Thank brother great video you saved me lol I just bought mine and had a lot of water in the gasoline tank so I cleaned it and did what you did runs like a new one now!!! Cheers 🍻
went through all this with mine low rev issues etc done valves carbs everything which usually worked as old girl always throws a rattle if left standing too long :) but had same issue again and this year changed coils for hell of it and its like a new bike now.......mine always hesitated and bogged down at 3-5k also took ages to come off choke. cured at last good luck
I have a 96 took it apart to check carbs which was clean, & the gas gague isn't responding now please help & it's also been sitting for 2 years now so if you see more issues on the way please lmk thanks
Hello Ade, Guys, Gals, I have a 01 ZX9R, been sitting in the garage for approx 8yrs now, I want to get it running again. Changed oil/filter, air filter, checked carbs appeared like the ones in this video (good condition), three attempts at removing rust/jelled fuel from the tank (clean now), however; fuel pump does not appear to be kicking on bought a new relay to replace the one under the back seat, will install today to see if that kicks the fuel pump on. Any thoughts assistance would be appreciated. Thank you!
Wow sounds like you have some work on your hands Ken....Ill be honest I've never had electrical problems (apart from the alarm glitch) but sound like it just going to be a process of illumination ...checking the power is getting to the places it needs to be and then the parts are good too, to my knowledge the pump has power to it all the time as its a pressure Syphon type so as soon as you turn the key you should here it strike up if its empty as they are quite loud....Maybe if you are getting power too it run some WD40 through it as it can get fur;d up like the crabs...Of course you can simply use an external source Syphon method to strike it up, but that's not very practical going done the road 😆
@@AdeReeves Thank you for taking the time to provide the detailed reply, very much appreciated. Once I installed the new relay and confirmed that the pump was getting power as you suggested, I replaced the fuel filter and she fired right up. Thank you again!
😉@@kensmith5410 no problem ..us old ZXR guys have to stick together .. have a look on facebook too i'm a member of a couple of forums and they have a lot od experienced people on there ..

Great video. About the vacuum unit at 2:19, what does it actually do? I am planning an engine swap for my zxr750 with zx9r engine, and noticed these hoses on there. I read on some forum they are for some emission bollocks, but I am not sure if they can be left out. The workshop manual is not very informative on this topic either, just describing that whole setup as "Vacuum Valve Switch"... If it indeed is some emissions crap, I can just not bother with it.
Hi...From what i can see they go to two tubes under the headlight that are used to sucking air under initial acceleration .... it all seems a bit over complicated and unnecessary to be honest but you can hear a they are defiantly gathering air when you throttle back... I really don't know if this is emissions related and you said or a primary route until the ram air system gets going ....but i would say as long as the pipe can draw cold air from somewhere all would be good.
I have a 94 ZX-9R the low rev performance is very burbly with a lot of stuttering but then hits 3k and takes off like a rocket. Do my pilot jets need to be cleaned? I think it happened when I ran out of fuel the other day.
I would say its a fair diagnostic... maybe try taking teh air filter out and giving them a good blast like i did ....a lot of carb cleaner on the rubbers isn't great, so maybe hit them with WD 40 first while running and see it that helps... try using your hand over the intake mouth while you rev it as well to create some extra vacuum ....might just do the trick . :)
it could be a perished vacuum hose .. but it's Probably time to whip the carbs off an inspect them... could be a slit vacuum diaphragm / stuck butterfly, but impossible to say without the carbs off .
Mate, the spark plugs are the last thing I'd worry about. Your fuel system will need your full attention first. Drain and clean the tank, then your fuel lines, replace the fuel filter and if your able to clean the carbs. Do all this and it will fire up straight away. I had a 94 and had it storage for several years too just like you and I had no choice but to do what I mentioned.
@@tonymontana897 I just bought a 2k model only two days ago, it has been off the road since 2013-2014 as a project through two owners, that was all done and it fires up and runs great.
@@HalfdeadRider Good to hear man. You can't just think to one aspect of this important maintenance. Start from the top and work your way down. I hope your project wasn't one of those street fighter conversions. Arrghh how I hate those !!

@@HalfdeadRider Nice mate. Exactly how I like them. Some mods can be tasteful but others aren't. I have a 2001 with less than 5k on the ODO. It is literally like new ! If it's not been starting in 5 years sir...i would go through everything ....change the oil / plugs check the air filter and probably crank it over with the plugs out first ...maybe even spray some oil in the plug holes to make sure you don't run the bores dry...
Did you find a solution to your issue Liam? Im having the same issue. Taken the pilot jets out and blew them clear, runs better on tick over, but still really struggles when riding.
Yes carbs it was all fully cleaned and riding better now . 1 other thing check you fuel filter my bike was playing up again last week different fuel filter sorted 👌

I've done 2k so far this year was bloody fuel line that was knackered she back purring waiting for carb rebuild kit and rubbers that go to engine then she be tip top

Thought about doing the coils myself....Also need to ride it more to stop it "furring up" ...great bikes all the same ...

don't have a fuel gauge on mine ...so no problems ...but probably gonna be a dodgy wire.

What year zx9r is that looks like a 94 but has semi different carb plumbing? Do you know your jet settings?
1998 sir on an "S" plate ill be honest i have no idea what the jet size is, but as far as i know it's standard
Hey man i have a 94 zx9r and i only get 1 hour of riding per an entire gas tank. Do you think its a jet or fuel line issue?
Depends how you ride it , but i usually get around 130-150 miles per tank
@AdeReeves I really baby it I go at most 80mph so idk why the fuel economy would be so low
it could be a perished vacuum hose .. but it's Probably time to whip the carbs off an inspect them... could be a slit vacuum diaphragm / stuck butterfly, but impossible to say without the carbs off .
@AdeReeves that narrows it down, thank you. I'll let you know what it is when I find it

Ade Reeves ok thank you I’ll keep you updated
where is the adjustment screw?
LHS (on mine) just under the carb area .
If you don't know what ports are what etc you shouldn't be putting an airline near them,as you'll end up ripping diaphragms etc
Seems I was lucky then. Thanks for the comments ..
Having problems my self on my zx9r now won't rev past 4k and when I try and ride it just dies when moving off no power weather its carb I don't no
Dam not good....hope you get it sorted.

Rumors have it the guy died from carbon monoxide.
I thrive on Carbon Monoxide 😂
Where did you sprayed the wd40 and the carb cleaner
Where the air cleaner attaches ..
