I’ve had 2 trailers where the metal end of the airbag has broken in half and is no longer attached to the bolt that connects to the pin.

There is a temp fix involving about 15 to 20 8inch zipone's. Align the pieces with pins pushed out and tape it together. Make a collar ( not tight yet!) around each side with 4 or five zipties. Then put 5 to ten zipties under both collars around the joint in a circle and barely connect them. Then tighten the collars until they almost snap. Then tighten the circle joint ones. Then you can slide tires 1 or 2 times to get you to a shop.

If a repair is just a patch and it’s not roadworthy for the next driver payment should not be expected. Getting dirty shouldn’t be the only prerequisite for getting paid. Anything less than 100% should be noted on pickup and drop off inspection reports.

I disagree because a driver can prevent a road call, which costs more money than a temporary fix that can allow the trailer to be moved to a shop. If I correctly fix an item, Prime pays me whatever the technicians labor book says. If I bandaid something, I get a couple of ten spots for saving Prime a road call out fee, which is considerably more. That's the way the ideology at prime works in my mind. Ultimately, I'm back on the road faster, and so it's Prime's equipment if there is no call out as well.

@@danielcbrecht I’ve also seen my fair share of bush fixes that would raise every hair on an officer doing a DOT inspection. We can’t encourage that.
I agree with preventing a road call but draw the line on zip ties and baling wire being a fix that could go unreported on a drop off inspection report. First, the temporary fix must actually work. Second, RA should be triggered to have a licensed mechanic ensure that a permanent solution is put into place. The alternative is to drive around with equipment that is bound together with duct tape, bailing wire and zip ties. That’s no way to run a business. Failure to properly report the temporary fix as such should not result in any type of reward.

@wayneuber2951 this is true. Which is why you have to report it and send in before and after photos to RA to get paid. No documentation=no pay.
