アーケード版としては2作目となる横スクロールアクションゲーム「ゴールデンアックス」の続編。前2作からキャラクターが一新され、レバーとボタンの組み合わせで出せる必殺技が「回転アタック」「ダッシュアタック」そして同時プレイ時に可能となる「サイクロンアタック」と増え、「システム32」の性能により魔法のビジュアルも大幅に強化されている。また最大4人までの同時プレイが可能となり、ステージ途中には進行コースに分岐点が登場。全5ステージで、分岐を含めると総計7ステージとなる。
ストーリー:
剣と魔法で邪悪なモンスターと闘ったマジカルファンタジー「ゴールデン アックス」。その物語が伝説になった時代に、またもや不気味なモンスターたちが地上を支配しようとしていた。スタンブレード、ドーラ、ゴア、リトル･トリックスの4人の戦士は、人々を苦境の中から救うために、新たなるヒーローとして闘いに挑もうとしていた。彼らの活躍で、再び世界は平和を取り戻せるか。

Like it's legendary prequel, 1989's "Golden Axe"; 'Revenge' is sideways scrolling beat-em-up set in a traditional fantasy world, in which the evil 'Death Adder' has arisen to take over the lands. The game supports simultaneous four-player gameplay, with each player taking on one of the game's characters. The four available characters are 'Sternblade' (a barbarian warrior), 'Dora' (a female centaurian), 'Goah' (a giant with a dwarf sitting atop his shoulders) and 'Little Trix' (an agile, oriental-style warrior).

攻撃力は低かったが、自分にはトリックスがお気に入りでよく使ってました。懐かしい。

The Golden Rule of any classic Beat’em Up game: always choose the character with the fastest attack. Trix is definitely the best character in the game.

I could beat this on 1 quarter in the arcade. You had to use Trix for his magic gave you health back. Still fun to play.
The run is doing everything I did in the game. Flame the boss twice then do a super jump dive.
I could never play with other players at the machine for it threw off the patterns of the enemies.
And what players might not have know was when you did a 3 hit combo attack on an enemy which direction you held the joystick on the final blow determined the final attack. I though it was cool.
