Advice for Cross Stitch on the Diagonal that Improved My Full Coverage Cross Stitching Flosstube

- This Stitch With Me project for today is Cosmic Marbles by Aimee Stewart and charted by Heaven and Earth Designs.
I am cross stitching this on the diagonal with parking.
I am stitching this on 18 count Aida fabric with 2 strands of DMC.
I had asked on Instagram for advice on making the back of my cross stitch project less bulky. I'm not concerned with making the backs "pretty" - I just thought I might be able to possibly reduce bulk or thread usage.

I agree, using a 'snake' method or zigzag method of stitching really helps reduce the bulk of thread on the back side of the canvas. The Needle Ninja has some great videos on her method of stitching and parking.

I just got the pattern so I can start this with you! Just have to order the fabric and start rounding up the floss. I am so happy that you got some helpful hints. I always love learning new techniques and tricks to help me improve my stitching. ❤️

I learned the start zig-zag and complete every cross from watching Needlebugg’s videos. I’ve not gone back to any other way of stitching since learning the diagonal method from her. Loved seeing the major difference on the backside of your work. Great advice you gave on this video.

Thank you for saying (essentially) "You are allowed to do the entire X in one go, you don't have to get confused by just doing half at once". I always get frustrated by stitching because it makes me feel dumb when I get confused where to go next with my single legs. But something about how I was raised makes me feel like doing different from what was written down in instructions will open me up for deserved ridicule, so instead of doing entire Xs like I want, I just stop stitching :(
I'm working to change this aspect of my personality, I would very much like to be the type of person who can confidently do their own thing in EVERYTHING, not just cross-stitch!
I really appreciate your comment ❤️ you can always stitch with me one stitch at a time! I tend to not read instructions or follow directions well. So I might benefit from a little more influence with that. ☺️

Do you keep multiple needles threaded?
Hi Kim, if I park a thread in the same row or the one below then I do keep it on the needle. If it's parked further than that, I will take it off. Otherwise it gets too tangled.
Why have You quit using closed captioning? Your voice is so light that I can barely hear you! I am very hard of hearing and depend upon the captioning to really understand what is going on.
Hi Linda. I do appreciate you mentioning the caption issue and apologize that it’s not working. I’ll take a look at it in a few days when I’m back at home and can access a computer. I usually just have music in my videos and use the option for UA-cam to automatically add captions. But I will look into why it’s not working on this video.
