I really like how you mentioned that Shallan and Jasnah are very stromg female characters. Especially since people often think a strong female character has to be a fighter, someone who can take out anyone, when a strong female character is ultimately just a well-written one, which Shallan and Jasnah absolutely are. Very insightful, and another reason why I love Brandon Sanderson's work as well as your reviews!
I have been thinking about doing a video just analyzing Sanderson's writing style and showing what tools he uses to make his stories to compelling. I would love to talk with you about your opinions on his works and get another perspective. HMU if that sounds interesting to you!
Daniel Greene Sanderson is not literary enough for me.His writing contains very little narration and mostly dialogue which I don't find interesting
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 cool
Jeffrey Kaufmann that is actully what I enjoy the most about his writing style. I tend to lose interest if there's too much narration and little dialogue.
Can’t believe it’s been almost 10 years since I uploaded this video!
Loved your review! Had this one on my tbr for a while and I finally got around to reading it this month! This book due to the sheer size and me being an epic fantasy newbie, was intimidating at first but I'm so glad I did it! The world of Roshar that Sanderson has created is just amazing...with all the religions, customs, races and the many many magic systems. It was such a vivid colorful world! Dalinar is my favorite character to read about...I'm calling him the Badass Blackthorn from now on... His scenes had one of the best battle scenes. I also liked reading about the political intrigue and his interactions with his sons and the other princes. Kaladin's story line was fast-paced and action packed, he wasn't a fave character but I did like the Bridge Four storyline and the other bridge men's interactions. Shallan's part...well, I wasn't too invested in her story line, her parts were a chore to read at times...sorry... Szeth's interludes were just awesome, kind of violent and sad though...I hope we get more of his pov in the next books. The things I found the most intriguing were Szeth's story and the backstory of the Parshendi...I feel that understanding those things may be the key point of the whole plot...considering that this is the first of a 10 book series, I think we may get a clearer view of the overall big picture of the story. This book, long as it was still felt like a prologue of everything. Good job on this 1st book review!! :) I hope you continue to make more book reviews!
My friends love Brandon Sanderson. I started on the mistborn trilogy. I read Warbreaker and the rithmatist next, then the wax and Wayne series. I literally just finished the book an hour ago and I WANT TO HEAR PEOPLE'S THOUGHTS ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT'S 2 AM AND I ATE A SLICE OF PIZZA AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE NOW I CAN'T GO TO SLEEP.
♨️Your review is one of my all time favorite reviews of The way of Kings, you stared me off with Sanderson. Thank you ... all these yrs later.
You convinced me to read this book and I cant thank you enough, its one of the best books ive ever read. If your looking for a new series you will not regret starting this one.
I wanted to watch your review before I picked it up and you've sold me on it. I'm gonna start it today.
I am going to pick this up like, right now!
Did you like it? It's being made into a movie, now.
So how was it?
I really like Brandon Sanderson. He has the ability to tell an amazing story without losing the reader in an array of flowery language. Not the most cerebral reading, but the scope and the attention to character development really make it enjoyable to read.
Three years later and I'm wondering if you've put a new smoke detector battery in yet
Any update on that detector yet?
Bro, do another one
man im thinking about picking this up, its been a long time sence I've read a book. Ive never been to fond or reading but I love to write. You did a good job on this review and got me a bit pumped to start!
Hey, dude! Great review! It actually was what convinced me to start it the other day and I'm a bit over halfway through. WOW. So dang epic. You should most definitely put up a review of Words of Radiance when you finish it!
Great review man, I'm so close to the end of the book and I'm like so obsessed I can't wait to see what happens in the end it's probably going to be EPIC!!
Thanks for the compliment! You'll definitely enjoy the ending, it's pretty great. Just wait till you finish WoR!
40 pages left! best book ive read to date. ive ordered the words of radiance off amazon in hardcover because i cant stand pocket versions (here in 2 days) :(. if you guys loved this book a close second for me would be the lightbringer trilogy - light based magic system and its just a great read. the world building isnt as detailed but the action and characters are just amazing.
also great review, but i would note to focus on world building aspects, and character traits in your reviews. you detail too many things of the story (while minor) could give someone a solid theory on how the book develops if they choose to read it. the reviewer you mentioned that influenced you to read this did a great job of that. just offering advice from a reader who loves going into a book with a blindfold so to speak but knows what room they are in
I happened upon Mistborn several years ago, read some of it before getting distracted and putting it down.. I think I just wasn't mentally mature enough to comprehend the full magnitude of what I was reading. My mind kept coming back to it, though, for about a year, so I tried it out again--and I finished it in two days. If it weren't for my experience with the Mistborn Trilogy, I don't believe I could have been brave enough to read The Way of Kings. I mean, it's a 1000+ page book! The way that Brandon Sanderson is able to create whole worlds, with proper laws, cultures, languages, fashion trends, histories, conflicts, (the list goes on and on) and still make the characters and their struggles familiar is extraordinary. I mean, Mistborn is like a medieval, modern, fantastical, gothic, real novel, with believable characters. In many ways, Mistborn defined me as a reader, but also as a character in my own story. Now, Taking what he's done already, The Way of Kings has changed me as a person in so many ways. I look at politics in a different way, I wonder about religion, right and wrong, conflict on a massive scale and a daily one, philosophy, history, even societal trends and what they say about humanity as a whole. I finished this book a year and a half ago, and I haven't been able to read anything else since. It was just TOO GOOD. Anything else simply pales in comparison. I'm genuinely happy to have found a series and an author that I know will not disappoint me, and I'm so excited to see that others feel the same way! I can not wait to read the next book!
You picked an amazing book for your first review.
This is my favorite of Sanderson's series
I freakin love The Way of Kings!! I have read it 2 times and I have it on audible!! XOXOXOX
I recently finished TWOK and ill be honest almost through the whole story i didnt really care about Shallans story but toward the end of the book I was like HOLY SHIT and flipped my opinion around Brandon made and incredible book a slow burn but worth it in the end gonna read WOR ASAP.
I’m starting it now. I’m about 30 pages into this beast. I’m very excited!
I've read the 1st and 2nd book a few years ago. Literally the first and last novels I've read up to this point. I'm reading them again to catch up for the third one. I can't wait!
I just recently finished the way of kings. I absolutely adore this book. Kaladin is my new favorite all time character. he is so amazing! I can't wait to read words of radiance. I read the first two books in his reckoners trilogy they r really good also
Dude. Gotta replace the battery in your smoke alarm. Those beeps are driving me crazy.
Luke Johnson dude I looked around my house for half and hour trying to find it
O good I thought it was my, just replaced mine yesterday
I have read the mistborn trilogy and the way of kings by brandon sanderson and have loved everything about them! i want to get and read the rest of his books, especially because of the way they are all apparently connected in some sort of universal/cosmic way. That just sounds really cool! nice video :D
this was the first book i read by him apart from his first wheel of time contribution. a 1200 page monster which is kind of my thing. it was so good as soon as i finished it, i read it again.
everyone that reads him knows his world building is spectacular. another fantastic aspect i find of him is his art of the reveal. his plot twists; damn
Such a shame you didn’t post anything anymore! Do you have a Instagram page?
Finished book one and onto part two now . I am reading the 1200 page edition like the one in this review
I just purchased this book on the Google play store to read on my phone instead of a hard copy. I hope I didn't make a mistake in that regard.
wait wait wait... a male doing book reviews, who isn't extremely feminin O.o have my sub good sir!
Jonsel You just read my mind... I can't stand those feminists
Jaskaran Singh u fucktard he meant gay

@@gunmanskelly lol
i've been noticing this as well. why do they generally seem gay? what am i missing?
I was reading 100 pages of this a day, it was so interesting
My first read by Sanderson. So damn good. Looking forward to Mistborn next, just picked that up.
I’m reading it now
this review got me into reading this author. Thank you CAUSE I WASN'T TOO SURE BUT NOW I'M SURE !!!!!!
After I read chapter 71 in world of radiant I cried so hard “Oh storm She Smiled anyway” dose it to me every time Kaladin ur not alone
I've been wanting to read this!! I can't decide if I should read this or the Mistborn Trilogy first. Great video, at least from what I saw. I had to stop at like 5 minutes in case there were spoilers lol. I look forward to watching this whole video after I read this book (=
Hey thanks for checking it out! I know February is the beginning of a year long read-a-long hosted by various book tube members called #yearofcosmere which they will be reading all of Brandon Sanderson's work throughout the year. The first is Mistborn:Final Empire which they will be starting in Feb! Hope this helps.
I just heard of it today actually. I would love to participate! It's such a big commitment though! lol. I'm hoping i'll be able to keep up.
Firstly let me say that you don't have to read them in a particular order. But... having read pretty much everything Sanderson has written, i would recommend starting with Mistborn.
Way of Kings is awesome, but it's huge, and it's the first of a 10 book series which won't be finished for years to come (The Stormlight Archive). The Mistborn Trilogy is complete (although there are more books you can read if you want).
Also, there are more Cosmere related characters, clues and events in The Stormlight Archive which you will probably only pick up on if you read the other books first. So i think it's more fun that way.
The reading order that has been set out in #YearOfCosmere is very sensible. I highly recommend you join in! :D
Douglas File Thanks for the info! I was definitely leaning towards starting the Mistborn Trilogy first. Nowww I think i definitely will. I can't wait to start exploring the Cosmere ^_^
You need to read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
Didn't finish the book, I couldn't get into it. I'm going to try again after I finish the First Law trilogy.
You are talking about loving one of my favorite books while wearing a Star Wars shirt... must subscribe 😄
Aaand I just realized you don't have any more videos.... lol. Well I just discovered booktube and have been disappointed by the lack of high fantasy/epic fantasy. So I enjoyed your video!
Beshemoth you should check out Peruseproject. fantasy and historical fiction are her favorite genres. I was also bummed out to see he only had one video
Thank god that wasn't my smoke detector
The British covers are white with red on them, so nice
Why is this the only video on this channel?????
"This book will consume you"
"I've been talking about to to everyone. That's how obsessed I am."
"The Cosmere"
"It's freaking addicting"
"...is Kaladin"
Me: oh my goodness how are you so calm
Me: I would be screaming
Me: You mentioned Kaladin you are great
Me: it's true everyone's so annoyed at me because I keep talking about it
Me: HOW ARE YOU SO CALM
thank you so much for making this video
Same. 😢😭 I cant control myself while talking about this stuff or else I would be making reviews instead of watching them.
Awesome review! Thanks to your review I've ordered this book and I will start asap! Can't wait, I'll let you know how I get on. Subscribed x :-)
First and only book review ;-;
I love all his books. Jonathan Mayberry's also super awesome too. ever read anything by him?
The Stormlight Archive is my favorite series of all time. Yes, I know there are only two books out right now, but come on. Both books are over a thousand pages long!
Bro, I just wanted to say I really dug this video. I have read these and am glad to see others enjoying it as much as I do. Once you are done with these. If you don't feel like tackling the Mistborn Trilogy just yet. Please. Please give WARBREAKER by Sanderson a try. I loved it. Enjoy reading. Take my likes. And my subscription. Keep up the good work!
nice video i'm reading the book now i like it so far
It is a punch in my heat after reading that passage
I had passed on Sanderson's books initially because I thought they were just more overly complicated, convoluted fantasy novels with unrelatable plots but I've been hearing a lot of great things about his work. That coupled with the fact he finished off Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series which is a series I've been in love with since 2003 means I'm probably going to start reading what he's done. However I'm unsure of whether I should start off with his Mistborn trilogy or dive right into Way of Kings. I'm tempted to because of its cover, but what do you think I should read first? Anyone else reading this comment have any thoughts?
Damn you! you made me check and even take down my smoke alarm !!
I was wondering if you need to read the entire series or just this one book cause all 10 seems intimidating
Are you going to do anymore reviews?????
you gotta do words of radiance man
szeth is the assassin that weeps as he kills.
I understand your pain mate I read Words of Radiance in about four days lmao.
Hi!I'm trying to find that EXACT copy. A large pocket version. Where did you get it? Thanks for all the cool vids.
+Rov Hållet You be able to find it @ Barnes and Noble or Amazon!
+Doppelganger Books is that the mass market paperback version or just the regular paperback? because i thought that the regular paperbacks were split into two, and that one seem pretty large to be a mmpb
I think the large paperbacks are just the "Paperback" version, and the smaller paperbacks are the "Mass market paperback" version.
How's is this book compared to Song of Ice and Fire. I can't seem to find any books that come close to it.
read wheel of time it is amazing
read this book but after completing its predecessor in cosmere. i can guarantee you its way better than Martin's work. start with 'Elantris' .
I see book addicts I subscribe
How did you get such a big edition of the book? I ordered the same mass market paperback and mine is too tiny! I just might return this one. Where did you get that big book?!
White Walker I saw a copy of Words of Radiance in that size at Barnes and Noble. So they probably have a copy of The Way of Kings in that size as well.
Rambles64 Yeah I looked for it after this. Turns out the one I was having was the mass market paperback. This one is the standard paperback. So I returned mine and just bought the hardcover from Amazon. I'm a bit sceptical about that spine holding that big paperback for long. Thanks though!
Awesome review!
Thank you very much!
Subscribed! Keep it up man..
Thanks!
Have you read WoR?
the fucking book is soooooooo good I already read all version read it it is so good
keep making videos ! :)
Um. Thee best review. 1 and done huh🤷🏽♀️
good review
I can't finish watching your video. The smoke alarm was way too much. I actually got out of bed and searched my apartment listening for the sound. I almost went to the store for a 9-volt. Then I tested to see if it was on the video. Right at 1:29.
wow so handsome and such good taste in books ^_^ also i adored this put
this book is amazing
my favorite book :)
looks like you got lost in words of radiance and never came back lol
BEFORE I WATCH: Is this review Spolier Free?
How long does this book take to read?
***** ok thanks
***** I love Fantasy and I do listen to audio books a lot because For the mistborn Trilogy the books are so small not the length of the book but you know what i am talking about it gives me a headache to read for 3-4 hours so the Mistborn Trilogy i listen to the audio book but this book looks bigger so i might buy it and read it
i would say this book is great but wow you must have some crazy patience because its 90% torture scene of the main character and finally at the very end it picks up its well written but i think he went into way too much detail and way too long about beating down the protagonist as of 500 pages in im like ok i get it this guy is in a crap situation get on with it already.
***** There are many fantasy series i have read that still build characters but do it way faster and get the plot started right away. This is just Sandersons style its not exactly a bad thing but its not for everyone i could def see people putting the book down if they cant get past the really boring parts in the middle it drags for a very long time with nothing happening.
You have spoilers in your video dude. Should not have mentioned details about characters.
Good book review...but why were talking about brandon's, you kinda look like brandon t jackson. No trolling js
Nooo this is your only video
I hope his future books have black characters in them.
Lol what? He has plenty of black characters. Or more accurately, dark complexioned characters.
Why does it even matter exactly? Diversity for the sake of being diverse is just perpetuating a fraud my dear. If you want stories with characters based strictly on the color of their skin then maybe you should shoe horn your self into reading only works from black authors.
I know this is an old post, but Sanderson has a diverse cast in his books... he just isnt good at describing that in the book. For instance in the Stormlight Archive the majority of people of Roshar are inspired by Asian aesthetics with another ethnicity mixed in; something I personally didnt pick up on as I was reading, but found out through the fandom from when they asked Sanderson in person. So yeah POC characters are present its just hard to tell when he describes them in the story, because he makes them sound like tan Caucasians.
@@TMAXXPUNISHER my post was way too old for you to have been answering it
@@tulekahju lol this post was two years ago. meaning people that are answering me after such a long time care more about the "issue" than I did.
Most of Brandon Sandersons novels revolve around class struggle which is the basis for Marxist theory. In the Stormlight universe the culture the story focuses on is the Alethi or the people from Alethkar. In their society people with light colored eyes, blues green hazel, rule over people with dark colored eyes. The nobility all have light colored eyes while the common people or working class have dark colored eyes. This is obviously a thinly veiled allegory for "white privilege" which in our society is a thinly veiled tweak of marxist theory in which evil capitalists (white people) oppress the common worker (people of color) Sanderson is a Social Justice Warrior. I would not recommend his work to anyone.
dontbeshady411 he is also a mormon and claims to be heavily inspired by the bible
Now we are supposed to be politically correct and not talk about classes, because that would be Marxist.
Also, don't read Charles Dickens because he is an SJW.
Rarey have I read more ignorant commentary in my short life.
So you dont recommend this book JUST because it has similarities to racial problems...
Wade Gruber SJW?
41k views on your first video. Why did you stop?! We need more male booktubers lol
I just finished this book and I freaking LOVED it! Such an amazing story and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. :) Good review, I can't wait to hear your thoughts on future books.
I stumbled across this review. You seem to do a good job of reviewing books, so I am curious why there is only one video on your channel?
If you're looking for a good series, check out The First Law trilogy. You might like that too.
Personally loved WOK more than WOR.
I love these books as much as you. It's great to hear such enthusiasm, almost as much fun as reading these books is listening to someone else talk about them, sharing the joy.
I avoided Brandon Sanderson for the longest time based on how cheesy the covers are... But I agree, his books are amazing!!! It's unfortunate that the American editions of his books have such bad covers!
I like it.
Same artist though
The redone digital WoT illustrations are actually amazing.
Never heard of "dont judge a book by its cover" ? :D
me too, also i read the description in goodreads and thought if i was bored by the description, i would be bored by the book. It just has so many new terms, concepts and plots it's impossible to adequately summarize it.
Finished this book five minutes ago. I was blown away. Starting WoR tomorrow. Completely agree with you
what happened to your videos?
"This book will consume you." I've never read a more accurate description of the Way of Kings. Great review!
Hey,I really loved The Way of Kings, and am literally reading Words of Radiance right now.On another question, didn't you say you co-starred in Hindsight? I just watched the trailer, what episode are you going to be on?
Read Steelheart his SuperMan/Heroes turned bad book .. it's just incredible, I've read 75+ sci-fi books in my lifetime and it's one of the best.
Brandon Sanderson is the author that finished up the Wheel of Time series when Robert Jordan died. The fact that he was chosen for that... well it's a great honor. He did an awesome job of finishing it up. If you haven't read the Wheel of Time series, then you should!
I just finished the book. Really didn't like it that much. I didn't think it was that interesting, and lots of parts were repetitive or useless. Why does everyone rave about it? Looking for a real explanation.
Read mistborn next! As soon as I finished the trilogy, I ordered the way of kings. Brandon Sanderson blew my mind on hero of ages.
I will! I had so many other books I wanted to read after this series but my brain is asking for more Bran San xD
Doppelganger Books Started out with the Mistborn series myself, before i read any of his other books, it blew my mind, one of those series that just feels right from the first page. After that i pretty much did a non-stop read of Sanderson books. Might want to try an audiobook, if u can focus on the story while doing other things, you'll be able to get through pretty fast. And Sanderson books have a great narrator.
Always good to see more fantasy fans on UA-cam.
Looking forward to seeing your January book haul and some more reviews.
Will you be joining the #YearOfCosmere read-along too?
Hell yeah man, my body and mind are ready for this epic voyage!
Funny thing is I didn't even realize it was the "Year of Cosmere" and I had coincidentally bought all his Cosmere books except Warbreaker.
please make more videos also you should read the book series called the monstrumologist
i love the edits between the highstorms explanation... it IS hard hahaha awesome
Man I wish you made more reviews
third book announced for november 14th :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
I know it has been 4 years but I hope you have changed the battery in that smoke detector.
mcdouche2 I fell for the fly.
Hit page 400 tonight really enjoying it so far
