What the numbers on carabiners mean

Every carabiner certified by the UIAA or CE must be marked with the major axis, minor axis, and gate open kN minimum breaking strength statistically determined for that carabiner design. But there could be other numbers as well. See the full video for a comprehensive look at carabiner markings.

Trad climbing certainly requires a good understanding of physics...if you don't the penalty is rather harsh

how does ANSI fit in? Do they just have a another set of standards for certification? Would you also trust something certified by them?

Is it Andres or Andreas? I spell mine the latter but pronounce it as the former
