Hello Colby , You Sir are on the right track using PIKE Minnows for bait ,and the bigger the better ! I ave caught a 50 + lb Striper on this very bait . I once had a 45 lbder hit and take a 3 lb shad while shad fishing in the American river and numerous 30 + fish at the mouth of the Feather in the winter ... I caught the big striper in January 1st . I always trolled them behind my boat with my electric motor very slow . The American has a resident population of large stripers . I have used everything from bacon ,pwerbait but roe works the best ! tip my prefered spot was the howe ave launch ramp for stripers GOOD LUCK !

@@MossDaleMonster I do target them during the summer with worms, spinners, salmon eggs, sardines, ect. They can be hard to find especially in the winter. You usually catch them on accident. The salmon are vulnerable in low clear water river conditions to lots of predators. The river is usually very high during the time smolts are headed to the ocean
Damn you are brave fishing without a lawyer present in my state of North Carolina that is not very wise in my state you can cross this invisible line and you get into a whole different bunch of rules and regulations

That’s usually how it works. You can catch them on almost anything. They can be hard to catch though. Especially in the winter

It’s the Sacramento River in Northern California. Pike minnows are native baitfish here. You catch them in the river
