After months in a hospital bed, when my brother picked me up, he said "You will need to take it easy from now on" since I was now disabled. I looked at him, smiled, and said "Get busy livin', or get busy dyin' "
I just want to say that I absolutely love the community that comes by my channel and this is a perfect example why. There’s something about a good movie quote being dropped at the perfect time. Thank you so much for sharing this because I absolutely love using movie quotes in everyday life, especially something that impactful. Cheers to you and yours and I’m glad to hear you getting busy livin!!
@@JJreactsTV I agree about a good movie quote and how impactful it can be. After my accident, when people would ask me how I kept going, I would quote Finnick O'Dair and say 'it takes 10 times longer to pull yourself.together than it does to fall apart". And the quote that really helped me through it all is one from the movie The Count of Monte Cristo from 2002. 'Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment and be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm and shout as you did in Rome. 'Do your worse, for I will do mine'. You would be surprised how much strength that gave me, every. Single. Day. I can't wait to see what you will react to, next.
DO NOT watch the XXX vesrion of The Count of Monte Crisco, unless that's your thing. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Use it or lose it, that's the old saying. Nice shirt by the way. P.S. try these movies: The Fugitive (Harrison Ford-Tommy Lee Jones), Alien/Aliens with Sigourney Weaver, Fury with Brad Pitt, also his Fight Club, any Clint Eastwood movie, The Untouchables, just to name a few.
I think you may have defined hell perfectly without meaning to. "They're gonna put you in a well...underground...doing taxes." Also, fun little bit of trivia: The book of the Bible where Andy chose to make space for the rock hammer is the book of Exodus. That's the story of the Israelites fleeing slavery in Egypt.
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest pieces of filmmaking that's ever seen the light of day. I've seen the movie at least 20 times, and watched probably 25 reactions, and it still holds up. The novella it was adapted from, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, is also one of my favorite pieces of contemporary literature. Probably the best thing that Stephen King ever wrote.
I already watched it again since I uploaded it lol. So much stuff I missed and also now noticed with the help of the community. Next step is to read the book! Thank you for chatting and hanging out
The usual companion movie to this one, having the same Direector, Composer, Setting, and also based on a Stephen King story is "The Green Mile" but from what you said gets to you more, I'd also suggest "Stand By Me" (again, based on a King story)
Great reaction, i love this film. Also love your chess set. If you ever do get the chance to get on a plane and do some travel like you said, you could come to the UK and see the real life figures from your chess set. We have some in the national museum of scotland and the british museum in london :)
$10 for the rock hammer in 1947 = $141.55 today $35000 for Mr Hadley the disgusting guard, in approx 1949 = $495,436.77 today $370,000, 1966, Andy's bank withdrawl = $3,604,804.94 today
It can be overwhelming seeing the rise of the dollar like that over time. Thank you for sharing the facts though, I really like when I see stuff like this, and the movie facts along the way. Thank you for hanging out!
I just love that Andy straight up started defying the warden from the jump after he realized he could do something to prove his innocence. He still didn't know how but there were ways and options. He found ways to do things throughout the movie and explored how to actually accomplish them. For years. Even after spending a whole month in the hole for calling the warden obtuse, and knowing that Tommy was killed by the warden, he still didn't shake. He basically told the warden to fcuk off. Not gonna lie at first I thought this was irrational from his part. But Andy is built different. He's the perfect embodiment of hope in a prison.
Hell of a way to put it Mr Witcher. He could not be broken. I’m not sure if it was because he was innocent or just has unbelievable willpower but he’s a beast. I watched it again late last night and it was so good again lol
There are so many, I guess they're called "easter eggs" in this movie. The opera piece Andy plays is about two women planning a con against one of their husbands, Count of Monte Cristo which is about tunneling out of prison, the bible verses, the movie they're watching with Rita Hayworth is about two mafia men... so many little tidbits but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.
There is really almost an endless list of things that pop up in the film…so many good people commenting and pointing them out. I went back and rewatched it recently and so much stood out to me
Red finally got approved for parole because he finally gave a real, sincere answer and not the same old thing they hear over and over from every other prisoner.
Funny you mention the new bills. I was working in a gas station when then new bills came out, and we started seeing counterfeits within a week. It's kinda hilarious until you consider how much money was wasted on designing and making the newer bills.
lol okay! I’ll be waiting !!! This is one of Kings best adaptations. I love this one, but Dolores Claiborne is a tad better in my opinion. Kathy Bates gives god tier level acting alongside Jennifer Jason Leigh
That old prison building is a few miles away from my home. My brother-in-law is a guard at the new prison that was built next door to this old Reformatory. It is just open for haunted tours now in Mansfield, OH. It's a shame, though, that huge oak tree totally succumbed to lightning and wind events that they had to turn it into pencils to sell to visitors of the Old Reformatory. I do HOPE the copyright and editing issues didn't burn you out of reactions.
That’s awesome! I love coming across filming locations in real life. Not at allllll with the copyright stuff…busy few weeks coupled with that made it seem worse than it was. Labor of love this thing is 🤓

so many good details: Red says it's a shitty pipe dream that Andy wants to get out and then Andy crawls out through a shitty, sewer pipe. When Red starts to get hopeful, harmonica music starts playing When Brooks exits, the camera angle is looking back at the prison, but when Red leaves, the angle is out. If you look it up, people have complied a lot of these. It makes the movie even more amazing on rewatching knowing them.
In the short story, Rita Hayworth comes to prison. Under the rock was the gun and he used to kill his wife and her lover. The Director thought it was to much of a negative ending so they changed to this.
Christmas. Films: Black Christmas, the original POV slasher film. Buddy Cop comedy Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. Scrooge - 1970 musical version - only film that depects Scrooge in Hell. I figure you will get the main Christmas suggestions so here are some others

You did an exceptional job on this one. Took a little extra time, and did it right. Nice..👍
Wow thank you, comments like this mean the world to me
In one of the rare cases where studio interference actually helped, the film originally ended with the bus ride. The studio insisted on their reunion.
I agree. I feel like an open ended ending would have flopped after all they went through together
The original Stephen King story actually ends on the bus, but - also - the test audiences thought the original ending needed improvement.
"I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams." for me encapsulates a movie in a single line as well as any example I can think of.
It was one of those movies where the narrating was poetry
I think you'd love the movie "The Count of Monte Cristo" 2002. It was based on a book mentioned in this movie by Alexandre Dumas.

"I hope."
The best final line of any movie ever.
Perfect way to end it…with hope
Such a classic!! Great reaction!! I say the warden is a mix of Ramsay Bolton and Walder Frey!!🤣🤣
Oh Lord Frey…them pies was tasty 🫣
I like your narration of the movie :)
🤓🤣 I tend to do that sometimes 😣

Awesome, thank you so much for recommendations! I haven’t seen any of these yet!
When Red tells Andy that going to Mexico was “shitty pipe dreams”, a foreshadows Andy crawling through a pipe of shit to escape.

They used Morgan Freeman’s son picture as the young “Reds” prison picture.
