As an Aston Villa fan I have got more loyalty to Tyrone Ming’s than Steven Gerrard. Ming’s has been the best ambassador for the club over the last few years and proved himself.
Gerrard has yet to prove himself at Villa. We have won two in 12 games and he is getting away with it in media because he is Steven Gerrard and a legend.
Anyone else would be under fire by now.
I'm an Aston Villa fan too. I can't argue with you about the off field stuff. He seems like a decent bloke and this is nothing personal. However, it's the on field stuff that I have an issue with. I think he's a mediocre PL defender, at best, who can have absolutely no complaints at being dropped. Diego Carlos was pretty much guaranteed to start at Bournemouth and the only surprise to me was that he started with Konsa ahead of Chambers. I also happen to agree with you about Gerrard. There has been liitle, if any, signs of improvement of you look at those 12 games and Saturday which is concerning. Steven Gerrard is now out of excuses. He's had his pre season and he has had two windows. It's now crap or get off the pot time.

I personally thing Mings needs to improve his game and he knows it but he did handle this like a captain when he got dropped and Gerrard has actually proved he still has alittle maturing as a manager to make comments like that. I actually thing Mings could of saved us on Saturday, particularly to prove a point against his former club. I always want to give a manager a chance but Saturday had that feel of effort the year we got relegated which I do not feel will happen with the quality but still it reminded me of that Garde era. It’s just sad to see one of the best teams we at Villa since MON all under achieve under this style of management. We have the players. I hope Gerrard comes good. UTV mate.
I am a Villa fan too and it shocks me how many fickle fans we have. Allow Gerrard time and stop asking for managers heads! We have been churning managers for the last 10 years and where has that got us? How can Gerrard succeed with poisonous fans like you 2. Wouldn't have loyalty to any players mate especially ones in the modern era you see the problems at United too much player power over there. The manager should be the one you back for everything not any player at the club.

Gerrard signed Carlos and I think there was real interest in Gomez so me Ming's was the cb who was always going to be sacrificed if a decent offer was to come in for Ming's in the next couple of weeks then I think he would be gone.

He means that Mings has to show some fight. He took being stripped of the captaincy like a meek little puppy. Perhaps he's reacted the same way when told he wasn't guaranteed to start.

As manager, SG is perfectly entitled to change captain. That said, the way he has handled it, the comments made at the time and post match Saturday, along with the sarcastic instagram post from Morgan Sanson and his reaction when questioned about Coutinho are probably the things setting alarm bells off with most fans. Tyrone Mings does have a mistake in him too often but his leadership was sorely missed at Bournemouth and personally, John McGinn is not captain material and has been pretty dreadful for a while now. If SG is heading down the ‘I’ll pick my favourites’ road then he’ll be looking for employment before the World Cup. How Buendia is not in the starting XI is beyond me. His treatment of Morgan Sanson is not acceptable either. Poor bloke has never been given a run of 7/8 consecutive starts to bed into the team and show what he has to offer. Preseason results may have been positive but the football was largely awful, disjointed and lacking any real identity or game plan. SG is already under pressure and needs to walk the walk not just talk the talk.
He done this at Rangers, it drove standards, it showed that if you didn’t perform or if you didn’t toe the line then you’re out. I’m the boss, I decide.
The issue isn’t dropping Mings and stripping him of his captaincy…it’s what he has come out with to the press afterwards ‘Mings is still raw and hasn’t really been talking much’ and ‘he needs to look me in the eye if he wants to play again’…that’s the issue here, there’s no need for that, especially considering Gerrard wanted to take the captaincy off him to take him out of the spotlight. When you then consider that Traore, Guilbert, Sanson have been banished to the reserves (not for discipline reasons), and an out of form McGinn has been given the captaincy, and Coutinh whose out of form for months is given unconditional starts ahead of a Buendia who performs better..you have to question his man-management skills. The tactics consist of crosses into the box, and he’s favouring older signings over young signings, why buy courinhk and Diego Carlos? It’s not like Villa are making Europe, why not build a team that will complete in a year or 2..Villa also have one of the best academies in the country, so it’s even more shocking the direction he’s going in. Gerrard is having a stinker at Villa, and will be sacked in a few weeks..I’m seeing all this as a gooner, I wonder what Villa fans think

Gerrard’s Liverpool were coming 5th behind Everton…getting regularly beat by Arsenal…unbeaten for almost a decade at Liverpool. It would have been fine if Gerrard hadn’t gone and thrown Mings( who has certainly done more for the club than Gerrard has) under the bus like he did. That’s what’s caused the media attention and a lot of discontent among the villa fanbase

Classic talksport creating stories out of nothing - this has to be the biggest overreaction to losing the opening game and ofc everyone is pointing to mings losing the captaincy as one of the prime reasons. Any villa fan that seriously thinks were going to push for Europe and jump from 14th to 7th in the space of a season all because of a couple of early clever signings in the transfer window is a fool. It's going to take 2 or 3 seasons at least to get to that position under gerrard who needs a real could chance and a couple more transfer windows to achieve that.

Mings defo needs to improve his personal game, he's got worse year on year since we've been back in the Prem. Southgate left him out of recent England squads because of this, but Gerrard needs to sort the squad out ASAP, we were getting slightly better results and performances under DS, although we still were doing badly, but he had less depth in the squad.

Mings doesn't need a kicking to make him play better, he needs a pat on the back and reassurance. Gerrard is hurting him, not helping him. We saw how fragile Mings is from the Euros.
Watch the collapse against Man City last season and there's a good enough reason for Gerrard's current state of mind. His boyhood club lost the league in those few minutes. He would have been a hero for all time. Stories would have been written, documentaries made etc etc.....The captain who never won the league, went on to win the league for Liverpool as a manager of another team. You wouldn't see it in Roy of the Rovers. And Mings had a brain snap, trying to be the hero for that hero and it went gone. Saying that though I think Gerrard's subs and change in formation were the real reasons for that loss...he should have gone for another goal on the break and killed the game off. Hindsight is a terrible thing.

Martinez for me should of been our captain. I feel something has happened behind closed doors, he has had a free ride so far being at villa, he makes more mistakes than most defenders, that more than likely lead to a goal. Ming's just gets the ball and lumps it up the pitch. We should be aiming for better calibre of players
He also throws himself in front of everything. Partnered with a more nuanced player like Carlos - who can play the ball as well as well as being a wall - can only be a good thing. TM organises the defence well - he may make mistakes, but what defenders don't? The ones we had on the pitch on Saturday certainly did.

@@danielhughes7359 Fingers crossed. Mings and Carlos the strongest CB pairing at the club in my mind, shortly followed by Chambers - Konsa seems well off it at the minute. Saw someone posit that perhaps the reason for partnering Carlos with Konsa could be the fact that Ezri speaks a bit of Portuguese, but not sure if there's anything to it.
Mings is clearly leaking things. Gerrard isn’t just spouting stuff out.. he’s being asked about it. Mings has made this what it is. I’d sell him.
Mings is a great guy but an awful defender. Great in the Championship where his size allows him to dominate but his actual defensive abiliities have repeatedly shown to be lacking in the Prem. Villa were never going to progress with him slipping up at the back repeatedly. He always has a glaring mistake in him every game he plays. He is directly involved in a very high percentage of Villa's conceeding soft/stupid goals continuously. With Diego Carlos purchased for over 30m and sure to play a new on pitch Capt had to be installed. The media is now calling this mismanagement!?! . While I don't believe Gerrard is doing a great job in terms of a) improving individual players or b) instilling a team style/identity - I do think in the long run he is correct to take Mings out of the team and therefore replace him as capt. The media seem to easily forget Ming's defensive frailties and determined to make up a story/create a tension where there is none. UTV
100% it's personal his performances towards the end of last season weren't any worse than any others, it speaks volumes he hasn't even been spoken about falling out with other managers or coaches.
Ming's hasn't been playing well enough for a while now and Gerrard must have seen something in training to make that decision, this could be the kick up the backside he needs.
While I agree and he’s prone to a mistake but if you actually watched Konsa last season he was putting mings into trouble. Konsa seems to have lost confidence after not getting in England squad and he’s scared of playing with the ball. He always panics and passes it on. Just watch Konsa closely.
How is it that mings is getting benched? His form has been solid and doesn’t deserve to be treated like this
I’ve no huge issue with Mings losing the captaincy, by McGinn should have been chosen as Villa’s new captain let alone a mainstay in the starting 11.

SG is a born 'winner' and hates to lose. So to me, if he thinks a player is not pulling his weight, he has the right, to voice. Obviously it could have done better. But tempers get frayed, sometimes. We're human beings.
