    I legitimately dont think there is another sports league in existence more deserving of a 12 team playoffs. Name another league where undefeated teams have missed the playoffs?

    • @commodorezero
      @commodorezero 10 місяців тому +8

      The playoffs should have expanded but 12 teams was too much and the specific format was designed around conference championship games which are there to make money first and foremost. 6 was the perfect format IMO. Could give the top 2 a bye to maintain the integrity of the regular season while ensuring every truly great team made it. How often are people bummed the 7th or 8th best team didn't play for a national title?

      @@commodorezeroit’s not too much considering that if you apply to the 21 century bcs era and the 4 team era most of the teams that get in are undefeated teams, 1 loss teams, or 2 losses teams that were really good. I believe that people like you listened to media too much when they were trying to prevent it. The 12 team playoff would’ve happened this year if it weren’t for the ACC. The worst record in the playoff would’ve been Missouri,Ole miss, and Penn state. The rest were either undefeated or had 1 loss

      @@ItsdemontimeDarius The reason 12 teams was adopted because it makes all the conferences happy and could get an unanimous vote. Something better was not going to get an unanimous vote and the 12 team playoff was voted down because some conference leaders thought they could get a better system opposed to not being willing to take the 12 team model. Which is why they changed their votes when they realized they could not improve on the proposal. But you're saying they were wrong because there were consequences to their stand not because their stand wasn't logical or for the good of the sport.

    It'll be better, but I don't understand why college football doesn't adapt something like the system from college hockey. Conference winners get auto-bids, and a known (even if the NCAA will *never* admit it) ranking system determines the rest. Everyone, even the smaller schools, get a shot by winning their conference and the teams that don't know exactly where they stand where as the season goes on. No "smoke-filled rooms," none of this pointless crap about whether sportsmanship should count, no "but X team only played Y teams" garbage.
    That system works. The teams that make it are still plenty good, there are still plenty of upsets by smaller schools, and I can't think if a year where I felt like a team was left out that deserved to be in. You still have all the debate and excitement, it's just shifted to where teams get seeded and folks coming up with crazy scenarios various teams need to make it.

    • @commodorezero
      @commodorezero 10 місяців тому +1

      College hockey is not built around every individual regular season game being semi single elimination. That's why college football has been the most difficult to reform. Also the "smoke filled room" is because footballs BCS was widely criticized back in the day. The criticism wasn't really about the BCS so much as there only being 2 teams but thats the reason.

    Chris spot on about the best team doesn’t always win it in college basketball. It’s literally just a tournament where 1 game knocks ya out, just like how most the teams that win their conference championship aren’t the best team either in their conference. Virginia Tech wasn’t close to the best team in the ACC and Kentucky was easily the best team in the nation when they only lost 1 game all year and it was in the final 4 to Wisconsin. 9/10 times they play Kentucky would’ve smoked them, that’s why the NBA plays 7 game series because they know a team could have an off night or a bad team gets hot. Best team usually wins the series

    • @Matt-cr4vv

      That’s what makes a championship special. You have to show up and play when called, even if you’re usually the better team. Stacking the system to protect the better teams so you get desired results takes a ton of what’s special away from a postseason for me.

    The last comment in this video is why I think 12 is a little silly. I’m all for it vs 4, but I think 8 is the real limit of who you’re putting in there that can POSSIBLY beat the other 7.
    Sure, anything can and DOES happen. But there’s not a ton of 2 loss teams that are going to beat your undefeateds.

    • @Matt-cr4vv
      @Matt-cr4vv 10 місяців тому

      Why is that an issue though? If you’re the better team then show up and win like you’re supposed to. But if you’re a good team like let’s say Bama last year who had two losses by so little they genuinely would’ve been competitive.

    If we keep conference title games (especially now that there won’t be divisions so the best two teams always play), just make it the conference winner from each conference (including non power 5) goes to the playoff. Rank them the way the BCS currently ranks teams. Keeps every game as super important.

      @@anthonyboles5905 We will lose a number of guys, but a significant number of 2nd and 3rd string players got plenty of playing time this season. The unknown is the QB position and the coach's status. If both return, Michigan will be among the top teams. If both leave, it will be difficult -- which will likely put us in the top 5 in the conference. That means, it will be important for Michigan to win vs. Texas early next year.

    This is the first year we have seen a need for an expanded playoff. Undoubtedly Florida State was left out in the cold, and hard to fathom Georgia being exiled. There will always be those teams on the cusp that will argue that they should be in the CFP, whether it is a 4-team, or 12-team CFP. A 12-team let’s too many into the tournament, thus minimizing the importance of the season schedule. The real Truth of the matter is there will be a ton of additional revenue made from 12 teams. The ideal solution is an 8-team playoff, which this year would have been the 4 undefeated’s, and the 4 1-loss teams, with a format taking into account the conference championship results. The end result should make the CFP quite a spectacle.

  • @ld4974

    You don't need a 12 team playoff. Just treat the conference championships as playin games. There is only one national champion and it's hard to argue that you deserve a shot when you don't even win your conference championship. The 4 team playoff was fine, but that ship has sailed.

    Such a stupid way to get the same result in the end. 12 team format is ridiculous. We are going to have two or three loss teams compete against undefeated teams. The college playoffs was designed to limit the controversy of which teams are the top two. Not make an NFL style system. '24 and '25 playoffs are already tied to the bowls
    but starting in '26 the CFP can make the regular season mean A LOT by awarding the top 2 seeded teams home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
    how's that for making every single regular season game an absolute must win?
    home field advantage throughout the playoffs will satisfy the argument that some have about whether the best team actually won the national title.
    if the committee has decided that the top 2 ranked teams are the 2 best teams at the end of the regular season, their opinions will have a greater chance of being validated because those 2 teams will have home field advantage.
    the best way to ensure the regular season retains it's importance is to award the higher ranked teams a home game during their playoff run.
    tha national title game will still occur at a neutral site.

    I strongly disagree about needing a 12 team playoff. What NEEDS to happen is a nationwide conference realignment. 4 super conferences (combining all of the power 5 schools into 4 new conferences), and having a 4 team playoff in each conference right after the regular season to determine each of the 4 conference champs. Then those 4 conference champs compete in the CFP playoff like it is today. That’s the fairest way to get the best 4 in this sport.
