Gearbox whine F30 BMW 330i

The supercharger kind of high pitched whine is heard when in sport or sport plus mode and transmission in in sport. It is a persistent wailing noise and some reading about the ZF gearboxes indicate it as a well observed issue even though not many mention failures related to this. It is certainly not a sound one can ignore while driving and the persistent wailing resembles a sequential shift gearbox in a rally car.

This also happens with the 6MT’s. So I agree it’s definitely safe to say this isn’t a whiny transmission issue.

It does not seem to come now. But i plan to change the transmission oil and while doing so examine the condition of the drained oil closely.

sorry. It is still present and is in the same state. Come when the revs climb and goes down when you ease of the gas. The bmw techician says it is present even when the gearbox is in neutral.

I've this problem too! When i pull hard it start whining! Did you solved it?

No. It is still present. The whine or wail increses as the revs climb and ceases as they drop. Have been driving with the sound for close to 40,000kms now. Its been the same. Had my transmission oil replaced too but no perceptible difference to the sound.

I still have the whine when driven hard in sport mode and manual. It amplifies with revs and goes away as the revs drop. Slotting it into neutral and reving up also gives the sound. So could be something other than the grearbox.

@@HariNambiar Interesting.Did you ask in BMW? So you drive with it for a year and csr still works perfectly? Is it getting worse?

@@peters3965 No, it is not getting worse. It has stayed the same for over a year and I have put on a lot of kilometers. Btw, BMW says it is normal to have this sound

@@HariNambiarI had this whine on my 70k mile M135i that I picked up 2 months ago.. last week I had the transmission serviced with new oil and new sump/filter and the whine has gone.

I filled the zf fluid 150-200ml more than recommended and the noise is almost gone.
