  • In this video I show how I removed the KLEEN or PAIRS System and then do the clean air mod, and connect the systems and talk about why I done them on my Kawasaki ZX9r. I also show how to shim the carburettor needle jets to allow more fuel through.
    Thanks for watching 😊

    I will put up a video at some point showing the first start up and short ride. I'm hoping, and am confident that it will be running fine as these small changes together compliment each other, as in getting a bit more air and fuel into the combustion chambers. I still might tune the carbs at some point to make sure it's set as close to perfect for these and other mods as possible. Edit : First start-up and quick ride ua-cam.com/video/IUT3HLkCgL8/v-deo.html

      Cheers mate 👍 I had no need to remove the carbs at the time so just done as little as possible to get these things done. I have not uploaded a video in the longest time in a long time, hopefully I'll get something together fairly soon, either a ride video or doing some maintenance maybe.

    Great video. I have just picked up a 98 zx6r. But the previous owner had just removed all the front fairing to turn it into a street fighter. But he obviously didn't no that he would of removed the ram air system and hadn't re rooted any of the hosing for the ram air to the airbox to make sure the float Chambers are getting the same pressure as the airbox. As after he removed fairing he said he gave up on the bike as it wouldn't run nicely. Start and rev But that's it.Bogging out all the time. So I'm just in the middle of planning how to redirect the hosing etc. And I saw this video and it's helped me ALOT. As I'll now do the kleen air mod at the same time as the hose the goes from the float Chambers ill redirect to the bottom of the airbox on the right hand side the engine. The 1 you bunged up. That way it should be all good. My question is what size hosing and 4 way plastic connector did you get to redirect the crankcase breather. And what size little air filter did you order? Thank you so much for this video. Helped me loads. 👍

      I'm glad the video helped you out bud, well worth doing these, especially to a streetfighter as it helps keep the airflow up. The internal diameter of the tubing and outside diameter of the connector tube is 16mm, I'll link the air filter I found best to use, and the connector. The tubing I used to replace the crankcase breather was just some 16mm ID Radiator hose cut to length. Good luck with it 👍

      @@HalfdeadRider hi mate. Thank you for such a fast response. Saved me from having to strip it all to get measurements then refit it until parts arrive.lol. those links are perfect. I've now ordered what I need to do the kleen air mod and also the ram air delete mod. I just hope it runs sound after seeing as I've not seen it running as it should. Only on idle and a few revs etc. But I only paid £400 for it so it's a cheap project. Wish it was as clean and tidy as your zx9r. That thing looks great. I love the blue. What main airfilter do you use.K&N? And I'm not sure what oil is best for them. Mined only the 6 not the 9 like yours but I'll imagine they use the same oil.

      The oil is 10w 40, I use Motul 7100 fully synthetic, but semi synthetic is fine to use too, and cheaper. Yes my air filter is K&N too, if you remember to, keep me updated 👍

      @@HalfdeadRider I'm hoping after I sort out this ram air delete hosing it will run good again. As the previous owner said it was running lovely before he decided to do a streetfighter build and remove the front and side panels. But the 1 hose that comes through the front hole in the frame for the ram air system, I no needs to be reading the same pressure as the airbox. But because now that pipe is just sat in the open,the float Chambers aren't going to be getting enough fuel from the fuel pump under load.only enough to idle and soft revs. So once I redirect that into the airbox I'm hoping it will run sweet again. I'm going to take it to my local garage to get them to rebalance the carbs after either way. Even if its running OK. For piece of mind. Thanks for your oil and filter recommendation. That's perfect. I'll keep you updated when I get the parts through and fitted. What's your name if you don't mind me asking?

      @@lithanuel785 If fueling is an issue as well as airflow, maybe shim the carbs as I did too and adjust the pilot jets out a small amount more than they are, maybe fit an ignition advancer too so the air/fuel mix is ignited earlier (even the 6r's were likely retarded ignition from factory for poor quality fuels in some regions), possibly some NGK iridium plugs too, stronger spark and longer life. I like the way you did it allowing it all to breath rather than blocking pair valves and allowing pressure to build up I've heard of the block off plates building to much pressure in the engine and the valve cover starts leaking , your way seems more logical , any issues so far or did it work well ?

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider  5 місяців тому +1

      Still running great mate, this way the engine has choices, and we still get all the air and clean air at that, into the engine. It certainly improves throttle response, especially as I shimmed the main jet needles too. It won't cause any problems as long as the crankcase breather can still release pressure. I'm not sure that blocking off the reed valves causes any issues, but this way, if pressure builds in the exhaust system, it could then srill pull in air. It pops constantly in run off 👍

    hey mate, lovely looking bike you've got bud. I've recently got a 2000 zx9r myself and just finished rebuilding the carbs, I swapped out main jets on mine from 170, 165 staggered to 170,175 staggered in addition to shimming the needles 0.5mm. im looking forward to seeing how she goes !
    Can I ask where you got the carbon panels on the faring sides (Not the frame covers) ? they look very tidy !

      High mate, thanks! it is a great looking bike. I have thought about a jet kit, but I don't think I will for now as the fueling of mine seems good. I may play around with the air fuel mix and see where I end up, I don't know how many turns out are on mine as that was done before I owned it. As did the carbon stickers and frame guards, the sides are a wrap that I assume was put there to cover brake fluid damage, but it looks decent enough.

    Hey Bud, where did you get the single seat cowl ? I love that design with the cushion bit.
    You still haven't managed to find another tank hey bro ?
    Is the "Kleen Air" system fitted to all Kawasaki ZX9R's or was it the U.S. and Europe only ?
    I just recently purchased another E2 bike and I'm not really familiar with it to be honest. I did notice the U.S. bikes have a "Kleen" decal on the fairing. We don't have it here in Australian models.

      Hi mate, I think it's from Pyramid Plastics, it was already on the bike when I got it, I believe they come unpainted. I gave up looking for a tank a while ago now, but when I have a bit of spare cash I will get it pulled out as much as poss so I can fill it and paint it.
      As for the KLEEN air system, the only way for you to be sure is to take the tanks off and look. You could still do the 'clean air mod' if you wanted, possibly even get plates for a Euro bike and add the pipes to connect it as I did still (but not totally necessary), as they most likely would just add block off plates and remove the reed valves.

      @@davidpierce7318 I didn't use mine in the end as the cables had no slack to fit it, they are a larger diameter where the cables go. I need to reroute mine still, and reroute the choke cable.
      Whoever fitted my cables made the choke cable go through the middle of both throttle cables. And the throttle cables go through the bracket on the brake reservoir where the clutch cable goes, I'm sure they shouldn't.
      I'll find the link to the ZX10r tube, but you'll need to sort out the cables first so you can get the slack to fit one. I took the grip off mine and put it on the original tube. Saves money too as the tube for ours is a bit more expensive than the 10r one for some reason.

      10 miles/liter is respectable for a 49-state ZX-9R E/F model. I have a buddy with a 50-state C model, he converted to 49-state by removing the KLEEN and emissions equipment. It gets about 10.5 miles/liter on highway. 49-state ZX-9Rs are only bettered by their 50-state model cousins, which started out at 12.6 miles/liter. I own three of them and each has shimmed jet needles for additional mid-range power. They all exceed 12.6 miles/liter. That I know of, it's something only 50-state California EVAP E/F ZX-9R models or 49-state models converted to 50-state specifications are capable of though.

    The benefit from KLEEN PAIR (Pulse Air injection) removal would therefore be the desire to (knowingly or unknowingly) increase significantly carbon monoxide exhaust gases then?
    Taken from any ZX-9R Owners Manual.
    Kawasaki Low Exhaust EmissioN (KLEEN) aka KLEEN - The Kawasaki Clean Air System (KCA) is a secondary air suction system that helps the exhaust gases to burn more completely. When the spent fuel charge is released into the exhaust system, it is still hot enough to burn. The KCA System allows extra air into the exhaust system so that spent fuel charge can continue to burn. This continued burning action tends to burn up a great deal of the normally unburned gases, as well as changing a significant portion of the poisonous CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) into harmless carbon dioxide (CO2).
    Air Suction Valves:
    The Air Suction Valve is essentially a CHECK VALVE which allows fresh air to flow ONLY from the air cleaner into the exhaust port. Any air that has passed the air suction valve IS PREVENTED from returning. ZX-9R.Net

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider  Рік тому +2

      Yes, but I didn't fully remove it as most do, most people block it off with block-off plates. I connected the crankcase breather to the KLEEN air/PAIRS system together, therefore mine is still functional in both cases, with the ability to draw clean air in through the filter, or filter the crankcase emission's. I gave my engine choices, while at the same time, all and only clean air is now going into the combustion chamber, I also increased the fueling to compliment this and other mods to give more power throughout the entire rev range. Thanks for watching 👍

    • @lykav10
      @lykav10 Рік тому +1

      I suppose, had I watched the full video instead of making the normal KLEEN removal assumption, I would have seen that was your clever plan. Never seen that done before. The only drawback though will be the vapor hydrocarbons entering via the check valve into the exhaust from the crankcase breather. No problem with them when they enter the exhaust and burn up, maybe some exhaust soot build up, but not a safety concern. However, the exhaust ports are the hottest part of the entire engine and could (probably will) cause the motor oil vapor to oxidize and build up on the check valve. If it creates enough carbon on the one-way check valve and prevents it from closing, in time you might have a oil burning situation on your hands where exhaust afterburn gases/flames are able to enter the crankcase breather to ignite condensed hydrocarbons that have pooled on the reed check valve.
      Something to consider or work out. Be safe and keep the videos coming! 👍

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider  Рік тому +1

      @@lykav10 Something to consider checking at some point, but should not be able to pass back through to the crankcase. If it is possible to coke up the reed valves and keep them open, any potential back pressure should go the easiest route, through the small air filter hopefully.
      That was changed to a small K&N cone filter too, much better than the one used in the video. Anyway, next time I'm pulling the bike apart I will investigate and remove the reed valves to see their condition, would be interesting 👍
