i would love to see how to make a plastic hollow cast jug and a lid to put on it for custom candy jars a genie lantern in a tutorial would of course suit me well. thanks a million for all these helpful tutorials.
Is there a plastic that can be moulded that will stand up to extreme (heat, cold, UV sunlight/rays) conditions, like a replacement hood ornament on a car? Something that won't warp, breakdown.
If this needed to be sanded to correct some imperfections can this plastic be polished to restore the clear appearance? Looks like just what I need for my project.
The Crystal Clear does have some UV inhibitors in it and will resist the UV exposure. If the piece is going to be outside make sure you have a material that will be heat resistant to the temperatures that the final piece will be exposed too. Urethane resin and Epoxy resins are two different chemical compositions. The Crystal Clear will be better with UV exposure than epoxy resins will be. I've been using mold star 30 for ages, I always thought MS30 was not made for brush-on mold, I'm I right in assuming that you can use it in the same fashion as the rebound series, with THI-VEX ?
Thank you for this video! Can you use Crystal Clear with Rebound 25? Im looking for extra clear resins that I can manually rotocast for a mask making project. Thank you
Smooth Cast 300 has a "snap cure" which doesn't make it a great choice for rotocasting. WE would recommend our SMooth Cast 65D for a roto-castable white resin.
Thank you, that makes sense. I hope you guys will have a distributor in Romania in the future, so I can find the full product range and get something suitable :D

Yea, I'm going to keep using a sectional plug. I would really love to get the equipment for rotocasting so I could make vinyl figures, but no room for that monster. Also a note on rotocasting, the consistant speed and having three rotational axis is really important variable for casting.
It's always a good day when we get a new Milo video.

Great idea! We will let the video team know.

Great tutorial. Where did you find an Olmec head of that size. I’d love to make one of those.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial. Milo had it sitting in his garage. Told me that he got it at a yard sale years ago.
Can this be painted after it's cured, and how well will it do outdoors in the hot sun? Thank you if, those questions get answered I will buying some.
It would depend on the exposure. Being a thin-walled casting, you would want to make sure that the piece is post-cured before display.
@@smoothonhi, will it yellow in the sun like epoxy?
How much thickness would you say should be applied per layer? 2mm or so?
Hey There, Yes that is about what you would want. We were looking for a 4-5mm thickness for the final casting.
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for,, May I ask what silicone did you use on the video? Is it mold star 30?
Yes, this is Mold Star™ 30
@@smoothon appreciate it!
Is the smooth on life cast silicone a matte finish? Or is that dependent on the material you molded
It would be dependant on the material you molded.
If this needed to be sanded to correct some imperfections can this plastic be polished to restore the clear appearance?
Looks like just what I need for my project.
Yes, it can be polished
Any information on that degassing chamber you used?
Here's some information on the Smooth-On vacuum chamber. www.smooth-on.com/products/vacuum-chamber/
hi is this uv resistant? just curious, what’s the difference between urethane resin and epoxy resin?
The Crystal Clear does have some UV inhibitors in it and will resist the UV exposure. When you vacuumed the resin, what was the negative pressure in PSI?
Your vacuum chamber needs to pull down to 29 inches of mercury.
can any acrylic paint be used to color the resin?😊
No, you'll need a colorant that can be used with urethane resin like So-Strong or UVO.
What happen if we put crystal clear 202 on pressure pot in a mold max 29NV silicone mold ? Thanks
We would recommend the mold was also made under pressure.
How many long time cept it store this material ?
Information on the shelf life of our materials can be found here: www.smooth-on.com/page/materials-shelf-life-warranty/
thanks@@smoothon
That’s impressive that the thickness is so even despite the manual spinning. I thought the spinning had to be be done with a machine.

Rebound 25 will outperform Mold Star 30 in brush-on moldmaking applications.
Thank you for this video! Can you use Crystal Clear with Rebound 25? Im looking for extra clear resins that I can manually rotocast for a mask making project. Thank you
No, Crystal Clear is not compatible with Rebound 25. It is, however, compatible with Mold Star 15 and 30.
you can use thivex to thicken mold star silicone to a likelyness of R25!
Would a hollow casting be possible with liquid plastic 300 using the same method?
Smooth Cast 300 has a "snap cure" which doesn't make it a great choice for rotocasting. WE would recommend our SMooth Cast 65D for a roto-castable white resin.
I thought that Crystal Clear also had a snap cure?
@@sarahcristel5877 It is less of a snap cure than Smooth Cast 300.
Thank you, that makes sense. I hope you guys will have a distributor in Romania in the future, so I can find the full product range and get something suitable :D
Thanks Sarah!
You make it look so easy. Thanks for showing us this cool technique. The final result looks great.
Thanks for watching! 😃
@@smoothon Does Polyurethane deform in the sun like normal resin would?
Thanks🤗
No problem 😊
Milo shows how to achieve a "glass-like" finish on a rotocast piece using Crystal Clear™ 202 clear urethane resin!
