I just finished reading the book finally after watching Olivia and it was wonderful to see her face spring off the pages. She was magnetic. The book ending is heartbreaking...I am gripped with melancholy.
I signed up to VK (Russian version of Facebook) and they have most of her films. This is because they have no copyright protection. This goes for audiobooks, epubs, anything. Oddly they don't block LGBT groups on their either. With the way Russia is you would think so
If anyone is interested I just found out after an insane amount of digging that Edwige was in fact a lesbian. She had made a pass at her co-star Simone Simon years earlier when they were both working on the same play- Edwige had a major role and went by Cora Lyn whilst Simone instead was an extra. Because of this their relationship on Olivia was tense with neither of them barely saying a word to each other! This is covered in Simone's biography. There are other anecdotes about Feuillère's somewhat "predatory" behaviour but the most fascinating is by the famous french Journalist Josyane Savigneau in Point de côté! Even at 77 hitting on - and by what Josyane explains, consumating things with a 33 year old woman. No wonder she sizzled with that energy in her films.
I wouldn’t call that predatory behavior as they’re all adults! ♥️ I definitely think her on- screen chemistry with other women hinted at her real life sexuality :)
@@kitnkabootle oh I wasn't saying predatory in a bad way, I would have loved to have been one of her targets haha. One of the anecdotes that does make her out to be more that way was that she met up with a would be actress who wanted to be in theatre but Edwige was actually only interested in her body not her acting 🤣
Fascinating! Thank you 😊 Where did you find your information, and was it mostly in French? Interesting how frequently I am drawn to certain actresses only to find out ...
@@melodiefrances3898 some was in French, though ny french is rudimentary so still need a lot translated. The book by Piere Barrilet called Simone Simon - La Feline touches on her experience with Edwige coming onto her, then there are blogs with French theatre folk and others talking about how it was a very open secret within the theatre world. The blog was Soyons Suave. They speak also about Claudette Colbert. The other reliable mention is from Josyane Savigneau 'La Passion des Ècrivains' but you will be able to find an extract about Edwige online. I would just google their names together and see how you go. You can always use google translate! In Edwige's own words, she excitedly spoke of how she was breastfed as a child by a woman who wasn't her mother but had "these glorious large breasts!" Haha. That was a bit of a surprising thing to read! She also had an infatuation with La Argentina and Carmen Amaya. She also surrounded herself with all of the french gays, both men and women. She appears to have been in a relationship with Michele Morgan (famously known in France as the prettiest eyes in cinema) for some time going by the trail I've followed. As you can tell I've enjoyed researching her life 😅 Loving older women is one thing, but what is it to have a crush on the dead!
Unforgettable, a queen, an empress... everything... loved her, thank You ❤️
I had such a crush on her in Olivia 😻
Same I even wrote a poem about her 💕😭 .
I watched Olivia only for Her 🥴🖤
