Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 жов 2024
- Are you ready for a challenge? Well for the next 7 ( week 1 is done) weeks we are going to make a quilt block a week using half square triangles. Half Square Triangle Quilt blocks are the bread and butter of the quilting community. The half square triangle is so versatile and you will be amazed at the patterns you can make with a half square triangle block.
The rules:
1). Make a new quilt using half square triangle quilt blocks. Don't cheat!
2). Share your quilt made of half square triangle quilt blocks by sending a picture to aprilscraftroom at gmail dot com. They will be shared on week 9.
3). Enter to win the quilt that I made using half square triangle blocks at the end of the 8 weeks.
That's it. Make a quilt (don't use one you made last year) using half square triangle blocks. Share your quilt with the group. Enter to win a quilt.
During the 8 weeks of the challenge, I will share tips and tricks that can make your half square triangle creation easier. But don't worry - you do not need the extra tools. If you have a straight ruler, a rotary cutter, a pen and a sewing machine - you already have everything you need.
All you need to do is join in the fun!

I love the star block! Then you showed the big star panel star!!! OMGOSH!!! I love it so much!!! What a miraculous ginormous quilt! Great video April!!!!!
@@sisterchicksquilting thank you. And I had your voice in my head saying you should do a big block that is quilt size.
Thank you for featuring the book “The Ghost Who Was a Quilt.” It is such a cute story and will be perfect for my granddaughter’s fifth birthday to go along with the unicorn panel quilt I made for her.
I love the half square triangles. I am looking forward to learning new ways to make them.
I ❤ my perfectly slotted trimmer.
I use the slotted trimmer all the time. It was definitely worth buying
Thank you so much for the video!😊
The cardinal quilt is beautiful! I am enjoying your half square triangle techniques!
Thank you so much!
I have a massive stack of HST’s that are cut offs from other project. I just pulled all the warm colored ones, in all sizes and will use from this pile. A great use for them. Thanks
Cute block.
So pretty!
Great job 😊
A baking mat would work the same. Maybe place your pressing sheet over the silicone sheet & your iron will glide. Just a thought! Love the block!
The only problem with that is the baking sheet is slick. We need to have grippy on the back and slick on the top. But maybe I should put the baking sheet on top. Maybe that is what you meant. 😀
@@aprilscraftroom I would put the pressing sheet on top of the silicone mat.
@@szelop I think that is a great idea. Then the fabric will stay and the iron will glide over it. But you would still need to make sure the fabric is open enough to iron it flat. 🤪
The world stops when my phone announces you are on!!!!!
Awwww. You are sweet.
When can you retire from coding and you tube full time?
Thank you for this video. I hope it works for me. I love that large block behind you. The black and white block you made is also very pretty. I like that black print.
I'm loving this block. It's going on my never-ending to do list. 😊
Love watching your videos you are such an inspiration
I'm so glad! You are too kind.
I love cardinals too!
Just watched week 2 - went back and watched week 1 - going to get started. Thanks April. ❤️😁🌹
Looking good. Love the cardinal panel 🎉
Love this series thank you April!
April that machine is beautiful!! Do you love it!? I have a grace long arm. But I still use my domestic for straight line quilting. That machine would be amazing for that!
In preparation for this next block I ironed all my material Saturday night. Now to decide what colors to use to make this block. My quilt will be a quilt of many colors, like Jacob’s cost of many colors. I have the same pattern in various colors. Thanks for the tutorial. And, I saw my quilt block at the end of the video. Thanks.
I was given the leftovers of a project with many triangles already done. I will make stars with them! Maybe a small lap quilt or a table runner. Thanks for the inspiration.
Love the cardinal quilt
I love watching you!!
Love the HST star!
Great tips Tks, maybe u need one of those small design boards, various sizes, to lay out your block so u can move it to your sewing machine, they r great. U could even do a video on making some….
That is an excellent idea. Are you in marketing? If you’re not you should be. 😀
Love your helper I have one too
Aw missed live but watching replay
Was there a live?
The big Star quilt with the panel looks great you need to write a computer program for all your math
Love the green star
Love your HST series. Sew Becca has a great cheat sheet on her website for things like sizes needed to cut HSTs flying geese etc.
❤❤❤
Hello Ms. April! 😊
I love love your videos! I am a new quilter. I have been wanting to do hst and also joining a quilt along. However, I dont have knowledge of how it works. How do I know how much yardage I will need to complete project? Do I need to preplan a color theme? Is every block going to be the same size? If not, do I need to have the experience to join various size blocks together to complete quilt top? TIA. Your videos are very easy to follow and hope that this too wud b easy to follow as a new quilter as well. 😊
Hi Linda. Being new to quilting can be intimidating. I would pick the pattern I want to make first. That should answer to other questions you have. I have been showing different ways of cutting blocks to get hst blocks and that resulted in multiple size hst's. For your first hst quilt, I would find a pattern with all the same sizes. You could make a quilt of all star blocks and just use different colors to make the blocks - that would be beautiful. I made a whole quilt with Star Blocks using bandanas. The pattern you pick will determine that amount of fabric you need. I hope this gets you started. Please ask more questions and you can always email me at aprilscraftroom at gmail dot com.
@@aprilscraftroom I just bought red white and blue bandanas to make holiday placemats.
Sounds like great wisdom! I appreciate your time answering my questions. I will take your advice and wait on a quilt long . Tx again
Hi April! I really love watching your videos. May I ask what your black and white challenge blocks finish at, size wise? I have quilted for years and avoided hst’s because I was scared of having a bias edge. But, I want to take this challenge and want to be accurate. Thanks in advance!
This week's hst's are 3 1/2". And give them a try. They are a bit more of a challenge, but the designs you can create are amazing!
April, great video! I have a question is the Grace rebel , is that an extension table or do you have it in a sewing table? If this is an extension table it is very generous with surface space. I hope that makes sense..
OMGOODNESS!!! That panel block start is awesome ❤❤
Lisa - that is an extension table that comes with the Rebel. I wish I had a table for it but that is supposed to come soon.
@@aprilscraftroom thank you for your quick response.
Thanks for the breakdown! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Was I supposed to make 2 of the 1st block? I'm confused 😕
No. You can make as many or as few as you like.
@@aprilscraftroom Thank you!
If you iron on it dissappears.
Could I make this out of scraps I have a lot of HST that are 4 and half from other project
Absolutely. This is the perfect challenge for scraps.
Another great tutorial, love the cardinal quilt!!!! I’m wondering if you will put borders on it?
the pen is pronounced FRICTION. Frixion
I don’t mean to correct you April, but you say sew on either side of the line, which to me means one side or the other. If you were to say both sides of the line that would be more grammatically correct. 😅
You are quite correct. Thank you for correcting me. I know there are new quilters and I need to be accurate for them. 😀
It is ok, bless your heart. Not sure what part of the south you are from but ‘round these parts, “either sides” means “both”. Y’all have a great day now, you hear?
Where I come from either side means both sides! Been saying it all my life….and my Mum said it all her life too!
I think in the USA at least, we have been using "either side" meaning both sides, for at least as long as I have been alive (70 yrs). It can also mean one side or the other. Maybe that is why others say that English is hard to learn
There's nothing wrong with making a suggestion. I agree it could be confusing to others not familiar with our colloquial southern speech. Just because we have always heard it one way doesn't necessarily make it right. When we know better, we do better. 😊
Press your seams open that way you won't have dark showing in the white
You're so smart! LOL That didn't even occur to me. Thank you. :-)
I learned that from Adidas centaur designer out of California laundry basket quilt company
I did not like the clearly perfect trimmer. I found that it was not accurate
I found that it makes a difference on how you place it in relationship to the seam. The seam takes up space when I press the fabric back.
