Surprisingly enough my car was found about two days later. Car was in a tow yard for 3 days before police reached out to me about it being recovered. I arrive at the tow yard to recover my vehicle ; and to my surprise I was told I had to pay 300$ for a police recovered vehicle + 60$ per day in the tow yard. At that point I wasn’t going to accept those fees so I decided to forfeit ownership ; which also came with a fee, another 60$ fee to give them OWNERSHIP of my own vehicle. I learned of the scam that is tow yards that day ,and how the police isn’t here for the interest of the common working man or woman.

With me I went through a similar situation dealing with the corrupt police tow yard. Difference is I had the money, but what happened is my license is suspended. So I couldn't get a registration for the vehicle. I just wanted the car so I could tow it back to the leasing company since it was in an accident. I was going to take a hit, but it wouldn't have been as bad as not having the car at all. The tow place told me they only release it if I have title or registration. Now mind you the car had been impounded before totally unrelated situation and I got it out with a proof of lease document. This time however they decided not to budge and sold my car within a 2 week time frame. I was devastated and still dealing with the situation as far as trying to get a new vehicle years later.
As a Canadian watching these clips, it's absolutely shocking seeing Americans being treated this way, in the most (supposedly) free country in the world.
Yep because they only advertise the auction in the back of some paper and deep in the police website so almost no one turns up except police and their friends,
The disgusting tactic of civil asset forfeiture is never warranted and is without exception unconstitutional. Under no circumstances does the US Constitution allow any government entity to seize property from innocent people. Third party use of that property to commit crime never justifies an end run around the US Constitution.
They are stealing from the citizens of this city who are poor . Who work so hard for everything they have . This is so wrong and evil . The fact that they are selling people’s property and keeping the proceeds and more than likely not putting that money in the city is so unjust bruh .
Ahhhh.. in America, it's a privilege to own a car, not a right. While her boyfriend was never charged with the crime of prostitution: 1. Was he charged with anything else? 2. Did your boyfriend have a current and valid DL? 3. Did the car display current tags? 4. Where there any outstanding parking tickets/violations on the vehicle? Moral of this story - Next time a friend asks for your car to "hang around" high crime/drug areas, tell them to find another idiot to ask. Owners can be held legally responsible for giving permissive use of their property for use in a crime.
Civil asset forfeiture is unlawful under the 4th, and 8th amendments to the United States Constitution. Furthermost, it is a direct threat to the lives of law enforcement officers, as a Constitutional American will keep calm and fire back, giving as good as he/she gets. Theft is illegal in all forms. Under USC Title 18 section 241-242, any seizure of property without due process constitutes "deprivation of property" under this law. Being Federal, it applies in every state in the Union. "Git 'em!"- Blaine Price(me)
I've watched so many of your videos and they make me so mad. Civil asset forfeiture is being ridiculously abused and I applaud your efforts to try to make it less prevalent. I just wish I saw a video where you guys got a win. 😕
I feel for these victims. When you are robbed at gunpoint, who do you call when it was the police that robbed you? You would think at some point it would cost them more to settle the lawsuits then they are able to steal from their victims.
Its true! I had my car taken by someone without permission they took it to a drug house and it was seized, my car was basically stolen and i had to pay 1300 in fees to get it back, i had nothing to do with the crime, my car was technically stolen, how dose that make sense?
They’ve done that to me !! $270 to get MY vehicle back, dirty, painted windshield and muddy dog paw prints on every seat. All my papers, owner’s manual and effects strewn all over the inside.
It's perfectly legal to go to a club, pick up a girl, and take her to a motel, then give her some money as a present. It's illegal to drive your car, meet a girl on the street, take her to a motel, then give her some money as a present. How does that make sense ? What is the difference between A/ Being stopped on the street by a man with a gun, who robs you of all of your money and car. B/ Being stopped by a man in uniform with a gun, who robs you of all of your money and car. I don't see any difference, except A/ will be arrested, and B/ will be promoted.
If a criminal gets your car seized because they had it and they are convicted, I see no issue with forcing someone to pay to get it back. Want your money back? Sue the person who caused it. However, if you have it seized and are not charged or convicted with a crime, that’s just theft. Plain and simple.

@HITZONE86 I'm not sure if you watch much news, but all across this country there have people who have deliberately attacked police officers at random. This is especially true over the last 5 years or so. The point I am making is whether one feels it's right or wrong, things like this particular story are alot to do with it. The culture in general that police seem to have across the entire country is not one of "serving". Info not agree with people saying there is systemic racism but I wholeheartedly agree that the police in this country at every level need to be reigned in and held to at bare minimum the same standards we are. If this does not happen then there will continue to be a civil war between the public and the police, especially in inner cities. They have shown an unwillingness to have a dialogue of any kind, and those of us who believe in liberty and the Constitution will never back down.

That's isn't impounding, that is just asset forfeiture.
Holy Shit! So if a tourist turns down the wrong road or gets lost, his vehicle can be seized by the Detroit Police? That is completely and utterly insane. Vehicles in Detroit need a self destruct button.
Citizens of Pittsburgh need to go after Pittsburgh's car impounding scam!
Civil forfeiture laws are insane.
They are not law. They are unconstitutional and cannot be made law. If someone attempted to do that they should be imprisoned for at least 30 years. If they did it behind peoples backs, they should hang!
Thank you for agreeing to fight this injustice!
I moved to Detroit in 2013 and fled in 2017. Michigan and Detroit is too corrupt from the Mayor on down to the cops on patrol it's a dam shame
Must not have carried enough donuts with you
The 1 person disliking this video was probably watching it on a forfeited computer.
It’s true. My car was taken for drugs that were later found to be prescribed. Luckily the truth was revealed and I got my car back 3 weeks later but I still had to pay storage fees
Also writting a lot of tickets is their revenue.
I'm curious, what percentage of the proceeds go into the public coffers and what percentage goes into private pockets.
Public officials are using the power of their positions to make a personal gain.
Ray Giordano: Make them pay interest on the value of what they stole.
You mean make tax payers pay. Either way the people lose no matter what.
It's amazing what you get with one party rule. Please keep up the good work fighting these terrible laws and municipalities.
I used to agree, but many Republican leaders support civil asset forfeiture laws as well. The southern states are the worst. It won’t stop until my fellow libertarians/those on the right, etc wake up and realize that the police ARE the government and by blindly supporting them, we’ve enabled big government control over us.
Until people think of ways to fix the system or replace the system there will be no change.
Love the work you are doing ! Detroit has been a cesspool of dis-functionality and corruption for as long as I can remember

Same thing that happened to the first lady's boyfriend, is the same thing that happened to me. 19 at the time, that's how I got my car impounded. Had to pay at least $1,700. I wish I had known my rights then like I do now. They were definitely violated that day.
YOU SHOULD HAVE SUED THE TOW COMPANY.
They're taking innocent worker's cars ? For personal profit ?? Legally ?? Time for a Civil Lawsuit !!!
As a Canadian watching these clips, it's absolutely shocking seeing Americans being treated this way, in the most (supposedly) free country in the world.
If it was a free country why do they work so hard n so many hours for tips
If innocence is no defense then breaking the law is your best offense.
Thank you IJ for helping these people.
You guys are the only hope working folks have.
It's`become that bad in America, just nasty,
And they take certain cars so they can buy them at the auctions for next to nothing .
Yep because they only advertise the auction in the back of some paper and deep in the police website so almost no one turns up except police and their friends,
city officials like the mayor of Albion have been seen driving these seized vehicles
it is totally illegal to seize property without a seizure warrant, just like a search warrant, thanks for letting the world know
Thank you for giving me just one more reason to NEVER go to Detroit for ANY REASON!!!
The disgusting tactic of civil asset forfeiture is never warranted and is without exception unconstitutional. Under no circumstances does the US Constitution allow any government entity to seize property from innocent people. Third party use of that property to commit crime never justifies an end run around the US Constitution.
Curious: Does DPD seize rental cars? I bet they don't.
of course. They got lawyers and can sue every time.....
They are stealing from the citizens of this city who are poor . Who work so hard for everything they have . This is so wrong and evil . The fact that they are selling people’s property and keeping the proceeds and more than likely not putting that money in the city is so unjust bruh .
As a person in law enforcement, this sickens me.
Ahhhh.. in America, it's a privilege to own a car, not a right.
While her boyfriend was never charged with the crime of prostitution:
First, this woman looks Amazing!!!! Secondly, when will the govt do it's job and actually serve the people? Not consistently fail us.
Steved D: No go after their pensions. Make their mistakes hurt.
I hope that this gets resolved soon to alleviate the anguish it is placing on innocent people.
So who is running that place ? Sounds like they all belong in jail too.
It's perfectly legal to go to a club, pick up a girl, and take her to a motel, then give her some money as a present.
It's illegal to drive your car, meet a girl on the street, take her to a motel, then give her some money as a present.
How does that make sense ?
What is the difference between
A/ Being stopped on the street by a man with a gun, who robs you of all of your money and car.
B/ Being stopped by a man in uniform with a gun, who robs you of all of your money and car.
I don't see any difference, except A/ will be arrested, and B/ will be promoted.
It’s a theft ring.
If a criminal gets your car seized because they had it and they are convicted, I see no issue with forcing someone to pay to get it back. Want your money back? Sue the person who caused it. However, if you have it seized and are not charged or convicted with a crime, that’s just theft. Plain and simple.
In New York, they do this with people.
😲 HOW!!!???
Met 1 guy that was born and raised from that city....he has NOTHING GOOD to say about that place. What a horrible city, would never step a foot there.
The chief needs to step up and get. This women her car back she did nothing wrong
Exactly my experience. Thank You for doing this!!!
Compelling stories about victims of this unjust MI law but I hope you follow up with reports on how you righted these wrongs and put an end to this injustice.
Given that big cities have prostitutes throughout the city. The cops can call anywhere "caught in a prostitute area" and that's enough to take your car.
dont forget you still own the car. you cant un register it and have to keep paying taxes on it.
They put a lean on the title and sell them
They took my 17 year old girlfriends car and made her walk 3 miles to get home at 1 in the morning ... in the hood ?? She's 5'1 and 90 pounds. They really don't give a fuck about anything but that pay check .
I had my car seized they said I was driving on a suspended license no arrests but I was moving that day I had a full car of clothes and boxes they took everything never got it back it took me three months to have my case dismissed completely from Court I was told that the City and the police were not responsible for paying the fine to the tow yard even though they called it because it took me 3 months to get my case dismissed the tow yard had already filed for a lost title and it was given to them they had taken my car and all of my belongings and donated it to the fire College to have it destroyed once my car was seized that first day there was never any opportunity or chance for me to get it back
This is CNBC Level reporting! Amazing!
This type of crap is why people are literally hunting police officers.
@HITZONE86
Just curious? Did you watch video? All you need to watch to understand what I mean, is the first 30 seconds.
@HITZONE86
I'm not sure if you watch much news, but all across this country there have people who have deliberately attacked police officers at random.
SNIPER SHOTS.

I agree to both comments, and this is why you never let a friend drive your car in Wayne County... Cause you'll end up without a car period...

You want the rich to pay less taxes.
So now the poor will pay the price for that
that is not the problem
The Mayor is in on it.
ending qualified immunity would solve this issue.

@@AECRADIO1 No, police don't choose to steal peoples property. the lawmakers embolden police to do that. we need to fight the law with the law.
@@dnvsrzdnvsrz1152 Are you stupid? Police obviously choose to steal property and do so regularly.
I had a friend who had his car taken because an undercover drug dealer asked did he want to see the weed. My friend jokingly said yeah and when the dealer said ok let me call my connect my friend said I'm not interested and left. About 6 cops came on all sides and took his vehicle saying that he intended to transport illegal substances. This was before weed was made legal. Now mind you this wasn't even Detroit it was a suburb of Detroit. They offered his car initially at 700 when he got the car in the first place for only 1200. He didn't have the money and ended up losing his vehicle.
When they pick up a car and it explodes 24 hours later killing and wounding many officers and garage attendants it will be called a crime .....😎. SO WHAT ❗️
Why would you put that here? Because no one ever checks your internet posts right?
Please continue your fight against CIVIL ASSET FORFEITURES!!!
Forfeiture law only works if the police are lawful, and we know that human nature is to be greedy, so no it doesn't work.
The Institute for Justice is absolutely one of the best orgs out here. They do the work and bring in the public eye.
Do they have a motive? "To see that all citizens of the United States receive due process and are treated equally under the Constitution." There is no special interest group represented here: YOU are the special interest group, WE the People are who they represent and protect.
It doesn't matter whose life you want to say matters when it is becoming increasingly evident that to Law Enforcement Organizations "Your life doesn't matter." Or even worse, what is perhaps more sinister is that their actions indicate that "Poor Lives Don't Matter."
They prey on the weak in society to fill their own pockets.
Im white in michigan and im scared to even drive somewhere legally.
Call it in stolen, let them fight with insurance companies.
They should steal it back.
Civil assets forfeiture needs to change to those convicted of a crime. Not a suspected or suspicious of a crime.
OMG Ohio is doing the same thing. We need help here in Ohio PLEASE!
These criminals need to be exposed and thrown into jail - immediately!! Now you wonder why people protest against this unlawful army of jack booted thugs.
What happened to no property being taken without due process? All laws repugnant to the constitution are null and void.
Police can bend the law whenever it suits their crimes
That Hall of Injustice looks like a relic from the Soviet Union.
How old is she with a "boyfriend" that aint got his own transportation? Damn these females just never learn.
The federal government took down a similar system about 15 years ago in Baldwin Park, California. It was $1,000 per car to get it back from the towing company. The city was getting back a great kickback. The citizens were low income Hispanics who normally would not and could not fight the system.
"The city has a lot to be proud of" he says as he drives past a huge wall covered in graffiti 😂🤣😂
