I do hope the farmers/harvesters and their families are fairly compensated for this. I somehow can't imagine they'd see the same sorts of profits the designers do, though. Great video, I enjoy 'geeking out' on topics like this - thank you 😊
You can be very sure that the do know this. May I point out that the farmers don't drop fashion designs and they do not live in Europe or pay European rent or taxes.
Wow, this was fascinating! I am much too broke to ever even consider purchasing the yarn…ever. Lol! But I would love to just see and touch it once. As I was watching, the question popping up in my mind was wondering how much the actual harvesters make from this. They do the most difficult work so I hope they are compensated well but somehow, I doubt it. 😔 That is sadly a common injustice of this world. Thanks so much for these interesting and educational videos! I hadn’t even heard of this before (likely because I’m too broke to know it even exists)! 😂
😂😂😂 I wish I was able to afford the yarn for the video. Picture was all I could afford 😂. I was wondering the same thing about the people who harvest the wool.
Thank you so much for this informative video on vicuña. I’m lucky enough to know someone in the fashion industry who gifted me a vicuña garment. It came in a beautiful wooden box with a colorful and informative book on the vicuña industry. I occasionally pull the garment out to admire it but I’m scared to wear it. It is softer than alpaca and the color is much more golden than I’ve seen from alpaca fleeces.
I appreciate you sharing your research and educating the fiber community about this impressive yarn! Sustainability is something in trying to bring more of into my life and while I could never afford Vicuna its interesting to learn about. I do wonder about how much the local indigenous people are paid for their work though. As for the hunting of the Vicuna...mind-boggling, absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever.
Check out Paco-Vicuña. It’s a slightly cheaper vicuña alternative. Essentially, they’re primitive alpaca genetically more closely related to vicuñas but domesticated.
Thank you for this🥰 I hate poachers 😠 thankfully these wonderful animals are being helped by wonderful people who understand the value of these animals🥰
Thanks for al your informative videos. Loved hearing someone explain many things I learned as part of my education , growing up in the Caribbean by My Dad who was a Historian , and taught myself and my siblings many things not taught in this country.. Ninette Bird- The Caribbean Wife- Tx
I don't got income like that, either! 😆 But, for those who do, I think supporting traditional vicuña wool production is a wonderful thing. And it looks like the conservation efforts have paid off, and the vicuña have rallied. Thank you for the video!
OMG lol this into is cracking me up. I am building my own personal yarn store because of my yarn obsession... I feel called out. 🤣 I do not have any Vicuna though.
Thank you again for another great video. I had no idea this was out there and it really is great learning more about the different fibers that we use in our crafts. I love your channel for the content you put out- looking forward to the next one!
Wha!😯 So expensive! Beautiful but... I would be afraid of ruining it😕. What about yak fiber? Would you do a video about that? Or spinners who work with pet fiber, for making mementos? The information is out there but isn't always collected in a single source like this video🙂. Thanks for the information.
Wow. I've never heard of this yarn. When you gave the per kilogram price, my mind thought about street pharmaceuticals. Smh. Thank you for these informative videos! 😮😮🤣🤣
Why are humans so stinking greedy? Why can't we learn to work alongside nature instead of trying to overpower it?? I'll never understand. This yarn looks like something I'd like to try out, but to be honest, if I ever had the money to afford enough to finish a garment, that project would be under heavy guard 😆🤣
Wow your so knowledgeable i didnt know this in depth about luxury yarns 😪If you can see in my profile that sleeveless jacket the yarn was chinchilla yarn in the shop was 3.30pound or something like that for 50g I got 6 🫣 you do the math I love luxury & experiencing yarn but not make me broke so I left it to sleeves-less 🫣🤣🫶🏽

I was thinking the same exact thing!! Unfortunately that's how most industries work. The people who do the most labor get paid the least.
Same!

@@ladyhawk5245 and they don't have free healthcare either. Europeans are such ignorant spoiled snobs.

Considering how much I spend on yarn each month, I could afford to buy one ball, maybe. It's so beautiful!

It's amazing how much the population has increased!

Oh lawzylawd. I've never wanted a skein of yarn so badly in my entire life, just to say I have it, lol. This was a great video Alysha, thank you!
I just want to be able to touch the yarn. That's all I want, 😂

🤣🤣🤣back alley yarn deals.
Wow they are soo cute, I understand the price tag, yep no chance of me buying this one, I'm also broke 🤣🤗
I couldn't even afford to buy it for this video 🤣
Is vicuna pill resistant?
I actually don’t know. But for the price it better be lol
I thought qiviut was expensive. But not compared to this. 😬😧😦😮😯
This will break the bank!
Certainly not for your average homemaker
Definitely not for your average hooker 😂😂
It's properties sound very much like alpaca... Just bougie 😂
I think your description is my favorite 🤣
I enjoyed your video but please learn the proper pronunciation of the Vicuña.
I'm human. Most of my research was through reading not video.
