Thie. Begining and the "you don't know what a scarecrow is" and this South London train.part made this session legendary..this should the sound for a Luther season...
met him for a brief moment after a gig with sbtrkt about 2 years ago and i can honestly say he's the most modest guy! told him he was amazing & his response 'you realise I'm not sbtrkt right?' man sbtrkts album would have been nothing without sampha
His voice is absolutely angelic and beautiful. So unique. And how that mic drowned out so much of the background noise without a pop filter I don't know.
It's a cardoid mic probably. also it has a foam cover over the whole thing. Also a pop filter doesn't do shit to remove background noise I have no idea where you got that idea. A pop filter is used to smooth some of the harsh vowels like P, K or something
abeautifulhaze I just watched Timmy prayer oh my goodness the 1st I heard I wasnt feeling because I was in the wrong mood cuz I just heard this song n some his live so I get up the later the next day I was UA-cam bumping I wasn't looking at the fone n the auto-play just played anotha song I had to flip the fone over man my shit was erupting 🌋🔥🔥🔥like a Samsung 7 now I can't get the 🔥out of my mind I replayed it bout 7x in a row I'm so glad I found some new 🔥 just look at the length of my comments.. thank you
I wish I could express myself musically this way 😭 the chords progressions, notes, etc., everything beautifully expresses/articulates pain. This is art for sure.
Kanyeislife that's what's wrong with today, people think artist need to be the best or ranked higher then someone else. If he really wanted to he could be on the radio and a sell out. But he actually cares about the music and it doesn't matter if he is the best as long as he keeps making beautiful music
I have to come back to this every so often ....to cry. To be in awe...to just experience what I felt when I first heard this. This is more than music to me. This is healing me with each listen....thank you, Sampha.
I've been listening to this song for 6 months now. Sampha is so underappreciated, he deserves so many accolades. I think we should just create an award ceremony to appreciate people of his genre.
God I hate that fact that him, Solange, Brymo and so many others arent at the awards and being praised as much as the ones I think suck ass, their messages are pure and I just love it and fear they will die out, I will need to buy their albums to have forever even in death, just toss it in my casket
+Michael Watkins True. People need to start creating platforms because the way the media is right now if you're a talented minority waiting for appreciation you're going to be waiting forever.
sampha is so soulful and creative, his piano composition as well as his lyrical composition sums up to be one of my favorite songs of the year, maybe even of all time. so beautiful. you're gifted, sampha. just know that.
What i love about this guy, is the originality in the sound, his voice, the way he uses the piano to accentuates. He is in a genre all by himself, no one sounds similar. Truly a genius honestly. The emotion and agnst in the music just reaches out to me and mkes it so that the music is timeless!
Me and one my best friends used to sit in a parking lot after a day's worth of hanging out and would just blast this song and smoke a couple newports when we were 18 or so...man as depressed as I was back then I do miss those days..imma come back and visit you soon dog
kinda same. this song literally holds a special place in my soul. sometimes i find it crazy that i've come out of that really bad mentality. im better now but still going through life as it is :) we all miss those days but i hope u dont visit that depressive state again. u may embrace or reminisce but anything is better than being sad and empty, all the best to u
Dayummmm this time 2 years ago I was going through a bad break up , boom fast forward now I’m going through more stuff it seems like it never stops. Contemplating my own life even not too sure if I even wanna stay and watch this world crumble to pieces . Peace to you whoever you are , can’t even shed any more tears feels like I ran out. Numb to it all
I love this video, especially the lengths where we got a view from his back. You don't see his face, so all the emotional impact comes strictly from his voice and the piano. All the movements are subtle. They hardly take your attention away from his melodic playing of the keys and the smooth intensity of his vocals. With that being said, I also love Sampha. Everytime I press play, it's like walking into an empty auditorium with him performing on stage alone. He has this "Frank Ocean" esque aura where he can really convey himself in a way that seems incredibly personal. It's like stepping through the door of Narnia with the way he grips you out of your own world, distracts you from your surroundings, and let's you bask in his. He makes 4 minutes not FEEL like 4 minutes...
[Verse 1] Magnetic lights in the blue-high haze A magnifying glass upon my face It's so hot I've been melting out here Made out of plastic out here You touch down in the base of my fears Houston can-can-can you hear And we both had to harness our pain Close it and hope it decays Oh in heaven I'm up and away, up and away [Verse 2] I loved those mornings, when the suns up Smoking in the lobby, waiting for my name to pop up (YEAH) And usually I'd run home, and tuck the issue under Living with my worries, I didn't really know what that lump was My luck, it's so hot I've been melting out here Made out of plastic out here You touch down in the base of my fears Houston can-can-can you hear And we both had to harness our pain Close it and hope it decays Oh in heaven I'm up and away, up and away (up and away) [Verse 3] You didn't know what the scarecrow is It's like outer space in his inner ears And like a blossom you opened up And you understood why you could not love It's so hot I've been melting out here Made out of plastic out here You touch down in the base of my fears Houston can-can-can you hear And we both had to harness our pain Close it and hope it decays Oh in heaven I'm up and away, up and away (up and away)
I just discovered this album and no one knows me and this this song are literally the best thing I have heard in a while. He's a pure creative, vocals, musicanship, performance, everything is right.
This is ridiculous. He's a poet. I feel exactly what he's saying. This is my favorite artist. I've been patiently waiting. He's back. And the wait was well worth it. I'm inspired to be all I can be listening to this dude.
"You touchdown in the base of my fear" Sampha always been good but after hearing this and Timmy's Prayer he's about to become 1 of my favorite artists if the rest of the album is built like this.
Crazy how I’m from the hood and this how I be feeling ..full of anxiety from seeing so much death and feeling so much pain…but the real craziness is I see every race in the comments saying they can relate ….showing pain is universal and we all share that same emotion and should be more kind to ppl frfr …Peace 7
Man I'm going to pray for this brother.. I looked up the meaning of his lyrics because I sensed a lot of pain in his voice... 😢 many blessings to you brother. Never know what people are going through.
Sampha, most underrated/underappreciated global singer right now.
Ethan Henry hes been a great help past few weeks
Khalid up there.
2 years later he still is , it's sad
@@ibieiniid4240 but I'd get behind what the OP said. As for khalid? On a global scale? Idk I think your opinion got in the way there bud
@@Looseskru idk what that means
I love the end of this performance when he says "up & away" as the train goes by. Perfect timing.
All 💘 that love
divine timing
This is the kind of song that obliterates playlists. You don't want to over play it, but nothing else sounds good after this ..stuck! Masterpiece ❤️.

agree. all of my favorite SBTRKT tracks feature Sampha.
totally agreed
real talk! he made it what it is.. only reason I listen to that album is because of him... and jessie ware but mainly him lol
Agree. I like a lot the production made by sbtrkt but since they don't collab anymore, sbtrkt has fallen down... sampha is the talent
Bonnor Caker a memory for life
His voice is absolutely angelic and beautiful. So unique. And how that mic drowned out so much of the background noise without a pop filter I don't know.
I was thinking the same thing
It's a cardoid mic probably. also it has a foam cover over the whole thing. Also a pop filter doesn't do shit to remove background noise I have no idea where you got that idea. A pop filter is used to smooth some of the harsh vowels like P, K or something
Kabalyst My fault I recalled incorrectly. Thanks for the correction. Any advice for a blue snowball mic to help reduce background noise even further?
microphone is a shure sm7b cardioid

You can learn
The beautiful thing about music is that you will learn to express yourself musically in your own way, that no one else can replicate
Give him time and he will be the best artist out there
without a doubt
he already is for me :)

Wow, his voice sounds exactly like the song 😭
Sampha gave me the feels
[Verse 1]
Magnetic lights in the blue-high haze
A magnifying glass upon my face
It's so hot I've been melting out here
Made out of plastic out here
You touch down in the base of my fears
Houston can-can-can you hear
And we both had to harness our pain
Close it and hope it decays
Oh in heaven I'm up and away, up and away

I loved those mornings, when the suns up
Smoking in the lobby, waiting for my name to pop up (YEAH)
And usually I'd run home, and tuck the issue under
Living with my worries, I didn't really know what that lump was
My luck, it's so hot I've been melting out here
Made out of plastic out here
You touch down in the base of my fears
Houston can-can-can you hear
And we both had to harness our pain
Close it and hope it decays
Oh in heaven I'm up and away, up and away (up and away)
[Verse 3]
You didn't know what the scarecrow is
It's like outer space in his inner ears
And like a blossom you opened up
And you understood why you could not love
It's so hot I've been melting out here
Made out of plastic out here
You touch down in the base of my fears
Houston can-can-can you hear
And we both had to harness our pain
Close it and hope it decays
Oh in heaven I'm up and away, up and away (up and away)

Rediscovering sampha getting me emotionally prepared for 2022
Just heard this song for the first time today and fell in love, especially with the last minute and a half of the song. So beautiful
Love the way this is shot, image of London with the Overground in the background and Sampha's voice over it. Amazing.
Sampha singlehanded help me through some tough times… he just gets it made me feel seen
This is the first song that I got to listen from Sampha, such a beautiful piece, so full of soul, full of passion. Hoping for more from the man
I just discovered this album and no one knows me and this this song are literally the best thing I have heard in a while. He's a pure creative, vocals, musicanship, performance, everything is right.

One of the greatest works of art humanity has ever created.
That start of the keyboard note at 0:24 is art ❤
Just beautiful and the musicianship is so well crafted and intuitive, there's humanity here, pure genius

How can this guy be so touching with his music?! he's great, I feel him. He's becoming one of my favorites.
That train couldn't have been planned. Went by perfectly at the end.
What a beautiful setting to perform this song. Peaceful, just the pill I need to swallow this morning. Thanks Sampha
Once I heard him on "Something goes right" by SBTRKT a few years ago, I knew he was gonna make great music! His voice is deeply soulful...
As soon as I heard the end of the piano riff and saw the tube past by I knew this was one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen in my life
Best version no Capp ❤️💕
Soooo good!! Thank you Sampha. Giving me so much life as I work late tonight! Your words are painted poems, your voice is my favorite summer drink.
I keep coming back just to listen to this
Can’t go a week without listening to this at least once. So soothing.
Such a unique sound
