- Prince Harry has reportedly offered to return as a working royal on a limited basis for the duration of The King's ill health.
According to Kate Mansey, assistant editor of The Times, the Duke of Sussex would be willing to step in an attempt to reconcile with his father.

I honestly don’t think that it’s just some members of his family who wouldn’t be keen on that idea, I don’t think that large swathes of the British population are too keen on him these days nor perhaps a fair few politicians.
He has trashed his family and he did that whilst his grandfather was dying and whilst his grandmother was ill and grieving for her husband too. Even those in their 30’s were shocked at how he betrayed his family’s privacy….for a buck…in Spare and Meghan’s curtsy in the docuseries was just the final nail in the coffin for so many people.

I think that's nice of him to offer to help out, but I think it would be a big mistake for the Royal Family. A person doesn't insult one's family then change overnight - unless they want something desperately. Harry spoke of unity of family during illnesses, but then "the proof is in the pudding" - i.e. Meghan's refusal to let her father see his grandchildren, which I think is Meghan being a really cold fish.
I am sure Charles could fly to L.A. anytime and meet his grandchildren. It is not Meghan's and Harrys fault that neither he and Meghan nor their kids get armed protection while in Britain. They need to take care of their security.

I don’t understand all this talk of not enough people to do Royal duties. I think it probably started with the media (as so much does) - and that gets everybody else running with the idea.
I think the King’s idea of ‘slimming down’ was to get rid of all those ‘balcony Royals’ who showed up for grand occasions - I don’t know if any got anything financial for whatever they did.
Look back to when Elizabeth was crowned - there was Elizabeth and Philip - the queen mother was on the scene, but I think she was more of a hindrance than help, but she was determined to stay in the limelight. There was Princess Margaret, but I don’t know how involved she was with all her patronages - we tended not to know before social media. Mountbatten tried to get in on the act, and he could do so then because people didn’t know what he was like, but he wasn’t actually royal - he just meddled and wanted to be a kingmaker.
I can’t find any others who had any sort of work schedule. If the Queen and Prince Philip were on tour, there was nobody to go out and about doing things. When Prince Charles got older, he had to plough his own furrow - nobody was rushing forward with a role for him, but the work that he started doing leading to The Prince’s trust was awesome - yet he got no family support - in fact, some were even against it.
Now there is The King and Queen; Prince William and Catherine; Princess Anne; Prince Edward and Sophie; the Duke of Gloucester and his wife. The important thing is that they do not seek celebrity status - they work hard, and some of them (especially the King - as you would expect) spend a huge amount of time on work that isn’t in the public eye - and William will be doing more and more of that.
From all that I have heard (apart from the scandal), I don’t think that Andrew is a great loss, he used his status for his own benefit. Fergie has stuck by Andrew, but I don’t think there’s a role for her as a working Royal.
Harry has blotted his own copybook badly. Now. I know people can change, but because of all that he has said and done recently in running down the Royal family, there’s not a role for him. He said he wanted to walk away, and it looks as if, now all their efforts to set up on their own have come to naught, he wants to come back. People might accept him as a person, but he doesn’t have anything to offer now. All he had before was Royalty - well you can’t run a smear campaign, then be welcomed back with open arms. He does seem to think that royalty and celebrity are one and the same thing. A working Royal is only useful if they actually put in the work. Before meghan came on the scene, Harry was mostly tagging along on William’s coat tails.

Camilla is not Harry's stepmother by any stretch of the imagination. He was 21 when Charles married his long time mistress. She brought her aging father to the household so those kind of dinner conversations with total strangers around must have left a very negative memory for both Harry and William.

As an American, I’ll never fully understand the concept of Royal/noble families.. that said, the British family appear to be decent folks, actually engaging in good works with their great wealth. I’m not sure that there is an American equivalent… lots of fabulously rich families and celebrities but nobody exhibiting qualities of character that could be called ‘Noble’ or Royal.

You have to understand Monarchy first, in Britain's case a constitutional Monarchy.
The Uk King or Queen is constitutional Monarch that is head of state equivalent to your President except political power is divested to Parliament. The Uk military swear allegiance to the monarch not Parliament so in theory a dictator cannot gain power in the Uk unlike the USA where a dictator like Trump has the potential to become a kleptocratic dictator like his buddy Putin.
If the Uk abolished monarchy then we would need to elect a president head of state. The last time Uk deposed a King, Charles I, we ended up with the dictator Cromwell who banned Christmas of all things.

Maybe Charles can forgive his son but King Charles needs to push him away. He can be a family member but stay clear of The Monarchy. So much damage because of him and his wife’s actions and world wide whining and cruelty to the Monarchy and the country I don’t think they are an example that the UK wants to present. At least Andrew stepped back and kept his mouth shut.
