It all depends who you hire...get what you pay for, if you are expecting expert quality dont go for fame of a tv show If you hire someone you are paying for how they do it, not how you want them to do it, no matter what you try. "I could do better myself" is my favorite....like why did you hire me then?
@@jgregg7100 the thing is this quote "I could do better myself" can happen because the work is so sub-par that an amateur could've done as well as the supposed professional they payed to do it. this is not a good thing if customers can say this so often, granted some people are just hard to please but if enough people have said this then it's probably true to an extent.
@@Unpopularity No its not. As someone who has worked for HGTV as a contractor. They got what they paid for sorry not sorry. This is also why I haven't worked with them again. You will NOT get 300,000 in quality work for 200, 000 period!
@@Unpopularity It does seem like they are looking for 100 perfection which does not exist no matter how much you pay. uneven grout lines are normal, as are base boards that may be off by a millimeter. The only thing that looked problematic to me is the French doors that do not close as well as the electrical. That's a one day correction.

As a general contractor, these complaints make my blood boil. Nobody should pay 100% up front, we ask for 50% max with progress payments along the way. We always make sure that things are up to code and that any punch list items or major changes are taken care of to the customer's liking before accepting final payment AND we offer a warranty on any installed materials. Our name was built on quality and trust, not just making things look "pretty"...
As a homeowner I think it is a joke for you to receive $1 up front. I know of two individuals who paid up front and the contractor never showed up and they had to sue and still haven't seen one dollar paid. Would you take your car to a mechanic and pay up front before the work is done? Can you place a homeowners lien if you don't get paid? ANY MONEY UP FRONT IS BULLSHIT! Complete 25% of the work and get paid 25% then move on to 50% 75% and full payment.
@@ExtrovertedCenobite Respectfully, while I have heard of contractors doing just that, we also have a business to run and paying out of pocket for every material and every labor hour and hoping the customer pays just isn't something that leads to a successful business. While we can put a lien on the property it just becomes another ignored debt by the customer. We ask for half up front on a $60,000 job so that we can order materials and make sure that the customer is fully committed. I see where you come from, but it's just not a good way to run a construction business. We work hard to keep our reputation and to dispell the notion that contractors are never to be trusted. For every shady and scummy contractor there are 3 more honest and trustworthy individuals. Best of luck on all of your future renovations👍🏻🙏🏻
@@ProductionsDRM I understand your point but keep in mind that I know of two individuals that paid up front and never saw the contractor again. Keep in mind that if your vehicle needed a engine replacement at a cost of $10,000, and the cost of parts are $5,000, the mechanic would pay the costs up front and then gets paid when you pick up the vehicle. Also, if parts are an issue, that is a simple solution, go to home depot order all the parts have the homeowner pay the bill and have the equipment shipped to his house and then you get paid in 25% increments once each quarter is completed. I am having my home worked on as we speak with a contractor doing work, replacing all floors to tile, enlarging rooms, remodeling kitchen and paint the house, I received 4 estimates ranging from 30% up front to 100% up front and I chose the contractor that got paid nothing up front. I paid for all materials and have made two payments so far at 25% each. Never again would I give someone money before they have lifted a finger!
As an owner of a very small residential remodeling company, there isn’t a chance in hell I would start a job with no money down. You’re just asking to get screwed over. Like someone else said, you can put a lien on a house and what? Wait several years, if ever, to get your money? If I start a kitchen with $10k in cabinets upfront, and you as a homeowner decide for whatever reason you don’t want to go through with the job, I’m not losing $10k on your cabinets. Do your homework, look at reviews, get references.
I was never under the impression that the show paid for anything. They always have a budget and have to request more money if there are problems that come up. Why would you think the show paid?

They saw it for sure, but they know they aren't the ones to be worried about it. They probably were thinking of the next episode they make at the time they did the presentation of this home. They got the time to beat for the show to roll smoothly. The end result after the family moved in is their least concern.
I'm a local handyman in Los Angeles and a similar show for buzz feed try to hire me to do jobs for them for remodeling house and right away I realize they wanted to do things ASAP with cheap materials. I suggested and point it out certain things so that it will be done right and they said No we want quick and cheap doesn't have to be perfect. I didn't take the job.
The celebs have nothing to do with it. Shoddy contractors who are paid have no incentive to fix things. I hope they get a bad rep in the area. A good contractor cares and take pride in the detail finish work.
The Scott brothers should have graciously stepped forward and made sure this situation was made right! It’s their show....their REPUTATION on the line. It speaks volumes about them!!!
If they step forward they admit fault, its cheaper for them to just bury it and pretend it never happened thats why you're just now hearing about it when it happened in 2018
That's exactly what they do all of these remodel shows they pocket the difference they put in cheap cheap cheap materials fixtures that they say cost a lot of money really don't and your home is never truly completed
If you’re being sued or get into trouble with the law in any way, you must always have your lawyer involved. Even if you’re 100% innocent. Never do, say, or especially sign anything without your lawyer. This way a false narrative can’t be spun about you. People tend to think getting a lawyer makes you look guilty when in reality it’s just the correct way to go about things.
I watched Property Brothers with my contractor relatives and they were screaming the whole time about how they weren’t fixing the house properly so this doesn’t shock me
My husband and I watched them a few times. Neither of us are builders but we did a LOT of our own work on our home that was over 100 years old.....and WE yelled about the work they were doing. We never watched the show again 🤷
Like the fireman who green screens himself into the shows I'm going to need a real contractor to do the same. Like a green screen reaction and correction video.
My mother loves these shows. My father, who was a contractor for over 10 years (changed career fields) does not. Makes for interesting moments as he criticizes everything these shows do.
True,so stupid of them, i like watching their show but i dont trust because its for show..i think they purposely did join to extort money from that Property brothers if not extort money they just want publicity
People don't realize that they have to pay to be on the show....I was called to be on the show as owner of America wholesale flooring.I asked how much are you going to pay me they said we won't pay you but you can give us 5000 in free flooring and your workers can wear there company shirts and have a credit at the end of show....I believe they scam people because of there notoriety.
Well part of the challenge is keeping things within their homeowner's budget, so it's pretty obvious they're paying for the services. It's like any contracting situation, but just filmed for entertainment and w famous designers. What's not clear is the way they source the materials and contractors. My question now is, if they're getting materials from businesses like yours for free, what's the homeowner's money going to???
If they wanted free products, and worked from your business..plus 5grand, where is all the home owners money going??! Cause this couple was 193grand so if every other business paid at least 5grand they walked away with A LOT of money!!
I'm just absolutely floored that the homeowner pays for the work. That's a heck of a business.. Making video's that earn millions and not even having to pay for the basis of the show.
If the contractor had to cut costs with materials and time then he should have told the couple up front what they wanted was not realistic for the budget they had and let them redesign so they could have what was realistic for their budget for a high stranded.
This is horrible. The property brothers and the production group should be held accountable. Now that they are trying to dismiss, says that they don’t want to make things right after screwing over their customers for almost $200K. The world today smh 🤦♂️

I could never leave my money and my house at the mercy of celebrities. One: TV shows only feature the good sides, two: celebrities only care about a constant flow of money into their wallets. Three: If a celebrity wants a lawyer just so he would respond, already shows that they are trying to cover something up, without losing their money.
Kathi, that’s not how it works. The brothers are seen as host of the show and not actual builders. You can’t sue someone who didn’t do or supervise the work. Just because someone is worth “millions” doesn’t mean they should foot the bill.

Property brothers need to be held accountable. This is the age of accountability. It looks like the property brothers don’t oversee their contractors work.
They are not contractors themselves. They are paid actors hired by the production company to be the public face of the show. While they do have a real estate and construction background they are not the agent of record nor the contractor of record for the properties appearing on the show. This means that they cannot be sued for incompetence. Only the show's producers and the contractors can be.
Bought a house recently and watched it get build from ground up. There is no way for the boss to watch every detail of the builders. It will take too much time and they have other things to work on as well. This is the norm. They allowed me to come and go as I please which I took full advantage of since I know no one can properly supervise them 100% . By the end there were a few nicks that needs fixing, which is normal and you can always tell them to come back at NO COST to fix up. All they had to do with just take advantage of the first month by just bossing and complaining to them to come and fix it. Take every detail even if you have to be picky and they will touch up with no cost!
At first you think. Man they are whining about really little stuff. Then you think hey. If I spent 195k for a REMODEL not even a new build but a REMODEL. Everything should be 100% perfect
If this couple paid the same amount of $$$ to this show as they would anyway for this exact same remodeling, then why get a Reality Show involved at all ? The simple answer is that they wanted that 15 minutes of Fame that Andy Warhol promised everyone. SO, IMO, the real problem here is the Narcissism of this couple. Their Narcissistic need to become Media Stars overrode their Common Sense. Your home is not only the MOST Expensive asset that you own. It is also the MOST Personal asset too. They compromised the nest where they planned to create a family with their Selfish Desire For FAME !!! These Dummies got what they deserved, as far as I'm concerned.
I said the same thinking they got a FREE REMODEL or. But to spend $200k. For a remodel. I'm in wrong business that's a joke profit of 170k material not that bad that's insane
Agreed. She does seem like a whiney bitch and you can tell the husband is fed up listening to her. But yeah, no excuses for the shit work. Its Karen vs a legally protected TV network.
No. I never think homeowners are "whining" at all! Especially in this case where a hefty sum was paid up front by them to do the job right! No. I think there is a whole lot of incompetent building contractors and scammers out to do just that. Add to that a couple of egotistical guys who want all the good press and none of the bad doesn't help add credence to how bad remodeling can get. Homeowners have to really do their own research before any contractor comes in.
My cousin and his wife's home was featured on another HGTV show as a remodel. Everything this couple is saying happened to my cousin as well. My cousin said that the show heavily edited many of the scenes, and even went so far as putting up fake items (e.g., range in the kitchen) to appear as complete for the show. At the end of production, several items were left undone; however, none the wiser to the viewer. One of the fake items fell and damaged the wall too. I would never let anyone from HGTV near my house, especially given that there don't seem to be any real perks. All these years I assumed that perks were included.
Realistically quality construction doesn't happen within the confines of TV time. Schedule conflicts of various trades, inspections, and weather just don't line up perfectly 9 out of 10 times. A lot of small details get glossed over. And of course there is a lot of staging of furniture and appliances to give a more polished reveal. Plus the shows get edited down to fit into a time slot. Some people go on this shows with unrealistic expectations instead of understanding that it's just a "televised" version of renovation. Be present just like you would at a "regular" construction job. Always take pictures and document.
I always assumed they did it for free. I can’t believe people pay to have cameras come into their houses and record them and they pay for it what’s the point? Its paying to work and make other people money.

Pretty good scam. You pay us to do your house while we make a tv show and we get paid from that too. Oh yah, if all you wonderful people didn't pay us to remodel your house we wouldn't have a tv show. 😨
Worse than that, they are using the show to get free materials and not passing those savings on to the home owners as well. Then getting the cheapest bidder who hires illegals or unqualified cheap immigrant labor to do the work.
They could have done it themselves and saved themselves over $100,000 dollars in the process which could have been used as retirement funds or whatever else they chose
you're absolutely right. that is a crazy amount of money to give to someone blind. considering how few rooms the shows actually remodel, yeah i think 100k would have done it.
Agree. Have you seen the cost of the furniture and stuff. Crazy. They don't use cheap stuff in furnishings, appliances...all high dollar. I could have done this all myself. Maybe took longer time to get it done, but it would have been done correctly the first time.
@@mstinamichele I completely agree with you! Whenever the show states the cost of the furniture, decor and appliances, all I can think is “where do these bozos buy this stuff that they’re being charged THOSE prices??” I can get stuff just as good for a fraction of the price! But I live within a budget and know how to shop. I think these shows have contracts with certain furniture providers - The Brick - is definitely one of those partnered with the show and their shit is overpriced for what you get.
Some, I trust, but only those with a long list of experience prior to having a tv show. Ex Chip & Joanna Gaines, Fixer Upper. But not property brothers. It's so suspicious that they claim homeowners wouldn't let them in, yet you see where they moved electric panels but didn't close the old ones, or stained things. Plus noone would do an interview on camera? Very sus considering we know they love cameras!
I like how the Brother's lawyer claimed the couple's goal was to just create a negativity campaign for the show when literally so many things in the house were broken or cosmetically faulty. They took it so personally against their show and the Brother's reputation, as if this couple literally didn't pay every single penny for what they designed and built lol. If you don't want negativity or a bad rep, maybe 1) don't make the family pay for literally EVERYTHING so you can at least get away with some half-assed discounted work OR 2) literally just don't do a sloppy shit job? And some of the stuff seems nit picky but it really isn't. When you pay for something brand new what's the point when it's already functioning or looking like it's been used for YEARS, like the French doors that couldn't even close and let water leak through them? It's just embarrassing honestly and I've had similar situations with remodeling with a contractor and when the contractor does something wrong they either 1) get upset that they have to re-do their work and sometimes try to charge you additional fees OR 2) tear up the work they just did as rough and sloppy as possible and do an even "shittier" job doing it the "right way" the second time. Everyone brags about trade jobs and how much you can make with them but these are literally the experiences people get from those same "trade job experts" making their acclaimed 70k+ a year...
Exactly. Like one of my favorite sayings "If you don't have time to do it right the first time, how will you ever have time to do it over?". My husband and I have built an addition on our house, put a wraparound deck on, and are in the process of building our porch. From building the deck and porch I've discovered that I really like building decks. I was trying to talk my husband into starting a husband/wife decking company. I even had the name picked out, H Squared Decking. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I probably don't want to deal with homeowners. Especially the ones who think they know it all and insist on work being done a certain way, then throw a fit when you say you can't because it's not up to code. Or not understanding that certain things cost more money, or physically cannot be done, or would look like crap. It's a shame though, I really did enjoy doing it and we did really good work. I actually have holes I need to be repairing in my bedroom and stairwell walls right now and not wasting time on UA-cam. Off to work.
I completely agree I had a nightmare with a contractor 2 years ago spent $11,000 having a three Season room closed in it is now falling down these people should face fraud charges at the very least
Am I mistaken or did they say the brothers were NOT listed in the lawsuit? I think if they wanted to attack the brothers they would be suing them, right? I understand the show is their face but come on...if you do bad work what do you expect?
Not always.. I sold kitchens and the crap i saw from major companies was infuriating.. 200k doesnt go far.. 50k bathrooms..40k roofs.. windows also in the tens of thousands.. tankless costing 4k to install... rewiring the home to new codes.. Yes if you do a re do of a home then the home must be to todays codes.. OUCH.. Meaning new panel box, because codes demand more protections on circuits..Kitchen now has a lot of direct lines that must be used. windows upgraded insulation upgraded all in areas that are redone.. Fireplaces cannot be repaired over a set amount or changed to a gas.. Homes here now mandated a fire supression system(sprinklers) so now a larger water line to home is needed for the extra flow.. Kitchen alone gets dedicated panel runs for disposal, fridge, outlets, etc read your codes.. Lighting must be energy efficient, hard wired smoke detectors.. The lists go on and on..
They paid what they were quoted, therefore the job should have been done to their satisfaction. They shouldn't be charged extra for doors to close and not leak. That should be included in the price of installation. They shouldn't have to specify that they don't want live electrical wires hanging out of their walls. It's implied by common sense that those should be hidden. And grout down inside your stove and gashes out of the not even close to straight walls, if they had paid 10,000 these things would be unacceptable.
I was done with the Property Brothers when in this one episode the couple requested that the beautiful and huge carrara marble fireplace surround and overmantle be left in place and intact. The twin removed the lower portion of the wall supporting the overmantle and it of course crashed to the ground shattering into hundreds of pieces. Luckily no one was hurt. The twin said it crashed because it hadn't been installed properly. They charged the owner 10 grand to replace it.
Well, they probably wouldn't let me on the show. I would have told them up front if you break it, and you're not supposed to, then you buy it. And that show would have halted because unless they paid for the new $10,000 marble slab, I would be suing immediately.
I remember this episode. Every time I watch the costs always go up, something very expensive and unknown comes up. I get very nervous watching shows like this sometimes.

And guess what same deal you pay Mike up front and he'll be happy to fix it...all these reality construction shows work the same way...it's all just done by a local contractor you could have hired your self and the stars just come in a couple times to shoot some clips and that's it.
this has happened before with these type "home redo" shows where the end product wasn't what the "customer" ordered ,yet this entire project did't happen in a day or 2 ,and the owners definitely were present during it's development. Most likely participating in it's entirety -couple pin heads didn't get ? they sought from the shindig
I'm wondering if they were too hands off during the process. I've seen homeowners hound the property brothers, especially during the construction phase so it's not like they're not allowed to see it thru the process. Like, how did no one question the stove-grout situation early??? I apt hunt and open and close every door repeatedly, surely they could've caught the door situations early too.
But they are suing the construction company and the producers not the property brothers. The $2000 they paid up front was to be on TV, and everything rose would have been paid anyway if they hadn’t answered the calling call to get on TV.
I remember this episode and how excited they were. This is heartbreaking but I've heard this about other shows also. I would never be on a TV show that was a remodeled because I've heard so many bad stories
Sooo basically their agreement was with the contractors and HGTV, the brothers are there for the show basically like actors is what I'm gathering. They likely used a local contractor. I'm sure HGTV attorneys have every detail covering them in their contracts😩
No. The brothers do separate work. One finds the house they buy and the other designs the remodel and hires the contractors to execute the changes. They do work, but it's not the work that the contractors should be doing.
@@whyisblue923taken They dont. Clients already have bought the house when they apply to be on the show. He dose no relator work on it, whatsoeever. And the other, the "contractor" hires a designer and has a MAX film production sheet of 6 hours "construction" work. Meaning he jumps in a workers outfit, someone throws dust on him, and he pretends to do construction for 6 hours MAX then he's out.
@@spoons250 If they were actually buying a house (which they aren't) they would have to hire another realtor anyway since there is no way he is licensed in every state. When they show other houses that the couple are considering they are often homes of friends and family.
It's hard to believe that anyone would pay for their own remodeling while the TV show producers made millions from advertisers for doing none of the remodeling. How these shows are still on the air is baffling.
Maybe what people should do is when they show up to sign the contract have their own lawyer offer a new deal where they get some of the money that the show gets.

I was on one. Be careful. Our contracts signed can prevent us from getting justice for error on their part. And I get to live with it. Unless I get top dollar lawyers which I can not afford.
Sad part is, the workers probably got paid peanuts.. The show probably pocketed the most.. then the owner of the company probably cashed out, leaving those who actually did the work the tiny bit that was left.
Well duh, bad contractors are everywhere not just Vegas... wife and I bought our first home through DR Horton in 2018 and didn’t have any complaints... That’s why you document everything and if you have to have it fix you do it immediately instead of waiting around.
If you give almost a quarter of a mil for a remodel you would expect it to be perfect, and everything with the exception of damage to the stove were simple fixes which the contractors were to lazy to correct and instead mess it up even more, I hope this couple win their suit!!
Property Brothers to contractors: "Get the work done quick because we need to film this Friday and we can't be inconvenienced to film later than that."
I always noticed how property bros would dis prior builders not " building to code " on the show as if they do everything by the book and to the T . Now the truth comes out .... Not suprising. .
To be fair the brothers don't really do any work. They might get a few shots of "work" for hte camera but then the company they hired steps in and takes over.
Ya, NEVER EVER pay 100% up front. Put it in a Bank TRUST account that is payable On the "AS PER " step/progress. Where BOTH parties confirm each step is done and 10-15% Is held until closing for things to prove out proper.
The show makes it seem like Johnathan works with & supervises the workers, but apparantly they outsource the work & take no responsibility if the contractors do sub standard work
I stopped watching any on HGTV years ago when I realized it was breeding discontent in my heart toward my home which isn't fancy by any means, but it's well built and plenty good enough.
I sold kitchens, it was funny they demanded a change that only lasted a year at most until the newest style came out.. I refused to do a kitchen that had fantastic high quality cabinets.. Better then I was selling.. But peoples just had to have it.. I loved doing the old run down kitchen.. The smiles I created on the happy customer was a great feeling..
The Property Brothers were there while this was happening and they did the reveal. The homeowners did the show because of the Brothers. They should be included in the Lawsuit.
I learned a long time ago it's about promising you the world, taking all your money, and then giving you the least amount possible. That's how contracts work.
Yes. Especially with realtors, lawyers, mechanics, roofers, plumbers, car dealers, mortgages, banks, utility companies, credit cards, internet service providers, credit unions... All operating as rip offs.
The grout in the range is fascinating...like where they do that at? Sounds like they're cutting corners on the quality of contractors they're getting to complete the work. It actually sounds like the brothers don't actually supervise the process off camera.
I do the same……. Every show that comes on…she wants redo kitchen told her you gotta have patience not 1hr. Patience, few days ,let’s work with COVID curbside can’t always get what you exactly need 😂
I’m like this but with computer stuff and law god oh god do I hate when people use their knowledge of bones ( tv show ) and law and order for legal advice
The only construction show I used to watch was Mike Holmes' show. He would go into homes that OTHER CONTRACTORS screwed up and go into detail about what was NOT DONE...and then FIX IT. He is an honest contractor and a solid dude. I'd definitely hire him to fix my home. He's honest.
I am a contractor I would be embarrassed to handover work that was completed like this actually I would not even attempt to say I’m done and I have no TV show.
That makes you a great contractor with integrity , you love your craft which means you put your everything into a project. I wish I could find one like you. I started doing things myself.
The crap they are complaining about 2 years later is ridiculous. You cannot honestly say if a client called you YEARS later and said "you scratched my door handle and my grout is crooked by 2 centimeters" that you would be jumping up to go fix it
How many projects do you think they have going on at one time? I know they have a new episode every week and it’s a start to finish all wrapped up in an hour. Is that how long it actually takes? These guys must really be phenomenal!
@@heystarfish100 sure but given the amount of money they make and importance of their reputation to that money, it should be a no brainer to spend the relatively small amount of money to fix these problems.
@@cc3184 Good from afar but far from good. The homeowner has a contract with the construction contractor. The brothers are just pretty faces. The homeowner has to have some sort of sign off for the final I would imagine. I don’t think any of these home shows build perfection but what works good for the cameras is good enough. Caveat emptor.
Facts. I personally only get involved in things when there are guarantees, and things will be checked every step. If not, then I'm out. Ain't trusting nobody.
You are hard to plz i’ve been in construction for a while it’s nearly impossible to go into a house that is completely constructed and change some thing without accidentally damaging something else. For instants when you open the wall you could accidentally cut the wire,That’s just one example, 1 million things can go wrong as a homeowner you need to understand that your house may not be built perfectly as well causing extra difficulty for the contractors. Ps there is a reason that nobody likes doing remodels. Everyone I know would just rather do new construction
That is my experience so far. The worst was a company that was installing new windows and residing the house. In one room they installed the window on one wall noticeably lower than the other window. And they charged extra to fix it!
I'll never forget watching hgtv's battle on the beach. I thought wow this living room is gorgeous...until Mike Holmes came in shook the railing a little and it almost fell over!!......he's probably the only one that does quality work in the whole franchise
I think it’s b/c the money was exchanged between the couple and the show, not the brothers. Drew is just a realtor Jonathan is only 1 man, and I’m not really sure how much responsibility he takes on.
@Rusty Kinks Contractors get thrown under the bus?? They're the ones that did the work! It's like blaming the gun instead of the shooter in a crime. Don't get me wrong, the brothers and the show are responsible too, but the contractors owns a major portion of the blame.
In my opinion, the Property Brothers are nothing but frauds. They should be tossed in prison for the rest of their lives and their show cancelled and removed from TV. Whatever money they have should be given to the homeowners that they have scammed.
I am finding it amazing that it’s not only The Property Brothers. I believe that if you check, HGTV, another show, Love it or List it, has or had a lawsuit against them also. But in the scheme of things, how many shows have been done with everything perfect?
Property Brothers and the network should be ashamed. They should care more about their reputation and be assisting this couple in getting this contractor to fix his crappy work instead of helping the contractor take advantage of yet another homeowner.
I don’t understand why the tv show makes the homeowners pay the full remodel costs when they are making money off of the show. Plus, why are they paying up front before the work is signed off on? I hope they win the lawsuit. This is bad business. Hopefully, this story stops other homeowners from becoming prey to this scam.
THIS is precisely why my husband and I personally built our own home from the ground up. We knew hiring contractors would lead to more problems as well as code problems. it took us 2 years but even the building inspector knew we were owner/builder because there was nothing he saw that needed to be fixed in the construction. All inspections passed, and the inspector was kind of a jerk and we knew that if it wasn't perfect he wouldn't sign off the job. As my husband always said, "if it's on TV it's fake" Look at all the reality shows out there they're all scripted, even the fights, all fake.
Pretty amazing that you learned every trade and mastered it to build a game what would take most humans 15 to 20 years to learn you were able to do every trade absolutely amazing.
@@crystalwiser5980 do you work for the show or do you not know how do anything trade wise so you degrade people? It is amazing you dont know anything about the person that commented but you still had to say some BS. I know someone that built their house. My friend and his wife. In the late 80s. He is a carpenter. Building a house isn't easy. But I think plumbing, electrical and etc. Is easier when building a place then having to rip out and repair later on. To get everything back to the way it was. How about being a nice person instead of being a judgmental butthole.
The audacity of these property brothers to accuse them of trying to make money off a negative publicity stunt when those homeowners actually covered all the flaws they found in their homes in DETAIL.
My company was ask to be a part of "Extreme Makeover" years ago, I think it was called. Once I read what they wanted, in the time they wanted it, and wanted ME to supply materials and work for free to "be on TV" I just laughed at them. I was fixing tornado damage, for a friend, right up the road from their job site. What a joke. Never seen a more cobbled up mess in my life ! Always keep in mind. NOTHING on "reality" TV is even close to real ! Oh, and the clowns that were on the TV, supposedly doing the work, weren't on that job site 30 minutes the whole time. " I want you all to see the room I worked on for the family" Bull crap... LOL
Wow, I feel for this couple. They should contact all of the people who have participated in HGTV shows and start a class-action lawsuit. They aren't scam artists as Property Brothers' attorney states. They are scam victims.
I feel bad for supporting these shows as I was an avid fan. I actually thought the brothers were so knowledgeable in what they were doing, such a disappointment really
Yes another couple that sued them was told they needed to film the final reveal because the brothers needed to move on to the next house so they would make it look done and the contractor would finish after but that never happened once the show left no one cared.
Agreed. This is why most renovations run into months, instead of a week or whatever the show timeframe is. Overlapping a variety of laborer skills just isn't the proper way to go. It will never work.
Very, very interesting. I've often wondered if all is what it seems on these property shows and if the makeover team ever gets sued. I'm shocked this involves the Scotts, since they've been around so long and they seem so well-respected....but shoddy work is shoddy work. Hope this couple wins their suit - they gave up a lot of money only to end up with all these problems.
You seriously have to be kidding - you wondered if they ever get sued ? These shows are nothing but rolling lawsuits - of course they have worked the homeowner / victim into signing a very one sided contract in advance or they never get on TV - so imagine how bad the situation has to be - to get lawyers to take action against after that - I guarantee you if someone ever went to a lawyer BEFORE they did one of those shows - there would never be another one made again - they are taking advantage of people who want to be on TV and with the most valuable asset they will likely ever own . I watch some of those shows and like some of them but I have also done some of my own projects and it is never like it looks like on TV
Doesn’t matter if it’s a show or not. They need to have the work done properly whether they paid $200 or $200k.
It all depends who you hire...get what you pay for, if you are expecting expert quality dont go for fame of a tv show
If you hire someone you are paying for how they do it, not how you want them to do it, no matter what you try. "I could do better myself" is my favorite....like why did you hire me then?
It's their show so why are ppl footing the full bill or paying anything.

As a fellow contractor I agree
I always thought the show paid for everything and was always envious of people getting their home re done on this show. What a SCAM
Nope you basically get to put up your own renovation budget to be a guest producer of an episode of Property Brothers.
I believed the same thing… I assumed from the money the show makes it would do free makeovers and then pocket the money after the costs.
I was never under the impression that the show paid for anything. They always have a budget and have to request more money if there are problems that come up. Why would you think the show paid?

I could never leave my money and my house at the mercy of celebrities. One: TV shows only feature the good sides, two: celebrities only care about a constant flow of money into their wallets. Three: If a celebrity wants a lawyer just so he would respond, already shows that they are trying to cover something up, without losing their money.
The brothers' name is attached to this show. They are making millions. They need to be held accountable
👏👏👏👏👏
Contractors Board is Hardcore in Nevada. If they said the homeowners are not being reasonable that’s probably right
I bet when they do the houses of celebrities.....it gets done right though?
Kathi, that’s not how it works. The brothers are seen as host of the show and not actual builders. You can’t sue someone who didn’t do or supervise the work. Just because someone is worth “millions” doesn’t mean they should foot the bill.
@@modernskyn yeah that's why you see them pretending to be working on the project as if they're the one's actually doing the work....either way I feel what Kathi said hit the nail on the head... It's thier show, with thier names attached to it!!!
Bet they don't use the same contractors when they do the celebrities home's!!!!!!!
SNAP!
Whatever the reason- someone needs to be held accountable.
they dont do any work.
Now we know they don't do the work themselves and won't call an respond after being all in their face for the cameras
At first you think. Man they are whining about really little stuff. Then you think hey. If I spent 195k for a REMODEL not even a new build but a REMODEL. Everything should be 100% perfect
Exactly 💯
Anyone who goes on a show expecting to NOT be screwed is insane. I can not count the number of times I have heard about these things going wrong.
So did I. I had no idea these ppl were paying for this them self. If that’s the case what the hell I need to be on tv for lol.
@@MsKizzy23 exactly! And most of this shit they had done was overpriced! They were paying for the celebrity name only.
@@MsKizzy23 they want to say my house was renovated by so and so to hope to up the price at resell.

Indeed. I've been watching old episodes of My dream home where the timeframe to renovate a whole house is six weeks. Paint take a week to dry.
And i thought these are free jeez. I wonder how much money they got every episode...
And...we have a game show that...renders the player with more out of pocket than rewards!!
Crazy af. I'm not giving almost $200k to no damn tv show. Y'all could've used that money and did it yourselves smh.

But I live within a budget and know how to shop. I think these shows have contracts with certain furniture providers - The Brick - is definitely one of those partnered with the show and their shit is overpriced for what you get.

That's why I gave up watching HGTV; because it's "reality TV'" and not professional.
Am I mistaken or did they say the brothers were NOT listed in the lawsuit? I think if they wanted to attack the brothers they would be suing them, right? I understand the show is their face but come on...if you do bad work what do you expect?
Contractors can be such a huge gamble it's crazy. They're either amazing or leave the jobsite for a month to do other jobs.
I don't care what anyone says. The house better look perfect when someone spends nearly 200k.
@@Peter-td3yk you sound stupid, excuses I pay 200k for a perfect job not a halfass job.

And here they are.. Still trying to get on t.v... Lol..
But they are suing the construction company and the producers not the property brothers. The $2000 they paid up front was to be on TV, and everything rose would have been paid anyway if they hadn’t answered the calling call to get on TV.

A great new show idea for hgtv would be for Mike to go and visit and fix the Scott brothers remodel homes.
I always thought those property brothers were too good to be true. 🤮🤮🤮
All show
Same, but the people in charge of the show and the brothers themselves are just greedy🤑🤑
Wait. This is a ‘property brothers’ remodel?
Yet, the brothers are not named?
Weren’t the brothers responsible?
I think it’s b/c the money was exchanged between the couple and the show, not the brothers.
Drew is just a realtor
Jonathan is only 1 man, and I’m not really sure how much responsibility he takes on.
It’s just their show but the brothers don’t physically do the work. The hired contractors are the ones responsible.
@Rusty Kinks Contractors get thrown under the bus?? They're the ones that did the work! It's like blaming the gun instead of the shooter in a crime. Don't get me wrong, the brothers and the show are responsible too, but the contractors owns a major portion of the blame.
@Rusty Kinks I can totally understand that. When the show wants unreal expectations, they'll get less than stellar results.
In my opinion, the Property Brothers are nothing but frauds. They should be tossed in prison for the rest of their lives and their show cancelled and removed from TV. Whatever money they have should be given to the homeowners that they have scammed.
The only celebrity contractor I would trust is Mike Holmes.
What about the guy from this old house?
I agree
Damn straight
I hope you live in Canada, because that hack's work wouldn't pass code in the US.
For real. And now, his children.
Sue the brothers and HGTV. They got to cute and now should pay the price
I think you mean Jonathan.
@@annettesjoy All I know is they are both fake and got caught up in that Hollywood bliss
Moral of the story don’t answer a casting call.
I never liked those brothers. There was something not right about them
Smh quality is so important!
These builders in Vegas are terrible!
Very low quality contractors!
Next time I'd recommend silver lining const co to easily create the desired end product
Sloppy and very unprofessional.
I’m an interior decorator and I’ve always said there is no way to get that done right in the amount of time
I am finding it amazing that it’s not only The Property Brothers. I believe that if you check, HGTV, another show, Love it or List it, has or had a lawsuit against them also. But in the scheme of things, how many shows have been done with everything perfect?
Were they really perfect, or did others just not believe they had the right to complain?
I will never give weight to one or two law suits with as large as they are.
I remember their first show when neighbors would redo a room in each other’s home and there were tons of complaints even then. Pos
Always did think these two guys were not right. To bad people fall for the garbage they push. These guys need to find a real job.
“HGTV Quality” 😂😂😂, that should have been the first red light.
Why
@@cesarcueto1995 because the tv is good at making sure you see what they want you to see and that’s it 😄
@@cesarcueto1995 hgtv does broadcast in high definition...
@@Buyonegettwo but that's not what they were referencing.
@@cesarcueto1995 alright
Property Brothers and the network should be ashamed. They should care more about their reputation and be assisting this couple in getting this contractor to fix his crappy work instead of helping the contractor take advantage of yet another homeowner.
They don't care about anything else but ratings and money thats it
wait - you are telling me these two are fake ? who would have ever guessed LOL
Sue there asses . I will never watch HGTV
THIS is precisely why my husband and I personally built our own home from the ground up. We knew hiring contractors would lead to
more problems as well as code problems. it took us 2 years but even the building inspector knew we were owner/builder because there
was nothing he saw that needed to be fixed in the construction. All inspections passed, and the inspector was kind of a jerk and we knew
that if it wasn't perfect he wouldn't sign off the job. As my husband always said, "if it's on TV it's fake" Look at all the reality shows out there
they're all scripted, even the fights, all fake.
How about being a nice person instead of being a judgmental butthole.
lol good for you...
LOL
It’s a shame. I used to love that show as a kid.
WTF would you pay for something the show is making money on?????
Wow, I feel for this couple. They should contact all of the people who have participated in HGTV shows and start a class-action lawsuit. They aren't scam artists as Property Brothers' attorney states. They are scam victims.
Good idea.. where's there's one this poorly done there's more.
I feel bad for supporting these shows as I was an avid fan. I actually thought the brothers were so knowledgeable in what they were doing, such a disappointment really
I’ve watched their show many times, and I think they take shortcuts for production schedules, shoddy work
Yes another couple that sued them was told they needed to film the final reveal because the brothers needed to move on to the next house so they would make it look done and the contractor would finish after but that never happened once the show left no one cared.
@@hamie58 omg 😳
Agreed. This is why most renovations run into months, instead of a week or whatever the show timeframe is. Overlapping a variety of laborer skills just isn't the proper way to go. It will never work.
This looks like nitpicking to me...
It is
When you gamble in Vegas expect to lose!
That's absolutely unacceptable. I'm disappointed in the brothers and HGTV.
See you fall for it you blame the actors and not the real criminals behind everything.
@Mel Gibbson Better actors than the frauds at Fox Noise.
They probably put 3 nails in themselves at most.
Wow…I am really shocked. I thought the work of the “brothers” was always stellar.
It's television, you know that, right...? Everything is fake.
The statement from the brothers is really disappointing. Sounds like lawyer talk to shame and intimidate the couple.
I won’t be watching the Property Brothers anymore, they let their name be attached to something like this? That’s just shameful.
