I'm a 30 year old geologist, and I can honestly trace my career path back to discovering the awesomeness of dinosaurs and fossils when I was 8 years old. I lived a short distance from where Big Al was dug up in Wyoming. Great video and tribute to a majestic animal.
That's awesome! A special version of Walking With Dinosaurs and the official Discovery Channel commenting on this video! Back when Discovery Channel had (some) good dinosaur content. Sigh. 😔
@@darkwaterstag7068 lmao, same. I used to be a huge dinosaur nerd when I was a kid and this used to be the coolest thing ever. Those were simpler days.
I had this movie on tape when I was a child, and I watched it over and over again to the point when the tape broke. It was my absolute favourite film, and I learned all the names of the creatures in it. I memorized what species lived when and set up plays with the plastic miniatures at my kindergarten, the species sorted by the period they lived in. The book version of this movie was the very first book I bought for my own money, and I still read it to this day. This brings back memories.
I just love walking with dinosaurs! its a REALLY old program I used to watch it when I whas 5! and its way more nicer than the programs you see now on tv
MAD clip. Allosaurus has always been my fav dino and always will be. He was the top preditor in the Jurrasic cause T-Rex and Spino were in the Cretaceous time. Anyway great clip. Ill definently add to favs. THANX
Dinosaurs facinate me ! especially Dienonychus ,jurassic parks 'Velociraptor' was portrayed the way that the Dienonychus actually looked! ,cunning, lightning speed, exquiset intellegents and the deadly 'killer toe' made Dienonychus a stunning yet life threatening addition to the dinosaur race!
Fantastic combination between the lovely, amazing music of Epicon and the realistic, superb scenes of the life of Allosaurus fragilis. Very well done. I give you the maximum rate.
Hey, no worries! Glad she liked it! Nice to hear the big guys are actually being talked about a bit in schools nowadays, too. Can't recall hearing much about them myself way back in the day. ^_^
I've never actually decided what my favorite Dinosaur is, but Allosaurus is definitely a candidate. Especially how the way it was depicted has changed dramatically since we were children. In older books, it was shown as a rather generalized looking theropod that was rather indistinguishable from any other. But now that those prominent crests above its orbits give it a much more sinister appearance, it just got way cooler.
Allosaurus does share some traits of those 2, but Evolution was the major thing there. it basically went from dinosaurs like Ceolophysis, to Allosaurus, to Giganotosautrus, or Compsugnathus, to Albertosaurus, to Tyrannosaurus. it's all in the random act of evolution. :)
Yep, the stegosaurus in the forest piece is from the original series, but the baby allosaurs - along with the salt lake sauropod chase - is footage taken from the Walking With Dinosaurs Special: Allosaurus. It's an add-on, of sorts; a shorter doco than the regular series, but it focuses entirely on the life and times of Big Al, a particularly well-preserved Allosaurus in Wyoming. If you enjoyed the original series, the Allosaurus special is a must-see. ; )
I want to make movies when I'm older, and one of the ideas that I've had for some time is about the life journey of an Allosaurus. Only it's more of a fantasy film than a documentary, except the dinosaurs don't talk.
at least speilberg said he TRIED to make the dinosaurs seem like more than blood thirsty monsters... but apparently that concept was lost when that other guy directed JP3
You are very welcome, and thank you for the praise! Nice to see that even a few million years after his death, Big Al Still has a few fans out there! :D
Yes indeed, they were very well put-together. BBC does undeniably good work. ^_^ The name of the song is 'Epicon', by Immediate Music, though it's the hybrid version of it, not the original; the latter has none of the vocals, which I feel contribute very much to the song. : )
Ohhh, I know a few folks who wouldn't be that clever... That aside, though, I'll say this; simply because we are the only truly 'sentient' species on the planet doesn't mean we are the only ones with free will. Animals of all kinds love to indulge themselves in things that serve no point or purpose in the game of survival; they're just fun, so they do it. Obviously survival comes first, but hey, on those days when everything's going all right, they do like to kick back a bit too!
That was an INCREDIBLE finish, mate! I still can't believe they took that match, but all the power to em! Aside from the fact that I'm pulling for Germany over them in the semis...but hey, good on em for getting there! Nonetheless, I'm still backing Spain the whole way through. Time to fall, Italy!
For those who don't know, allosaurus cheated death in the jurassic extinction. Allosaurus was a late jurassic dinosaur, and when extinction struck, heating up the planet allosaurus survived by moving from North America to southern Australia to stay cooler. Allosaurus is by far my favourite dinosaur.
The Golden King He probably means Australovenator, which was referred to as a 'Polar Allosaur' in the fifth episode Spirits of the Ice Forest. Australovenator was a megaraptoran, which, if I remember correctly, WERE related to allosaurids, but don't quote me on that.
spongedan219's got it; this (the Walking With Dinosaurs series) is a documentary produced by the BBC, and it aired on television quite a few years ago. However, it is available for purchase on DVD, usually in a box set. Most of the footage used in this video is from the Walking With Dinosaurs Special: The Ballad of Big Al documentary, a bit of a side-piece to the regular series. It's also available for purchase, with both of them on the BBC Shop website. They're both rather cheap, nowadays.
I prefer the Allosaurus over the other ones, as it looks like the most elegant one. The T-Rex is just too bulky with too ridiculously crippled fore-arms... An Allosaurus would be kind of cool as a pet, but, considering what a freaked-out cat can do...meh, maybe its better A. died out ^^
See, my mistake, there. We're arguing about things that are already here in the present; no way am I going to start speculating about what's going to happen. That's just something nobody can 'win'.
That's a really good question, and one I don't have an answer for. I know that there were many bird-like, winged dinosaurs (microraptor, etc.); something must separate true birds from them, but as a layperson I don't know what.
This sounds like it should be a chase theme music in a action film and tv shows in a specific scene the main hero’s chase the bad guys down to the policemen’s trap.
@Trahira517 Really? Wow, that honestly surprises me, but I can't say it's in a bad way at all. I'm actually pleased as punch to hear that this modest little effort is going towards educating people - no matter how negligibly - in the right setting. More than anything, it just brings a grin to my face to think of this being watched in a classroom by students. I never even considered that happening when I made it, I promise you that. Thanks for making my day. : )
Hey mate, i found your video with "Big Al" REAL cool =) and i'd sure want to know what's the name of the soundtrack your using in that video? it's DAMN cool
To be honest, 'nothing' wasn't the catalyst behind 'everything' being created, and that is not how evolutionists think. There are, however, factors that are believed to have helped: temperature, atmosphere, location, and, most importantly, time. It isn't thought to have started quickly. Evolution doesn't revolve around the humble beginnings of life on Earth, though. If you want to start a debate with an abiogenesist feel free, but until then, keep your argument against evolution within it.
Yeah, the allosaurus should probably have more birdlike behavior, not wolf- or lion-like. I have no idea how the sauropods should have behaved, though. As for your first two points, I agree from a scientific standpoint, but BBC had a product to sell and playing off the "aggressive monster" stereotypes grabs people's attention.
@gothmogate That is a tricky question. As you already know, there are several species of Allosaurs, with A. fragilis being the most commonly found and being only moderate (8.5 metres) in length. Chances are, this measurement is the most accurate size of Allosaurs, as it is the most-found species we know of. Like modern animals, only a very few individuals would reach 'full' size; for example, only a handful of estuarine crocodiles in a population get to be 18 feet, being more commonly 13-15 ft.
This was one of the first UA-cam videos I saw, really brings me back
"Walking with Dinosaurs" Still the best dinosaur documentary out there

Man, the nostalgia!! Dude, I remember this from when I was little. Dammit!! Nostalgia has never been so higher
It amazes me how realistic these dinosaurs look. This was one of my favorite programs about dinosaurs.
Yeah it's very good
Discovery Channel's airing a special version of Walking with Dinos this Sunday, March 23rd
Discovery nice
Can't wait
That's awesome!

I love the WWD design for the Allosaurus, they look so beautiful.
I love the Allosaurus!
I agree, it truly is a classic design for a classic dinosaur. ;)
Me2 i love them!
Finally after 10 years of searching, I have found this video again
Same. Holy shit I remember watching this 10 years ago as a kid in primary school imagining myself doing cool things to the music
