On this show, we discuss investment opportunities for Kenyans in the diaspora and why diaspora Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies, SACCOs are becoming key investment vehicles for investing back home. With the case study of the Kenya-USA Diaspora Sacco, we will highlight where the dollars sent home by Kenyans living abroad are being invested.

Construction has been around since the Roman times. Why don't you form Construction companies from the Hundreds of Civil Engineering students graduating from Kenyan Universities?
Procure modern equipment and techniques to do high quality work for small and complex projects. You can enlist or buy medium sized western companies for a good price in this economy and bring in best practices, work etiquete, & tech transfer???? ........Instead of paying the Chinese companies (4X) the project cost. ...Their PREDATORY ECONOMICS will kill Kenyan Economy. When they EXHAUST the place they will leave like the locusts!! Stupid & CORRUPT politicians can't think this through...They're busy stealing.

I don't know who is going to occupy these houses while you are abroad? How about if you people could find projects that can empower and inspire the youths, so as to make this country a better place in the coming future. All I am saying is, Bring the Brain Gain back home here in Kenya. Show us what you are doing for humanity instead of buying homes.

I can save money at a bank in kenya, and could also get a mortgage/construction/refinance loan from the Kenyan bank so I'm yet to see a benefit to banking my money at this sacco - same benefits either way. Except that this sacco is a somewhat new venture that i'd be trusting my heard earned dollars to ...and the risks that go along with that.

This is nice but would be worth something if they were invested in things that would fuel the economy i.e. private industrial manufacturing park for African-made products, where everyone who invests owns one product division. @@diyside There is a lot of truth in what you say my fren! I especially like when you say that you will die of rejection if you live for acceptance! So, so true! I have lived in the US for most of my adult life and for many years I never thought I would go back permanently to Kenya for some of the reasons you mention. I am now 4 years from retirement and my opinion has changed drastically over the last 10 years or so. I agree with you that people need to get over the "sijui wazungu nini" craziness!! I have had the opportunity to live in Europe and Latin America too and I can tell you that there is no race or ethnic group that has a monopoly on stupidity, cruelty or corruption. These are human problems that manifest in different ways wherever you go around the world. People need to stop investing their emotions so much in the past and put their efforts more into the present opportunities and the future possibilities. This for Black people in particular no matter where they are on the globe! I would, however, encourage you not to be so quick to write off Kenya. There is a saying in my community which says, "No man cuts himself so badly as when he cuts his father". I have learned by living abroad, (and just in time too!) that there is really no place like home. There comes a time when one is abroad, when one deeply longs to reconnect with the place of one's birth. Even after generations. Notice how African Americans so deeply long to make some small connection with the "Motherland", even after generations of having lived here. I urge you not to give up so quickly what is your birthright. Kenya has her problems for sure, but she is my Mother and I will only ever have one mother! I have worked in healthcare here in the US for many years and have witnessed old people dying in nursing homes with few friends or family to hold their hands in their final hours. I resolved that for me there would be no more tragic end than to die in a nursing home so far away from the land of my birth. As you grow older, you will begin to feel that tug on your heartstrings that is your Mother calling you home! I hope so for you! The US does offer opportunities that are hard to come by in Kenya. Take those opportunities and begin to build yourself a system in Kenya where you can come to reconnect from time to time! Don't give up on Her yet!
