Some of us old guys are so used to RPN that is very difficult to use anything else. I'm glad somebody is still making RPN calculators.

Towards the midst of the video, I thought you'd say "we're closing the Swissmicros", and my heart was about to burst. Very glad to hear that, from now on, you're a full time M. Steinmann of Swissmicros. This is great news. Make sure, we'll buy whatever the new project is, but please keep in mind that we're still looking forward to hear something about the 48-50. Keep the good work. 👍

I have been the proud owner of my DM42 i purchased from you guys some years ago after i saw the video by Dave Jones (EEV blog). It has been a piece of joy to use in my electronics work! The greatest thing too is that although i struggled as a young student with math & now not far from retirement age i find i'm now completely enamored by it. I actually enjoy taxing my brain with some complex stuff & my DM42 always near me...

Now that it is your full time job I can't wait what you have in the future.
I would love i redesign of the dm15l model with the same quality and power of the newer dm42/41x.
Also Saturn emulation? Now you are really teasing! A 48/50 replica with that beautiful new screen that would be really something!
Anyway keep up the great work 👍

I just found SwissMicros by accident, and I have to say that I'm very happy I did. I'm a huge fan of the HP-41c, but unfortunately my unit, that I bought in 1981, died a while ago and I deeply miss it. I use some Emulators on iPad and iPhone, but it's far from being as good. I saw the DM41X, and I placed an order within a couple of minutes. Hopefully it will arrive soon, I'm so waiting for it. Greetings from Luxembourg...

YES! Can't wait to see what that next model will be after that (hopefully it will have the HP-48 form factor, with a colour screen -- hey, I can dream right?).
But whatever it is, it will be meant for *us* engineers and professionals and real calculator afficionado, and forgo the limitations imposed by schools exams. RPN rules!

    • @henrikkoberstein
      @henrikkoberstein 2 роки тому

With the DM-42 and DM-41X they have a great form factor and superior hardware, IMHO competing with the original -41 and -42s themselves. The only thing I miss on my 41X is HP-IL, cassette drive and printer, but that's a small price to pay to be able to save my precious -41s while using an excellent replica which is in many cases even better than the original!

Well, I'm hooked! If your new project(s) is(are) an indication of existing projects, you will have a winner. It'd be nice if your existing customers (followers, fans, groupies, nerds, calculator junkies etc) continue to support your efforts. I only have a DM42 at present, 41X on the way. Thank you and your SM Group. It's rare to find quality nowadays, but every now and then you do find that diamond in the rough. Best regards and may SM have every success moving forward.

I have an HP50G, for my use the faster processor is the only thing it has over the 48, the keys are poor and the plastic case and display leave a lot to be desired. I look forward to a Swiss Micros graphical calculator one day. In the meantime, I am buying a 42. You guys are great, keep up the good work!

I consider that ALL of the traditional calculator manufacturer forgot the engineers. I am an structural engineer and my Hp50g got damaged. One of the most important characteristic of the hp50g (for me) is the unit management. I will appreciate if Swissmicros could make an hp50g. Engineers do not need SAP calculators. We need advanced calculatos. Thanks!

Michael, after the p4ndem1cs, I will be the owner of my first DM (David & Michael) rpn calculator - Hurrah! Cheers! I chose DM42 as my first one, but I plan buying other models in a near future.
For me, an intermediate step was deciding which DM to buy in 2023, as DM42 had a serious contender, DM41X, both outstanding machines, not counting the DM41L and DM15 as smaller-sized sister machines.
We understand that many challenges occur in SwissMicros projects, but backlog and forums have witnessed your commitment and passion to solve them all and continue to “raise the bar” for quality, performance and options.
    Thank you Michael and David!

I was in Paris two days ago, at a symposium marking the 50th anniversary of the programming language, "PROLOG", one widely used. commercial version of which I am the designer and author. Strangely, in a break-out session over coffee, I found myself talking not about PROLOG, but about the HP-41C. Before I got into PROLOG and AI, I learnt my first programming skills on my beloved, but sadly long-gone (stolen) HP-41C with its three extra memory modules and the time module. Sure, I how have an emulator on my iPhone and iPad, but I miss the physical interface to the wonderful world of RPN. So I went on the web to look around - and stumbled upon the DM42, and then the DM41X. Excited? Boy YES! I hope to become a customer for at least one, if not both, of these, anytime soon!

I've been a long-time HP calculator user. From the HP25 days. My latest "upgrade," from the 35S to the Prime G2 was a big mistake. Today's HP is nothing like the HP of years ago, and competing with TI for the educational market just isn't going to work.
Longing for the days of something like my old 41C (that died long ago), I took the plunge and got the DM41X. You've snatched the torch from HP's dying hand.

I would hugely love an HP-28/48/49/50 SwissMicros successor. Like the DM42, but with another row of keys, more RAM/ROM/flash and running an HP48GX emulator. (This will join my DM42, DM41L, DM42X, although the 42 is now running WP43S...) Good luck in your full-time SwissMicros life!

I just received my DM42, and it is absolutely perfect. The keyboard is just as nice as any original HP, and it's very helpful to have that extra row of function keys. It appears that your efforts at continuous improvement have paid off. I don't find any of the issues that plagued the earlier production units. I feel that this calculator is superior to the original 42S in quality and function.

P.S.: “DM” was indeed a nice choice as David & Michael, similar to original HP (Hewlett & Packard) or WP (Walter & Pauli).
DM that could be our “Definite Machine” for calculations in RPN, while not allowing confusion with American’s MD (Medical Doctor) 😊!

The only thing I don't like is the parts are made in China. It would be great if they could be sourced ABC (Anywhere But China).

You do realise that you are standing on the shoulders of giants, the giants of HP’s world leading calculator division?
Of course you do! You’re taking their legacy on into the future in a direction that many of those pioneers would have chosen themselves if they had that choice to make.
More power to you and your team - you have one hell of a responsibility to live up to and you’re certainly doing just that!

I am very surprised, that the DM41X, with dot display, is not able to plot curves. It has so many modules and functions integrated, but no commands for using the great display😢 Also the mantissa is limited and not equalized to DM42, why? Constraints of copyright? I would like to have an firmware update. Nevertheless I do like my DM41X and appreciate your work and efforts very much!😊

There is a fundamental difference between the DM41X and the DM42.
The DM41X runs the original ROM as an emulation, whereas the DM42 simulates and extends the functionalities of the HP-42S.
The DM41X will never have higher precision.

I think you should focus on decimal precision... everything is a calculator nowadays our pcs our phones etc... so specialize in things a normal everyday calculator (not even a pc if you dont code it your self ) can not give you. Decimal precision is how I learned you exist (and the fact that you dont have it readily available on display "out of the box" on your dm42 is underwhelming)
I think a next hit for you would be something like making an "swiss pocket knife" calculator like e.g Ti Nispire II CAS rival but with better precision (the Ti one has only 14 digits of which only 12 can be displayed)
And also add which will also be an additional revenue stream for your company e.g add the ability for it to connect with valirous sensors air quality sesnsor rpm sensor sound sensor etc etc etc temperature sensor co2 sensor and so on and so forth so that one could use the graphing capabilities the libraries and the precision of your calculator to do actual experiments

However, most likely the USB port is not defective, because it is needed for loading the initial firmware.
Have you tried a different USB cable? Depending on the USB cable, it might be difficult inserting the plug all the way in. For testing, you could remove the back case of the calculator.
