      @Claire Tipping Using the Thermostat is much better. As long as you know what temperature you are comfortable at say around 22.

      @Claire Tipping you can do this by using the frost button as an on and off. Then when it's on, set temp to 30drgrees

      Keep pressing the up arrow button until you go above the temperature that is shown on the display, then the heating will come on :D to turn off go under the display temperature by pressing the down arrow.

      Totally agree. I just had this installed this weekend and being used to a Worcester Greenstar, that was easy to manually over ride and adjust for holiday periods, this is an exercise in anger management. Baffled by why it makes you have to programme 5 times when you may only want 4 (on/off morning & on/off evening). I have to adjust my "off" times to 5C to ensure i doesn't come back on. Maybe I'll calm down after a couple of weeks use but if not, I'll be looking for a new controller.

    Thank you so much for this video, as someone termed it on a previous comment, this “war crime of a thermostat” 😂 has been driving me insane, since moving into my new house. Thought I was so stupid for not understanding how to programme the thing. Can’t thank you enough for posting this, as you have restored my sanity and probably saved me from bankruptcy with current gas prices, as now the heating won’t keep coming on when I’m not at home or at some ungodly hour in the night. I can truly believe this thermostat is the one boiler engineers get the most questions about!! It’s like the Da Vinci code!

      The time you set and the temperature you tag to it.
      Don’t set the temperature too high during times you want the heating off.
      E.g. 08:00 - 22c (This will turn the heating on at 8am if the temperature Is lower than 22c and until the temperature reaches 22c)
      10:00 - 15c ( This will turn the heating off IF the temperature is above 15c and IF the temperature stays above 15c)
      16:00 - 22c (This will turn the heating back on if the temperature is below 22c and until it reaches 22c)
      Note: Between 10:00 and 16:00 if the temperature drops below 15c the heating will come on until the temperature gets to 15c. So it is important if you do not want it to come on during an OFF period. You set the temperature to what is suitable for Your home.
      Some houses loose heat more than others. So some homes will never drop below 15c a newly insulated property and some can go well below 15c like a draughty old farm house or cottage.
      Failing that:
      Put it in the bin or call the heating engineer to change it for something better.

      +Cheryl Brownlow I lost my manual and an electrician accidently lost the settings. For 6 months I have been controlling boiler manually with the unit. Our boiler is in an outhouse and do not fancy going out at 6.30 am and bedtime. If you press the up button it will light the boiler and if you press up and down together the display will dim and be off. you can tell if it lights by the flame symbol. I am 80 this year and all for an easy life.

      Argh, Sorry on the gender mistake. I always make that mistake when talking about babies and dogs too if that smoothes it over! If you program all 5 time zones like the following: (I recommend this is the time you get up and go to bed on average) for example 1 = 0600 - 2200 (22 degrees or whatever is comfortable for you) 2 = 2200 - 0100 (22 degrees or whatever is comfortable for you) 3 = 0100 - 0400 (22 degrees or whatever is comfortable for you) 4 = 0400 - 0430 (22 degrees or whatever is comfortable for you) 5 = 0430 - 0600 (22 degrees or whatever is comfortable for you) you could then press and hold the light/frost icon for 5 seconds as it will come on when you want, press and hold again and it will go off when you want. *Note when you press and hold this button this will enter frost mode, all temps you programmed for every time slot are ignored and will only come on if it goes below 5 degrees in the house or wherever the thermostat is located (pretty much never unless you live in a fridge). When you press and hold again it will come on and go back into the programme times the 22 degrees we used in the example.
      So if you wake up at 0600, press and hold the frost button the boiler will come on and make the house 22 degrees. if you stayed in all day the house should stay 22 degrees all day. and never go off.
      So if you wake up at 0600 and press and hold the frost button the boiler will come on and make the house 22 degrees, if you then go to work at 0800 and press and hold the frost button the boiler will go off and not come on all day unless the house drops below 5 degrees. You return home at 1800 and press and hold the frost button the boiler will come on and make the house 22 degrees. You then go to bed at 2200 and press the frost button the boiler will go off and only come on in the night if the house drops below 5 degrees.
      Sooo. if you did all the above in the day, but you had guests over and didn't go to bed at 2200 and stayed up while 0100, when you go to bed at 0100 press and hold the frost button and it will go off then.
      imagine the frost button like a switch. The times and temps you have set in the programmer are like the electricity. You have made sure electricity is always at the switch (by telling it you want it 22 degrees all day and night) when you press the switch electricity flows to the boiler. when you switch it off the flow of electricity stops. SIMPLE.....
      This is not ideal and you can buy thermostats that can do what you need. This is a work around for THIS thermostat.
      If this thermostat is not working for you it was down to poor selection by the installer not the thermostat. It would be like an electrician putting you a timer on your sockets to help save energy but you needed power there all day.

    Well done on the video it cleared a lot of things up.Why this unit dose not have a simple on and off is beyond me. Also what do you do when you go on holiday? by the looks of it you have to reprogram everything to 10 degrees. I tried the frost button but the timings just over ride it. Would not recommend this unit to anyone (unless it was kanye west can't stand him)

    I am completely confused. You can only programme this thermostat twice. I don't understand what programme 5 is for. Surely there should be 6 programmes so that you time it to come on at least 3 times a day. If I set programme 5, it can come on but as there is no programme 6 you can't set it to go off.

  • @MagnusRawstron
    @MagnusRawstron 11 років тому +1

    But how do we over ride the programming and turn the heating off and on only when it is needed, i need heating off and on at different times each day, and them times change each day depending on weather conditions. I need to be able to manually turn the heating off and on.

    This is without a doubt the WORST Thermostat EVER! I've just moved into a flat and found this stupid thing. After three days I finally figured out how to programme it. But I absolutely hate it. Like so many others have asked, why don't they just provide a simple on and off button? IN addition to the complicated programming, the thing doesn't really communicate with the boiler. It shows the flame symbol, but the boiler only comes on for a few minutes and then switches itself off, despite not having reached required temperature. This thermostat should be banned. Thanks for putting up the video though. At least I know that I'm not doing it wrong.

      To turn it off just press UP and Down buttons together for 3 seconds and the display will turn off witch means that the thermostat will not activate the boiler. When you want to return to the settings just press one of the buttons UP or Down. If the thermostat does not respect your programming then you have to change the RF code because you have another device like this in you vicinity and it`s not communicate properly. Here is a video on how to do it: ua-cam.com/video/KwSEDw99Juc/v-deo.html&ab_channel=SalusControls or ua-cam.com/video/LVWDNhH1vu8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=SalusControls

    Would be better if they simply added an off function rather than lowering the temp to turn it off. This thermostat has only two sets of on and off sessions. Numbers 5 would just keep boiler on till it would come on anyway at numbers 1. Designer of this piece of crap should be sent to Guantanamo Bay.

  • @tuamae

    Design seems terrible to me. 5 possible time settings?! Why not either have 4 or 6. That way you could have either 2 or 3 on periods....rather than 2 on periods and......a wasted 5th period.....

  • @redmanraffa
    @redmanraffa 7 років тому +3

    Great video to explain a needlessly over complex bit of kit. I find the 5 programmes pointless, it would be far better to have 6 then you have the option for 3 different on periods during the day. The only point of the 5th is to keep it running up until your first programme when it would come on anyway, seems entirely inefficient to have it coming on and off all night when a 3rd period before bed would likely get the property up to a nice temp that will last roughly until it's back to morning.

    Like so many here, I too found this video incredibly helpful. I delayed watching it for a couple of years because I just assumed that I wouldn't understand it and I couldn't bear to add more frustration on top of a full tank of it, trying to work out this thing! I asked the installer to sort it out for me. He said he'd done it but roasting temperatures and stone cold radiators at random times of the day and night suggested otherwise....
    I finally asked another installer to fit me a simple dial on the wall. He wanted a huge fee to do it so I left it again. Winter started to set in and I couldn't go through all this frustration again so I finally sat down to watch this video. I was amazed that I understood it. I did what was said AND IT WORKED!!! You've saved me a few hundred pounds for a new dial, you've saved me from being defeated and paranoid that the modern world is out to frustrate and confuse people. I can't thank you enough!

I understood how to change the figures, but it's no good knowing how to change your 'set point temperature' if the manual doesn't explain what you're looking at in the first place and what your SPT actually is! And it's all very well being able to turn Frost protection on and off, but what use is that if it doesn't tell you what frost protection actually is!

    HELP! Although i have set the programmes... i cannot override the heating. It keeps switching on. What can i do??

    • @DynamicThings
      @DynamicThings  2 роки тому +1

      If you manually override the pre programmed temperature it will only keep your selection until it gets to the next programme ON.
      For example: I have pre-programmed 2 of the available 5 time zones.
      Slot No.1 to come ON at 8AM pre set at 19 degrees and OFF at 9AM pre set at 15 degrees.
      Slot No.2 to come ON at 10AM pre set at 19 degrees and off at 11AM pre set at 15 degrees.
      During time slot 1, I wake up at 8:15AM and feel that 19 degrees is not warm enough and I manually override the thermostat to 22 degrees.
      The new manual setting of 22 degrees will only stay in memory until the programme reaches the end of the time slot which in this example is 9AM and will revert to the pre set 15 degrees.
      If I leave the house at 9AM the heating is set back to 15 degrees and in MY home the heating will be off as the temperature in the house doesn’t drop to 15 degrees or below.
      I return at 10:15AM and the heating is on time slot 2 and warming the house to my pre set temperature of 19 degrees until 11AM. I feel like this is too cold so I manually adjust the temperature to 25 degrees! The house gets up to temperature (25) at 10:45AM however this manual set temperature will only stay in memory until 11AM then revert to 15 degrees.
      This can seem like there is a problem however the programmer is doing what it was designed to do. (Not the best).
      A lot of people want ON/OFF functions on their heating systems however it isn’t energy efficient and those controls cannot be fitted alone by installers due to regulations in place.
      There are multifunction thermostats that have a more intuitive design and allow users to switch between modes easier.

    • @DynamicThings
      @DynamicThings  Рік тому

      If you lower the temperature below the room temperature the flame symbol should disappear and the receiver near the boiler should turn off. If it doesn’t then they may be a communication problem.
      Rarely…if someone has the same thermostat in a house nearby….they can also be turning your heating on and off………. You can set a new address to get over this issue but it is a lot more in depth.

    • @DynamicThings
      @DynamicThings  Рік тому

      Okay, I am curious! how did this turn out? Pot luck when something like this happens. You would need to pair the thermostat back up with the receiver.
      The standard safety response would be don’t do that.
      The frugal money saver in me would be doing the same as you.
      Yes there is a way to bypass the remote. There is a receiver with a switch on it that says. Auto/Manual/Off

  • @DynamicThings
    @DynamicThings  11 років тому +3

    If the Receiver has lost communication with the thermostat you could try re setting the jumper switches to a different pattern. This effectively changes the address code of the thermostat and receiver. NOTE: If you change the jumpers on the thermostat you WILL need to change them to the same pattern on the receiver with the power OFF.
    I would not recommend doing this unless you have experience with domestic electrical systems and Health and safety surrounding it.

      Sorry for a late reply.
      There is a few scenarios. The control interface that you use to set the temperature and the receiver are not synced.
      The receiver isn’t wired to the boiler correctly.
      The controller is out of range of the receiver.
      And rarely….there is another thermostat or transmitter that maybe interrupting or causing issues. (Actually controlling your heating)

      Just press UP and Down buttons together for 3 seconds and the display will turn off witch means that the thermostat will not activate the boiler. When you want to return to the settings just press one of the buttons UP or Down.

      It is a common question lots of people ask.
      The thermostat was an early cheap and easy energy efficiency regulation ‘gap filler’ so it isn’t designed to do that.
      It isn’t intuitive but you can do it. There are ALOT of people who still just want to flick the heating on or off still.
      There are other manufacturers who have sliders on their controls which give you a notable click and light when on or off.
      Internet thermostats have got a lot better too these type allow you to easily and intuitively operate your heating controls.
      Or you could install an on off switch but it contravenes building energy efficiency regulations so you won’t find a trades person whom is reputable to do that.
      You can achieve a great deal of control but it comes down to budget.
      I wouldn’t suggest spending a fortune replacing this type of control but you can swap it up for something a little more refined and current now. Honeywell, Danfoss, Siemens are great quality manufacturers and offer a super wide range of products.
      This is for others to read through too so sorry for the looooong reply. 👀

      What does the 'heat control' on the actual boiler do if this unit controls the temperature. On the boiler there is an icon of a radiator and a dial that goes from a thin line to a fat line.

      @DynamicThings  Рік тому

      The temperature on the boiler sets the temperature that the water in the radiators gets to. Radiators are designed to have a certain temperature of water flowing through them to give off a certain amount of heat.
      The controller you set at 22c for example is the temperature you want the room to get to. The radiators and the water temperature in them heats up the air and surfaces to achieve that temperature.

  • @iancoe3044

    Does this impact the hot water temperature through the taps? We moved in to a new house and it was set to 21.5 degrees. I went through and dropped all the temperatures to 17 degrees and now while the boiler says the tap water is 60 degrees, the water temperature out of the taps is stone cold.

    Am I being thick or what? Why are there 5 programmable options? Surely most people have 4. 1) ON in the morning, 2) OFF in the morning, 3) ON in the afternoon, 4) OFF at night. Where does the 5th one come in?
    This video shows:
    1) ON 6am at 22 degrees, 2) OFF at 8am at 10 degrees, 3) ON 4pm at 22 degrees 4) OFF 6pm at 10 degrees, 5) OFF 10pm at 10 degrees. (So there are two OFF programmes together?)
    If i wanted to maintain the sleep temperature through the night i would just set programme 4) OFF 10pm at 18 degrees! SO I still don't see where 5) fits in?
    Admittedly, I am 66yr old women living on my own but what am I NOT seeing here? lol

    Lucy, it is possible that the unit is being controlled by another device in close proximity to yours. You should change the RF code on the receiver and the sender next to the boiler. there are pins numbered on the back of the receiver unit, to change them you carefully pull out as many pins as you require to make a new code, such as 321. On the sender unit there will be a small component visible with numbers on the same, it will have little switches you can push down called dip switches. Dip the ones labeled 321 for this example. WARNING there is 240v of electricity in that area so please, please use caution by turning off the electrical supply and double checking with the appropriate tools. If you feel you are not up to the task please contact your engineer. You won't be touching any components but just as a matter of safety.

      Hey, sorry for the late response. Did you get a solution?
      I would have suspected:
      A) relay in the receiver that brings the immersion on was not working.
      B) The immersion was burnt out, the contact that the relay ‘should’ operate was defective.
      C) It was wired incorrectly.
      D) your not allowing enough time to heat up the mass of water in the tank.
      E) This list is now long.
