    Haunting Adeline pisses me off because it was so poorly executed and written. Then all the booktok folks were cramming it down our throats like it was a work of art.
    Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been reading fanfiction for a looong time. I’ve read and loved some dark stuff/dead doves, but the execution was careless and the two main characters were insufferable.

I thought the Mafia dark romance thing was strange enough…sizzling hot guy woo’s and wins a beautiful woman and even when she finds out that he’s a drug dealing mass murderer and skilled torturer she still loves him! WTAF 😳. Tbh though I have liked a couple of them because the romance is so sweet, but why do they have to be jam packed with such graphic scenes.     I have a question actually! In terms of dark romance, is there anyone that has any recommendations for generally good ones? I have no real preferences because I've never read dark romance but am a little interested (can trigger warnings be included in these recs, please?). I just know that I'm not big on massive age gaps, cheating, or non-consensual activity being sexualized :}

      born darkly by trisha wolfe (tw: murder, torture, mention of pedophilia) - this is about a criminal psychologist and a serial killer who fall in love
      mindf*ck by st abby (tw: murder, torture, one chapter has pretty graphic SA but it's not sexualized) - a good for her story about a girl who revenge kills the men who left her for dead and she's dating the FBI agent who is working her case
      still beating by jennifer hartmann (tw: kidnap, torture, SA but not sexualized) - a girl and her BIL are kidnapped together by a serial killer and have to cope with aftermath of their harrowing experience
      butcher & blackbird by brynne weaver (tw: murder, torture, minor cannibalism) - two serial killers who murder other killers cross paths and decide to do a yearly competition where they hunt down the same victim and whoever kills them first wins
      these are the best i've read! i for some reason really like serial killer romances lmao. none of these glorify non-consent. any SA mentioned is demonized and sex between MCs is desired.

    I have trouble considering Haunting Adeline dark romance because.... there's really no romance in it??? It's just all SA and worse.
    I think my definition of "dark romance" might just be.... Grey Romance or something lol.

      i think the best dark romance is when the darkness comes from something outside the relationship or if the characters are equally unhinged/matched

    I loved How High We Go in the Dark but omg I also high-key agree with you on the pig story being the worst. When I saw people saying that story specifically made them cry I was like oh no, it's gonna be sad, and then I read it, and I just didn't get it! I was not sad! I was mostly confused and also it kinda made me laugh tbh.
