for the second step after that dries same thing, then dropped the liner in filled it the water goes over the steps now we have built in steps!
You mean just vacuum the water instead of using gravity? For me... 1. Shop Vac will vacuum water faster so you will need to empty out your vacuum multiple times. 2. Priming hose using the return will only take about 30 seconds. Not sure how long will it take to take the vacuum out of the storage, plug it in and set it up then cleaning it up after. 3. Not everyone will have a shop vac. But anyway, I am just sharing the idea and you can use it as is or modify it depending on your need or preference. There is another comment here that says he use similar technique but instead of letting the water go to waste, he uses a pump to transfer the water to a large container then put most of the water back into the pool once the dirt settles to the bottom. Thanks for sharing your idea. Others might find it better in their situation.
Sure. 1. Make sure that you are using a heavy duty hose so there is no kink that will stop or restrict the suction. Light duty or flex hose will never work on this. Use at least a medium duty or heavy duty hose. 2. Make sure there is no air gap inside the hose. You can do by lifting the suction end of the hose up and watch the water come out. Once water is flowing freely for at least 30 seconds put it back into the pool and throw the other end to the floor. Make sure that the hose in your pool is always higher than the end where the water flows out. So if the floor of your pool is the same height as the other end of the hose, you will have a hard time keeping continuous flow. You can use a taller container so that you know that the end in the pool is a few inches higher than the other end or extend your hose until you can move it into a lower spot. 3. If you are close to a tap water outlet, you can use it to fill the hose with water. I do this a lot since when draining water from the pool cover after a rain. Hope this helps.
@@diymanual I figured it last night but it was late so I was able to get a bunch out today but the water got cloudy so I guess I'll be back at it tomorrow after work 😃 thank you though it definitely worked. I did like one of the posts mentioned and used my other hose to add the water and that's how I got it to start suctioning 👍👍
@@jenniferwilliams2676 you will probably need to do 2 or 3 passes. Make sure to move slowly so you not disturb the dead algaes on the floor or they will get mixed into the water again. When you lift up the container, you want to put it back down to a spot that is already clean then move it slowly onto the spots that you wanted to clean. Also, you can swirl the water around after your next pass creating like a tornado effect. The next day you will see most of the dead algae in one place towards the center. Making it easier to remove the rest.
Not sure how it would work? What happens to the dirty water? It gets pumped out the other side However, you did mention that if the vacuum stops, you need to put water back in Wouldn't that make a lot of the dead algae return into the pool at the container end? 🤔 Wondering Thanks 😊
When the vacuum stops, simply redo the siphoning procedure 2:35. You can't return the dirty water back in as it already went to waste. Thanks for watching.
I have not tried a bigger container. But I believe you can go a little bigger like the tub of a cool whip. Anything bigger will probably reduce the effectiveness because the garden hose can only suck so much water. If you are talking about a larger hose then yes it will make it faster but you will be wasting more water.
Damn, I was planning all sorts of crazy stuff for getting the algae out of my pool, including buying a pump with a four way valve….great video!! Is that an algae control thing on the side of your pool? If so, do you recommend?
Are you talking about the water inlet where I put the hose in? That is the chemconnect that bestway included in the package. It's a chlorine dispenser. You can use it to control the amount of chlorine to release into the water and is supposed to help the water get cleaner. This will replace the chlorine dispenser floating in your pool. You will need a 1 inch tablet for this. Below is my Amazon Affiliate link if you are interested. amzn.to/3V6n8j0 Here's another youtube video I made on how to load tablet on chemconnect. ua-cam.com/video/_Vf4YPaCnv4/v-deo.html Hope this helps.
You could also try using some hot glue, or even a bit of silicone that you let dry. Carefully cut the hole so it just fits on the hose bib. You can even use some duct tape to keep the cup from slipping up the hose.
Okay I'm confused you put the hose out of the pool it looks like you just dumping the water out of your pool is that what's happening? I don't get it help looks like you missed a step or that's exactly what you're doing taking the water out of the pool from the bottom with the algae is that what's going on?
Yes. You vacuum to waste. Larger pool filters have an option to vacuum to waste but it does waste a lot of water. For most above ground pool owner, this is something we can use to clear your above ground pool of dead algae's.
I doubt it because it uses gravity to suck water out. Unless you can place the other end lower than the pool floor. Or you can use a transfer pump like this amzn.to/46MeF9d to suck the water out without needing gravity.
Thank You. I used a suction with wheels from Kirby vacuum I had laying around along with a handle from an old mop and duck tape. Works like a dream. The only thing I would recommend is to have a water hose on to refill pool as you vacuum.
It will if you can place the other end of the hose in a lower ground than your pool floor. It works with gravity so the other end will need to be lower than your pool floor. Or you can use a transfer pump like this. amzn.to/3xqRsfy If you have a vacuum and a paper or DE filter, you can use a flock amzn.to/3L5kzIn to vacuum it. If you have or if you can do a vacuum to waste you can do that also. Hope this help.
You mean, just suction the dead algae to filter instead of letting the water go to waste? Your filter will get clogged easily and it could burn your pump if it builds too much pressure. You don't really want this going into your filter. Now, if you have a filter that lets you filter to waste then that will work but then you will be wasting a lot more water doing it this way as your filter can pump hundreds to thousands of gallon per hour compare to gravity suction.
@diymanual no I have a few filter I was and clean out. I was just thinking it would be easy to just hook it to the suction side also. Thanks for the reply!
One end goes into a plastic container to suck the dead algae from the pool and the other simply goes to ground. You don't connect it to filter or anything.
Think of the hose as a very long siphon. Just like siphoning dirty water/substrate in an aquarium. Once you get it flowing (from tank to ground) you just move the hose about sucking out any debris.
Sorry, I said it wrong. You put it in the inlet. The side where the water goes back into the pool. If that doesn't work, you can also start it with the water faucet. The goal here is to fill the hose with water. Also, make sure that your hose does not have any fold or kink and do not use the as seen on TV flex or stretchable hoses. There should be continuous water flow for it to work so if you have any fold or air gap inside the hose it will stop the siphoning action. Hope this helps.
I am new pool owner and my water remaiy so. ,so,cloudy i would like to try your way to get all the very tiny debris in my water out can you explain what i have to do again I'm confused one end gh goes in water does other end go to water on ground while i vaccine with gh and telescopic pole attached?
Do you just have cloudy water or do you have dead algae at the floor of your pool? If you have dust and dead algae at the bottom of the pool you can use this method. If you have cloudy water, you may have an algae bloom or a high PH issue. You can check this list of videos and see which one fits your need. ua-cam.com/play/PL_2zbWlUD8pnBmQEwh16YFeY-h2NW2s4G.html
To avoid algae problem you will need to keep the chlorine level above 1 ppm. For the cover, I used a large tarp in this pool. My new pool comes with the fitted black vinyl cover. The difference that I noticed is that the fitted black vinyl cover also serve as a good solar heater because the material and color can absorb the sun better than a tarp.
@@jays.8187 Are you talking about something like this? amzn.to/3DAlYD4 I think they are good option as well if you can find the right size for your pool or you can find something a little bigger and cut to size.

Yes. It is easy. Just make sure you use a medium or heavy duty hose that won't kink. Good Luck and share with us how it works for you.
Im bout to try this thank you, I’ll come back and let yall know how it went
That sounds awesome! I can't wait to hear how it goes. Good luck!
Cool trick i'm gonna try it on my pool today Thanks so much for the tip!
Let us know how it work out for you or if you have any question.
I can't wait to try this! This is exactly what I've been needing 🎉
Let us know how it worked for you or if you have other question. Thanks for watching.
@@diymanual 4:55 could you explain this in detail. I have this type of water vacuum sounds easier to set up. Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing this tip!!! Worked like a charm!!! WooHoo!!!
Awesome to hear it worked for you! Keep up the great work and enjoy the results!
THANK YOU! Great video & Great idea! I'm about to try it out! 😊
You are so welcome!
Thank You!!! I have no way to backwash and this is my solution! I did it once and we will see how much comes back. Hopefully not much.
I'm happy to help.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this! I used a sump pump and it worked but something about electric and water in the same sentence was scary. I know now a better way.
Awesome to hear! Thanks for watching!
This actually worked!! thank you sooo much!!
You're welcome!
I used the same pump as vacuum just close one of the vacuum holes and attach a hose to the other one and now you have vacuum and now the filter is catching everything plus it does give you really good suction. Once finished just clean the filter and your good to go
Great tip. Thanks for sharing.
Finally! A new idea! Thanks!
That is a good idea. No water wasted. You can also use the dirty water to water the plants.
What's the name of the pump? Gotta clean my pool this week. Thanks
Thank you for sharing your idea.
Can you explain what I am hooking garden hose too and what is the setting I will use filter to waste?
One end of garden hose goes into the plastic tub to suck the dead algae from the pool and the other simply goes to the ground.
I have been fighting with this problem for a month now i cant wait to try this and at least i dont have to spend any more money!! My money pit pool i call it
I appreciate your support and enthusiasm! It's comments like yours that keep me motivated to share helpful content.
It totally worked!!
Thank you so much for this! This gives me hope that I can actually get it clean. 😂
Cleaning might not be fun, but the results are definitely worth it!
I was thinking about doing this to my pool now I know it works
Awesome! Just make sure you use a non-kink or heavy duty hose. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
This was ingenious!!! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!!
Gonna use this method to get some dust out of the bottom of my hot tub!
That's a great idea! Let me know how it works out for you.
Yes I’m going to give this a try I have baby powder at the bottom from assembly that I can’t get out drives me crazy but this just might work. Ty
Cool. Let us know how it worked out for you.

I tried doing this, but my hose stopped siphoning, so that’s a great idea to put it next to the jet. Also, I love the idea of putting a plastic cap on the front. Thx!

I tried this and it worked very well, except I cut a 2 liter bottle in half and screwed it in to the end of the hose
Thanks for that tip that is a good idea.
Yes, i did that as well.
How do you empty the container without loosing suction or allowing the algae to escape back into the pool?
As long as the hose is underwater and no kink in the hose you should be good. Just move the container slowly and when you have to lift it up let it stay in the floor first for a few second before lifting the container. It is useful to use a clear container so that you can see if the water inside the container is already clean before moving it.
Definitely works great idea man 👍🏾
Thank you for the feedback, glad you found it helpful!
Do you cut off the pump while during this process or leave it running
I usually cut the pump but I did it both ways. Just avoid moving the container too fast to prevent the rest of the algae's from being distributed back into the water.
Thanks for this video.. it worked like a charm
Thank you for watching and giving it a try! Your support means the world to me.

Does it matter what size container you use?
@@danitatutt7845 The largest I used is an 8 oz. cool whip container. I think the larger and taller container will have less suction and will waste more water. You want the water to get sucked into the hose right away so you can keep moving.
Im going to try this with my aquafish because i think the cotton mesh filter (aquarium style) will capture the algae...i just need to keep it in place long enough!
@@womanatwellworshiptheFather Thanks for the comments. Please let me know how it goes, It will be nice if it works so you don't lose any water.
@@diymanual i will let you know tomorrow
@@womanatwellworshiptheFather ok. Will wait for the result. Thanks.
Did you get the chance to try the aquafish vacuum/
@@diymanual yes, it does not work sadly..
It does not vacuum to waste and just spews brown turbulent ick into the water...vaccuum to waste is the only solution
Would this work if my pump isn’t working so I don’t have an outlet to efficiently fill the hose? I’m thinking it should still have some effect if I submerge the hose and get the air out before taking one end out of the pool?
You are correct, as long as you can fill the hose with water either by submerging both end or filling it with water with cup or attaching it into a spigot or whatever ways you can think of to start the siphoning action.
I'm going to get a small hose right now!!!!
Make sure that you get a medium or heavy duty hose or kink free hose. Light duty hose will kink and stop the flow of water.
Thank you!! You saved the day!
Your words mean a lot, thank you for your support!
What length of hose is best for the most suction? Recommendations?
any length that will allow you to reach all the area of your pool and place the other end lower than your pool floor. The bigger diameter of the hose the better but it will suck more water out. Just make sure you use a heavy duty hose so that it will hold it shape and not fold or kink. Good luck.
Awesome life hack (pool hack? haha). Thank you!
You bet!
Thanks for sharing. The problem with above ground pool is there is no deep part.
Sounds interesting. I wish I could see it.
Wjy not hook a shop vac to the other end the throw the hose on the groud.? That would make it quicker.
Wow genius, thank you!
You're welcome!
It works!!! Holy ctap! Ty so much
That's awesome to hear! So happy it worked for you!
Hi, do you have any tips to get the suction to start working? Thank you
Sure.
@@diymanual Thank you, that's my plan. I can already see the difference 👏👏👏👏
Not sure how it would work?
What happens to the dirty water?
It gets pumped out the other side
However, you did mention that if the vacuum stops, you need to put water back in
Wouldn't that make a lot of the dead algae return into the pool at the container end? 🤔
Wondering
Thanks 😊
When the vacuum stops, simply redo the siphoning procedure 2:35. You can't return the dirty water back in as it already went to waste. Thanks for watching.
If use bigger tube or double it, is it better?
I have not tried a bigger container. But I believe you can go a little bigger like the tub of a cool whip. Anything bigger will probably reduce the effectiveness because the garden hose can only suck so much water. If you are talking about a larger hose then yes it will make it faster but you will be wasting more water.
this is exactly what i was looking for thank you!!!!!
Cool. Hope it worked for you. Let us know.

Here's another youtube video I made on how to load tablet on chemconnect.

Hope this helps.
How do you attach the clear bowl to the hose so that it doesn't ride up the hose? Is it just that hose clamp?
Just create a hole small enough so that it fits the threaded area of your hose. I actually have to semi-thread it to the end of the hose.
You could also try using some hot glue, or even a bit of silicone that you let dry. Carefully cut the hole so it just fits on the hose bib. You can even use some duct tape to keep the cup from slipping up the hose.
Those are good ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Will it work in an inground pool?
I doubt it because it uses gravity to suck water out. Unless you can place the other end lower than the pool floor. Or you can use a transfer pump like this amzn.to/46MeF9d to suck the water out without needing gravity.
Thank You. I used a suction with wheels from Kirby vacuum I had laying around along with a handle from an old mop and duck tape. Works like a dream. The only thing I would recommend is to have a water hose on to refill pool as you vacuum.
Thanks for the input.
No adding water at the same time will disturb rubbish more
Worked great!
Great to hear!
Can you do this in a in ground pool? And also can you use a pool vacuum hose?
It will if you can place the other end of the hose in a lower ground than your pool floor. It works with gravity so the other end will need to be lower than your pool floor. Or you can use a transfer pump like this. amzn.to/3xqRsfy
If you have a vacuum and a paper or DE filter, you can use a flock amzn.to/3L5kzIn to vacuum it. If you have or if you can do a vacuum to waste you can do that also.
Hope this help.
What if you just hooked up the garden hose to where the pull sucks in the water?
You mean, just suction the dead algae to filter instead of letting the water go to waste? Your filter will get clogged easily and it could burn your pump if it builds too much pressure. You don't really want this going into your filter.
Now, if you have a filter that lets you filter to waste then that will work but then you will be wasting a lot more water doing it this way as your filter can pump hundreds to thousands of gallon per hour compare to gravity suction.
@diymanual no I have a few filter I was and clean out. I was just thinking it would be easy to just hook it to the suction side also. Thanks for the reply!
@@mlacher100 You are welcome.
This is amazing!! Thank you!!😂
Glad you liked it!!
where did you get that debris bag?
Are you talking about the black bag attached to my garden hose vacuum? I just staple some face mask together to create the bag.😅
What do you hook the other end of hose to and on what setting do you use
One end goes into a plastic container to suck the dead algae from the pool and the other simply goes to ground. You don't connect it to filter or anything.
Think of the hose as a very long siphon. Just like siphoning dirty water/substrate in an aquarium. Once you get it flowing (from tank to ground) you just move the hose about sucking out any debris.
Nice video! Is there a tool that you recommend to use to brush the side of the pool?
There are pool brush like this: amzn.to/4548pIs
But I use the brush I use for car wash: amzn.to/3IeAXFo
Thanks for watching.
Genius man ! Thx!!!
You're welcome and thanks for watching.
For some reason it wouldn't work for me when putting other end of hose at the water outlet
Thank you for this!
No problem! Happy to help out.
What is that on your water output (eyeball)?
It's the chemconnect.
Way cool Thankyou!

Which type of pool cover do you use in order to avoid this problem? Just a large tarp? Or a fitted cover? I’m not sure what to buy.
@@diymanual thank you for the quick response! What do you think about the bubble wrap covers that supposedly heat the pool while it covers it?
