I personally love my kinect, it's nice to be able to command my system with my voice, and record clips by simply saying "xbox record that". I also think the voice commanded on off feature is good to. Things like face scans, in game voice use, etc, make me happy to be a proud owner of kinect, and xbox one.

Just sit down first with the controller already next to you and turn on that way. • voice commands are not a novalty in this day and age • you burn more calories actually doing proper exercise like going for a jog or even an hour walk. If it's boring then listen to an audiobook or something. As far as I can tell, the kinect doesn't offer anything revolutionary about the system. It just seems like it only offers a bunch of superfluous features that don't actually improve anything, just serve as flashy unecerssary garnishing
I'm going to be getting an xbox one soon and didn't know if I should get the kinect with it or not but after watching this video I 100% agree with you on that. I always use my controller to turn on my xbox, video chat seems pointless, I don't do the Xbox fitness or kinect games or anything like that, etc. I'd rather pay $150 less and out that towards games. $350 and $500 is a huge difference and not something I'd want to pay to get a few more features that I'll probably either never or rarely use.
Cool, I indeed ended up buying an Xbox One without Kinect. I'm asking for a Kinect 2.0 for Christmas for two main reasons: Xbox navigation (like voice commands), and as a webcam for things like Google Meet or Discord calls.
One thing left out of the infrared part. Is that not only can you control your tv box you also gain control of the tv itself. I can change the channel or volume. And control streaming services like netflix ( pause, play, etc.) By voice. And THAT ALONE makes it worth it.... think about how annoying it is to have to turn on a controller just to press pause or play. Kinect solves that.
Well the best feature to use kinect is the "record that" command, its the best thing ever to record how you just killed a friend online without having to pause or pres any button, just great, and the other commands go just fine too.
RIP Kinect, mine stopped working a couple years ago and I’m thinking of trying to fix it, but I mostly just used it to pause shows with voice commands. The technology is pretty cool, it’s a shame they never took advantage of it. Most games never even touched it, and it had so much potential for cool features like tilting/shaking controllers, much like you can on ps5 now.
If your still aren't convinced one way or the other this is what you do. 1- Don't listen to any more opinions. 2. go to best buy, buy the kinect and keep your receipt. 3. connect your xbox system to your main AV system (your biggest tv usually). Run your dvr through the xbox as the xbox was designed to be connected.4. play games(be sure to try xbox fitness), watch tv etc for one week. be sure to learn all controls you can do while watching live tv or dvr (pause rewind and so on), at the home screen and in games. 5. Make your decision. if you like it keep it, if not return it. I wouldn't have an xbox one without it now that I've experienced it. But that's my opinion.
Ik I'll for sure use the kinect to switch between things simultaneously. And to navigate the dashboard faster than normal. Also the automatic sign in thing is cool.
Even though the Kinect 2.0 is discontinued, I'm still planning on buying one. I want to have fun with its camera that can do infrared and some other things, have that cool Cortana voice command and turning on the console by saying "Xbox On".
I bought the last gen kinect and it wasn't as responsive as I know this version will be and I still used it so I can't wait to get my Xbox One and Kinect 2.0
ONE reason you WILL use Kinect: Coronavirus in 2020, pandemic, social distancing enforced, kids are not able to go out of school and play and everybody has to stay inside. Bring Kinect back! We should start a petition!
The kinect only cost $75 to make so that would be £45.06 and that the price of a game* i is worth it considering that the kinect one was so expensive. uk.ign.com/articles/2013/11/27/teardown-reveals-xbox-one-costs-55-90-more-to-make-than-ps4
1) Xbox one can do 1080p games, because the Kinect reserved 10% CPU is released, allowing the CPU to focus on the thing it was supposed to be designed for. 2) Kinect is being quietly swept under the rug by MS themselves. 3) 60% of commands are not actually recognized, voice or motion. 4) I'm not some cracked out junkie whose lazy to use the controller, which if you say people are "married to", then you know I could really care less about your gimmicks right? 5) Only has about... 5 games that would work... Somewhat. 6) I would rather get more RAM, GPU and CPU power for the $100 you make people waste their money on this. 7) A useful product, however not at all to the gaming community. "even so you're going to use it". Really? After calibrating I unplugged it day one and sold it for parts. Made my money back while it was still worth anything, lol. This is so old but looking back at this now it's so funny to see them sell out to a product that's dead now. On a last note, during E3 when they were showing the Kinect and what it does, every command was done with a button in the guys pocket, It falls under false advertising because it does not work as well or fast as advertised.
you can list 100 more facts that's not going to cease Xbox One sales, Some people are hardcore Microsoft fans and wouldn't buy a PS4 like it would kill them, Vice versa for Sony. Even though the PS4 is more powerful (A tad bit more, Imo) i still want an Xbox one more, I like entertainment and gaming in one package. If the PS4 was'nt doing well would you buy an Xbox one?
Tory Green I am sorry but recently an interview with the creator / director of the Resident Evil games said according to him, that the PS4 and Xbox One are so near identical that they don't differ that noticably that you could say "PS4 or Xbox One is a little more powerful. And in turn; It makes sense.. Why? It's still industry. Both are marketleaders pumping their products up, people buy it and in a few years everyone will agree to the fact that both consoles are very identical in hardware power and graphics output. The reason I would go for Xbox One is.. I have always stuck with Microsoft's game consoles and the PC and never with a playstation, even though I used to have playstation 1 and 2 only for the reason of games like Final Fantasy. End of the day though? It's what you feel best and most comfortable with, not what the herd of sheep wants you to get and have you follow them ;))
John Blues Ah that is very interesting and great news!, i never knew that interview occurred (probably because i don't care for RE) but all what you're saying is true man, At the moment the playsation has a bit of an edge but its not gamebreaking or worthwhile and probably wont last for too long IMO but yeah man, thats awesome, go with what you want
John Blues Did you really just say you have stuck with Microsoft... And PC.... And PS1,2? Hey I have all 3 and nothing will EVER beat PC. PS2 > Xbox, Xbox 360 > PS3, PS4 > Xbox one. PC (considering you upgrade) > everything. With what I have been seeing with these 2, I'll start swapping between them each release instead of wondering which is better. Equal power? No, I'm sorry, as a former xbox ambassador, it does not. Not only is the PS4 hardware better it doesn't have to deal with 2 dashboards... On a weaker console. Watch, these consoles can't even run games properly, with the right resolution or framerate than a PC, they both want to be PC but not even a year in neither console can run games on high/ultra/extreme settings? Lol I give both these consoles 5 years and that's being generous. If you have a PC buy a controller, this Gen of consoles is a complete failure. I hope they learn their lesson next time.
You are completely right except for when I use my kinect the voice commands it works about 85% of the time, the voice commands are really nice actually but I still don't think that outweighs the negatives.
Cool. This video is done, now how about Xbox One: 7 Reason You WON'T Use Kinect? (Hint, the recent unbundling announcement... see, I'm not hating, I'm just pointing out... lol. I know, this vid is outdated but I just wanted to make fun of the title.) Donna Tingle A Windows 95 computer or Windows Vista (Which's garbage, face it.) works better, that or a state-of-the-art microphone... oh wait, they might not even allow players to use 'em... we'll see with time. Will I ever end up buying a XB1...? Time will tell as well... now don't come up in my face and say I will, I hate when people talk for me when they don't even know what I think. Microsoft, be smart and consumer friendly and you'll see people will rush to get your console even more than you'd think. Gamestop having better XB1 demand with the recent kinect unbundling for E3 announcement is just a start. Don't screw it up now. I love the X360 and I'm just waiting for the best moment to jump in the XB1 craze, if there is one. All up to you, Stephen, Spencer, Phil... or... or, whatever's his name, you get it. You want a standing ovation at this year's E3? Well then do it gaming focused rather than a Console-TV hybrid. ;)
Ya...none of that really works for me. The only thing that would really make a difference is the "Xbox on" thing. Until I realized that hey, you know that controller you use for playing the games on your Xbone? You can just press the Xbox button and it turns the console on for you!
Well I am massively impressed with this new kinect. Surprisingly it was the Xbox fitness that I found most interesting, it really does know when your muscles are being pushed and it really does give an accurate hear rate.. I dunno what magic is going on in there, but I wasn't expecting it!
Well, 5 of the 7 reasons I can't/won't use the Kinect simply because I play my Xbox on my computer monitor on top of my desk with my chair pulled up to it and my TV is on it's own stand to my left.
From what I've seen... I don't think I'll ever need kinect... unless it's absolutely necessary for game play ... it won't affect my fifa or 2k or Madden or gta or assassins creed. So I'm good **excuse me if I made any typo**
I just got a kinect today and i not very impressed by the results. However i am impressed by what Msft plans on doing with It in the future. BTW the guy in this video moves a lot. ..kinda funny. I guess he used his kinect a lot.
This video was not very helpful. I understand I'm posting this way past its release. However, I've tried to find specific examples of games incorporating the Kinect, but with no luck. I see reasons like the ones provided here as givens. Things we all know and expect from the Kinect. Useful or not, they are the functions everyone knows. The one example I was looking for, silly as it may be, was to see if a game like Magic Duels would incorporate the Kinect in the same manner that the Live Video did, last gen's webcam essentially, for Magic Duels of the Planes walkers on 360. That cam replaced your profile pic with that of the video feed. A simple thing like would at least be a reason to get the Kinect, but alas, I've found no info regarding that. I have no trouble turning my system on and signing in manually, and while a Kinect may be useful and interesting for those tasks, they aren't exactly reasons to get the device IMO.
What is the sight ratio of Kinect in order for you to properly use it. 3 feet? 4? 5? What if you're just living in an apartment and you living room is not that very big, would you consider getting a Kinect? It happened to me. I got 360 with kinect but I can't use it specially the dance revolution game. :\ Don't get Kinect if your living room is not that big.
Wondering here, since I'm about to buy an Xbox One: Does the Kinect device function without an internet connection? Would love to have the "Xbox On," "Xbox, Record That!" commands and auto-sign-in without needing to be online. As I have no connection at home.

Mike.... Jane.... if the NSA is pointing a gun at you offscreen, blink quickly.
Point 3 is barrel scraping of the highest order, none of the other points are making me want kinect in my life in any way either.
You totally convinced me i mean like if i say exbox on and it turns on that would be totally awesome
It still is, and always will be creepy having a microsoft owned camera pointing at me at all times while I game D:
Also the automatic sign in thing is cool.
nah fam I'm good lmao
Larry Whitney lmao
My only problem with kinect after that is that I sit at my desk to play on my xbox. I don't think it'd work too well seeing as I'd sit so close to it.
Well now that Microsoft has officially killed the Kinect, and nothing ever really came out for it, I can say I'm glad I never wasted my money on it.
Even though the Kinect 2.0 is discontinued, I'm still planning on buying one. I want to have fun with its camera that can do infrared and some other things, have that cool Cortana voice command and turning on the console by saying "Xbox On".
Wow so this didn’t exactly age well
Lol yeah
So i said "Xbox, give me da mod menu boi or i slap that pickle chin head ah boi." And it didn't work.
I think than the xbox1, it was made for bigger living room, or stan room
This was what made Xbox an option different from the rest
I use my Kinect1.0 enough already especially with LoveFilm and loading games. It's great to shout from the kitchen while cooking a bacon sandwich.
Oh, hello! Fancy seeing you, other person of excellent taste.
Someone was playing FIFA and someone sweated and the ref said well have no more of that mate or we'll send you off
Watching this in 2022 🤭..I use mines to hold the door for the laundry room
I bought the last gen kinect and it wasn't as responsive as I know this version will be and I still used it so I can't wait to get my Xbox One and Kinect 2.0
Just found one at goodwill for $4.
Ahh the days of making ppl turn there Xbox’s off mid game
Classic
Cool. This video is done, now how about Xbox One: 7 Reason You WON'T Use Kinect? (Hint, the recent unbundling announcement... see, I'm not hating, I'm just pointing out... lol. I know, this vid is outdated but I just wanted to make fun of the title.)
Donna Tingle A Windows 95 computer or Windows Vista (Which's garbage, face it.) works better, that or a state-of-the-art microphone... oh wait, they might not even allow players to use 'em... we'll see with time.
You can just press the Xbox button and it turns the console on for you!
that music has the same drum as some AOE2 song
I will be getting one today for my Xbox one to try it out! Thanks.
unlucky...
I want to see the OX crew doing a fitness video workout.
"Track the controller"
But the hole point of kinect is that you are the controller...
Fuck Kinect. I thought the 360 Kinect is backwards compatible with the Xbox One.
Because it captures ghosts
Now if only I was getting one before next year :/
That's pretty unfortunate :( .. 2 nights for me :D
Well it is something new I suppose, Ps4 isn't anything new really, only pure computing power which I have x5 on my PC rig.
The only time I ever hear my friends use the Kinects is for "snap party" but that still sounds handy
1:50 ayyy my name
I bought my Xbox one with Kinect, but it was not worth it.
Well I am massively impressed with this new kinect. Surprisingly it was the Xbox fitness that I found most interesting, it really does know when your muscles are being pushed and it really does give an accurate hear rate.. I dunno what magic is going on in there, but I wasn't expecting it!
This is great guys! Thanks for supporting the hard work that's gone into the new console.
So I'm good **excuse me if I made any typo**
scanning QR codes to get dlc is convenient so you don't have to enter the 25 digit code
I just got a kinect today and i not very impressed by the results. However i am impressed by what Msft plans on doing with It in the future.
BTW the guy in this video moves a lot. ..kinda funny. I guess he used his kinect a lot.
ill still bend down to get my controller, i would be a very lazy person if i didnt press the on button.
I love my Kinect and it is amazing
What do I do if I don't want people to hear my convo with my mates lol. I know I just have to get a mic, but still.
Can't you just press the button on the controller to turn it on like on the 360?
Well this didn’t age well!
Wondering here, since I'm about to buy an Xbox One: Does the Kinect device function without an internet connection? Would love to have the "Xbox On," "Xbox, Record That!" commands and auto-sign-in without needing to be online. As I have no connection at home.
yes
