Little Truckee River Trout
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
My 1 Truckee River trout, while fishing with #ERICLESLIE. The song is called "The Miracle". I thought it was fitting. I initially snagged my tag fly. When I broke it off, the fish ate the dropper.

upgrading the hooks on my glide swimmer. what would you use? I want to put on owner st-66 1/0 but worried they'll be too heavy and ruin the action
@@stalkthepace the stock hooks are pretty good but I like owner st-56 4x stinger hooks 1/0 on a glide swimmer 200.
@@colbymyers6278 I can only find st-56 in 3x. So im just gunna roll with the st-66 4x. Thanks for your help
@ I think the stock hooks are 3x. Both will work though. If you are worried about the action you can go down to a size 1, but I use 1/0 and sometimes weight the hooks and they still swim good. The glide swimmer has one of the swimming actions
you said you're using straight braid. what pound test are you using for stripers in strong current?
@@stalkthepace 65# on a 300 size reel
Bro. Loose the retarded , loud music. So annoying.
Hey awesome video! Not looking for exact but whereabouts in cali is this
@@eruffdaddy21 where the sierras meet the cascades in north/east california
Awesome video, so many quality fish great job!
BEEEEAST!! Nice catch and awesome fight!
Yes it was!
Very nice
Dems some slippery looking rocks . . .
@@patsheridan they are very slippery! Thanks for checking out the video
@@colbymyers6278 Appreciate the vid. Love how your dog gets into it whenever you have a fish on! What bugs were you throwing?
And was this taken in October? Pretty good flows for that time of year.
Lucy loves fishing! Im not sure exactly when I took this footage. The water is usually high all summer. They usually cut back the flows in the fall, depending on what section you are in. This footage was probably late September. I usually euro nymph up there with euro style flies. There are lots of caddis, stone flys, pmd’s and crayfish up there so I try to mimic that stuff. This is actually pretty low water for these spots
What rod do you throw this bait on? I found a great deal on a 10” Dead Twitch and 13” Upsidedown Dead Stick and want to know if my Dobyns 908 will do.
@@AdanGutierrez-l6s I use a okuma guide select sbx xxh 5-15oz rod and a irod genisis Bailey mag swim 9’6” xxh 4-12oz rod. The okuma handles it way better. Hope this helps. The 13” dead twitch weighs 15oz
303 works best with hvy braid to 30floro
i respect the release but don’t fucken put the big girls on a dam stringer if u gonna let them go 🤦🏻♂️
It’s the safest, best way to revive big fish. Thanks for the comment
@@colbymyers6278 care to explain how it’s a safe way i don’t see how putting something through it’s gill plate like that is ok for the fish does it not rub on the gills and effect them i’m curious cuz i want to make sure the big ones i catch go back safely i tend to hold them till they go but i’d like to hear what u have to say sir.
The rope is looped between the gills and the gill plate, so it’s not sliding around. It’s not threaded through the gills. I keep the fish in slow current on the rope so water is always flowing through the gills no matter what, and they don’t have to necessarily be swimming. Similar to releasing big saltwater fish. The rope is so I don’t have to physically touch the fish until it’s revived. I can just leave them alone. I release the fish when it’s swimming strong and upright. I prefer lifting the fish by the gill plate because it’s very strong and actually part of the fishes skull. The jaw is not, and sometimes it’s hard to get a gripper over the jaw on a big fish. There is nothing wrong with holding the fish to revive it, or using a live well. However my live well is small, and I don’t think the average live well circulates enough water. Even a large live well isn’t that big. So I like having them on the rope, in the current, where they can rest for a while.
@@colbymyers6278 interesting might have to give it a try does kinda get old holding them in the water for days till they go back
Wow congratulations, big fish !!!! I have a 9 inch swimbait I never use. Maybe I will now after watching your videos, always thought 9 inch was to big .
Try trollin with em. Me an my buddy have been trollin at night with pistol petes an sneaky petes for years slammin em
' he came off...son of' ..' no he didn't' 😂
That was awesome ! I appreciate you letting her go
Thanks for checking it out
Nice! Love your music selections
Thanks man!
I’m a little late, what rod do you throw you abt on?
I throw it on a few different rods. Irod genesis 2 8’6 bailey mag swim, okuma sbx xxh, pheonix M1 inshore 3-8oz 9ft, and I’ve thrown it on a okuma guide select xh 3-10oz. If I had only 1 rod to use it would prob be the Bailey mag swim
Is this Hamilton Branch in South Carolina?
No, it’s in northern california
great fish but terrible handling, seems like y'all west coast guys have 0 clue how to handle and respect these big cows, what a shame that fish is probably dead..
Colby have a few swimbaits for you to use. If you want them get in touch. Not sure we can PM here. Check out Morone Swimbaits. Been around for a long time but have not done many videos. Love to have some local support. My Heelers name is Stormy he would love to meet Lucy sometime. I would love to join you sometime but understand solo fishing with a heeler. Really the best way to do it!
flipper tail
So cool to see someone's view of the river other than our own. The dog is such a gem
Thanks for watching. Yes Lucy is the fishing buddy
ps queensland rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree. Thanks for checking out the video
so much fun
What area of the sac river is this? Looks pretty far north
Above Butte City
Really nice video. Great fish! Where off of 70 are you?
Well done
Wow what a truly Epic striper, i'm just starting to get into glide baits I see that you run snap connector is that better than tying direct.
It’s personal preference. Some baits definitely swim better with a snap or split ring. It’s a lot easier to change lures with a snap so I use them with glide baits, sometimes with a-rigs. I direct tie with soft baits
You in Tennessee?
Like ur dogs excitement!
Pretty fishy place ive fished feather out of Orville but never the north fork.
I love it up there. But it’s definitely a challenge
Well done, beautiful job landing and releasing.
Wow, great intro footage!
Dam nice catch the dog didn't flinch like don't let em get away 45" and you let it swim away for next week
Thanks for checking out the video
I grew up on hamilton branch! There are some Big ones in there for sure. Try floating A grasshopper
Beautiful creek. Even though they're small it's still fun on the lighter rods.
For sure
This is true big glidebaits/swimbaits. You see all these kids videos say giant swimbait catches monster bass. They are throwing a six inch bait and catch a four pounder. 😊
Im some areas those are big baits and big fish. Im lucky to have these fish where I live. Thanks for checking out the video.
I understand that thought process. I am biased in my feelings on this.I live in an area where I can go to a local lake and have the opportunity to catch a double digit. Apart of me still feels like In this scenario I may not call a 4 pounder a monster though. Knowing that there are true monsters else where. I could be wrong. I throughly enjoy your content. I want to eventually target giant stripers on giant swimbaits. I'm glad I can learn from others who have done it before me.
@@tkettle13 thanks for the kind comments. If I where you I would start by chasing striper boils and fishing with live minnows up too 18” long. Once you figure out where the stripers are, then try throwing some lures.
What an incredible animal
How far did you let the lure drop? Or was it on the surface?
Depends on the water you are fishing. This was in 3ft of water. Sometimes I let it sink just out of sight
nice nice nice video, strap a go pro on the dog love him/her
nice one colby! dog is living its best life! unwrapped the plastic off the rod. LOL :) GREAT SMALL CREEK JOB!
It’s bad luck to unwrap the handle first trip out
It looked pretty fun, except for maybe getting all your equipment wet. Good job Colby!😎🎣
Thanks Old School. Yeah phone, keys, and camera stuff dried out just fine. I had lots of fun fishing up there
I could really see you start to get the timing of that glass rod down near the end. Looked like a killer fun day despite they all being small
Took some time getting use to that rod for sure. The rod is really short and slow action. So it’s hard to generate good line speed with only a few feet of fly line outside of the rod tip. I was surprised how many small fish are up there without there being anything in the 15-16” range.
Headed up there next week. Still running pretty high eh?
Water levels are really good right now. I explored everywhere and there are fish throughout the whole system
@@colbymyers6278 Below the falls or above?
Glad I got to see that beautiful bow. That was a fun and challenging laydown
I love fishing the river! But mostly fish knights landing area. You're and awesome angler
Thanks for the kind words. I just love to fish and spend a lot of time on the water
Can't beat that Colby!😎🎣
Such a fun place to fish. Dry fly action is amazing there.
I threw a hopper and beetle for awhile but no action
@colbymyers6278 if you get a chance to go back, try a Pink Cahill. Size 16-18. In some of my first videos on YT, that's what I was using. Was there Monday before last using it and it's like they can't resist haha. Sweet catch by the way.
got a 28 incher out of mill creek when mill bridge was still there
I really enjoy watching your dogs. Excellent videos.
Thanks for the watching! They love fishing
