Is there another way to stay in touch? I also live in Florida and I would like to ask you a few questions related to raising and obtaining different types of finches in Florida.
    Gracias!

I’m expecting my owl finch chicks to hatch this week, I went and bought a bunch of closed bands ( plastic) but they’re open and they came with a tool ( little plier looking ) that allows you to open it partially and it will bounce back once the baby chick’s foot is inside. In this case do you think I should wait and do not disturb them until they’re fledging? ( since the bands can open and close ). They freak out every time I go near their nest

Yes I would wait till they fledge. Usually owl finches are good parents and domt have a bad tendency to toss but there are a few that do so try to stay away just get close to feed and give them privacy once the chicks fledge you can catch them and band them. No rush with split bands you can do it anytime. Good luck with them!

Question, size D? What is the MM, I need to ban my finch babies to seperate them from older birds.

I use NFSS bands and Size “D” is (2.7mm) - they are used for Blue-faced/Peals Parrot Finches, Lady Gouldian Finch (American), Chestnut-breasted & most smaller mannikins, most other Parrot finches, Pictorella Finch, Pintailed Nonpareil, Yellow-rumped Finch, Zebra Finch (American), Society Finch (American)
