I used another well know warehousing system for ten years and recently switched across to Aquatech, I like that when you upgrade camera models you can use the housing/lens ports and just get the backplate. The other manufacturer unfortunately required full new housing, lens ports etc. Im in the market for the R5 and Edge housing and will be getting this first quarter off the new year.
Yeah for sure Jerome, definite advantages to this system in that regard. The R5 in the water is life changing in my photography world.... such a great camera... focusing, quality, speed are all just amazing. Im sure you will be stoked when you get your hands on your new setup... thanks for the comment, appreciate it!
@@dreamlifephotography I was digging my heels in to just stick with my 7Dmk2 but I will get the R5 and also still keep that rig and ports. Keep up the great content, I check it out from time to time
@@jeromemosetic7250 I am using the 15-35mm RF lens mostly atm. But I have used my older EF lenses like the 50mm, 70-200 and 100mm macro lens in it as well. Also my older 8-15mm fisheye
@@jeromemosetic7250 thanks mate, stoked you like the videos. The 7Dmk2 is still such a solid camera, definitely will do an amazing job.... The R5 is pretty nice thou
I've 4 aquatech housings since early model for 5DMKII to the latest Edge for my R6. They are great products and very reliable. One day I will get the Flash housing to complete my set.
Thanks for the great video content. Have you taken a hard look at Salty Surf Housings? I have the R5C Boosted Salty Housing and the quality of the build is amazing.
Cheers for the feedback.. appreciate! Yes I have seen the Salty housings (but I've never tested one) I've heard some good reports about them, so Im stoked you are finding them useful for your R5. I have been using Aquatech daily for over 20 years and they have never failed me once... have performed at the highest level and have allowed me to take the photos that I dream of... so while Im aware that Salty, Liquid Eye and others make great products, personally I would be a fool to swap over with a 100% perfect track record over a 20 year period with Aquatech.... but I am all for photographers finding what works best for them.... many of my students in my water photographer course use all different brands but it really your success and safety of equipment inside comes more down to how you use them and the knowledge behind water photography than the camera or housing you are using... appreciate your input on the Salty brand
Clear winners mate. Will be joining the AquaTech fam soon. I used to shoot with another brand of housing, but it just seems the innovation seems to be marching forward more with AquaTech. Looking forward to the challenge.
Sweet mate, yeah they have definitely done the job for me over many years and they have been in the hands of the very best water photogs in the world so I reckon you will do well with them... yew!
@@lukegardiner6926 For me it comes down to the accessories mate. I'm planning more fine art projects as opposed to the standard in water surf photography. Have found non-proprietary products that integrate seamlessly with the AquaTech brand given their market penetration.
@@dreamlifephotography the eagle has landed mate. Got a trade-in 5DSr housing, seeing as I have a relatively new body for that. Will go mirrorless when I use this shutter up. It's been about 8yrs since I lived in Bali, where I used to swim out with surfers at the breaks there. Good times.

@@seawildearth Yeah those facebook groups on surf and water photography are a good resource. Aquatech is starting to trade in older gear, so Im guessing down the track they will be selling second hand stuff as well
Aquatech lost me at the Edge housing. Had a chance to really make something special but they dropped the ball with some poor design choices. Miss the quick set up and flash, but other manufacturers meet all the other requirements and go above and beyond.
That's interesting, I found the Edge to be a major upgrade from the previous models, which I really loved as well. But as I said in the video, I can only come in from my perspective and definitely encourage everyone to find what works best for them. Im glad you have found a manufacturer that produces what you are looking for. Thanks so much for your input.... value the continued discussion... cheers ledge
I just can’t stand the poor placement of the shutter compared to the back af. It’s a pain in the ass as their electronic shutter is the best shutter mechanism in a housing by a mile (loved it on my elite II). Not knocking them as I have a soft spot for Aquatech but just feel like Salty offered a better product for the R5. Am considering getting one so I can shoot flash but
@@lukegardiner6926 Yeah, I hear what you are saying with the back focus button taken out of the equation. I go into that in my Edge housing review. Im a big back focus shooter so that was a let down, but the new clip system couldn't facilitate both... and gotta say I really like the new clip system, so its just a trade off I guess. Ive seen the Salty ones, they look good too.... but I think Aquatech still win with the sports housings when it comes to flash... cheers ledge!!
