That’s true. But when you’re getting to over 60k miles you might be lookin at replacing struts anyway. But you’re correct, you definitely increase the likelihood of blowing them out the higher mileage you have in the factory struts-especially if you drive aggressively on a regular basis.
To avoid blowing your shocks get ones that are meant to be used with lowering springs, like the Koni Sport (which have dampening capability) or Bilstein B8

Good vid SCS, you remind me why I would prefer Springs. I installed TEIN springs on my 1996 Nissan 200SX SER back when I was a pup but those springs were not Progressive rate springs, they were 2.5 in drop springs and they were sheet, the springs would bottom out all the time. There was an option for a street setup that was progressive rate but it was only 1.2 in drop, I wish I went for those. My next 200SX SER had Eibach progressive rate springs 1.2 in street drop and those were phenomenal. Now that I am a little older and I have a 16" Q50 RS I would want a mild "Progressive rate" spring set up so I do not mess with the expensive adjustable ride suspension setup it came with. , there really is a difference with the adjustable suspension and I am not a hardcore tracker, so a street spring setup makes sense for me.
Currently at 75k on my Q50 s Hybrid, my shocks and struts need replacement coils will be the way to go. They aren’t too many options out there so by the time you order OEM stuff you’ll be easy at 1k. Not to mention coils will destroy OEM stuff on adjustability and ride quality. On my opinion replacing only springs it’s just cheap.
If your shocks are already bad, I always recommend just going to coils because as you said, replacing factory parts is just as expensive anyway. Ride quality is a different subject--coils do not "improve" ride quality. You will definitely notice a rougher ride, but if you're going for handling, that is expected. Going with springs is not being cheap. For 99% of people, it's all they need. Improved handling, nicer stance, and retaining most of the factory ride quality. It doesnt make sense for them to spend $1500 on coilovers when they will never adjust them, never drive the car hard enough to need them, and don't care for the harsher ride. It's just a shame that Q50 shocks blow out so easily.

What lower spring would you recommend for a 2015 Qx50 it’s just my daily small pulls cruise the city and just for looks , 55k miles on it ! Thanks brotha
I don’t see many options for the QX but H&R is good. Any of the typical brands-eibach, tein etc would all be good options if they are available for that vehicle
@@SpeedCultureStudios I did actually only see H&R being offered for lower springs that actually says will fit my year & model just wasn’t sure if they were solid brand or what and the price wasn’t to bad on them ! But I the g37 ones were also nice and had more options! But isn’t springs just springs because it says how much it will lower anyways ? so like would it actually matter if I picked one up for a g37 or q50?
@@vciq H&R is an excellent brand. I ran them on my mustangs back in the day. And no, springs are not just springs. Spring perches can be different shapes on different vehicles. @@johnbowman4844 They are honestly great! I bought BC racing coilovers and I have to say they give the handling that the car really needs. I have an AWD and it’ll go through some tight turns effortlessly. Definitely worth the price to me!
@@SpeedCultureStudios currently i’m on lowering springs. No idea what brand or exactly how low (not dramatically low but LOW) because the person who i bought it from had no idea either 😆 but being in queens & long island NY, it’s TERRIBLE! These roads are garbage and i can pretty much feel a hard thud every other second and bottom out my front bumper from a small speed bump 🤢 That being said, i’m hoping BC coilovers can make up for that issue while still being relatively low
How’s it going .. I have a q50 also so I got wheels and the stick out just a little bit past the fenders so when ppl get in the back it drops down so I wanted to know what do you suggest going with coilovers or Tein springs?
Springs will be more stiff than factory, but also significantly lower. Are you afraid of rubbing or what is the question? Obviously coils are adjustable so you can make them quite stiff.
Well what I want is the car not to sag down so much so I don’t know if they sell stronger springs That can Hold all the weight in the back or do I just have to go with Coilovers and raise it up some so it to hold the weight of the passengers
jose cruz I mean if you put 200+ pounds in the back of a sedan, the suspension is going to sag slightly. But yeah, if you don’t want it to move, Coilovers would be the best.
The springs won’t be an issue, but it seems logical that the shocks will wear out faster. However, for as many people that have lowering springs, it seems the vast majority don’t experience any issues for several years. There are always one off cases, but for the most part they are just fine.
People always assume coilovers will ride better than spring/shock combo for a daily. Coilovers will always have a stiffer ride. Here's a tip - if your car has over 50,000 miles GET NEW SHOCKS and install with the lowering springs or you will blow your stock shocks.
Speed Culture Studios damn thanks and another thing I should probably get new shocks since these haven’t been changed since the car was made it’s a 2010?
Speed Culture Studios ah ok. I was thinking about lowering my AWD Q50 3.0t on lowering springs but I’ve heard of the issues that Boost In Motion so I was curious
Tim Manning I’m not sure exactly how low he went, but as far as I know, there are a ton of lowered awd guys out there not having problems. I would imagine a moderate drop would be fine.
You can get lowering springs, but just know that your shocks have a limited amount of life left in them the way it is, so lowering the car will just put more strain on them.
The Tein Flex Z setup was shit when I first got it installed. Anyone who says it's a good setup probably has never had good coil overs before (no I don't consider BC a better product). I have to run them full stiff to have any sort of confidence on them and i still find them to be too soft. I think they are slightly better than the stock Luxe suspension but lets be honest I really got them to lower my car and I probably could have just got RSR super downs
Great input. I don’t personally have experience with the Tein Coilovers but have been extremely pleased with the sTech springs over the last year. They have performed as well and ride as nicely as any others out there. Question though, why is a ride at full stiffness what gives you confidence? Max stiffness is not always the best setting. Being too stiff can obviously have negative consequences when it comes to lateral traction as well as in straight line racing. You’re saying that even at max stiffness, the tein cools were still not stiff enough? Did you have them too stiff, perhaps? Just curious.

Not going to close the wheel gap without lowering. Just get some springs with a mild drop. Having a baby shouldn’t stop you from lowering the car. Mine rides almost as well as stock even with 19s.
What wheels are those
What lower spring would you recommend for a 2015 Qx50 it’s just my daily small pulls cruise the city and just for looks , 55k miles on it !
Spring lengths will matter. Spring rates are extremely important--they may drop a 3800lb car 2 inches, but what about a 4800lb car? Not the same. It's possible that there is some overlap, but I just don't know for certain.
@@SpeedCultureStudios awesome answer and point of view thank you as always ! You’re great ! I see what you mean there’s a couple things to consider when picking the correct spring I think I might just consider those h&r since it’s really the only one and for the cost they look pretty clean ! Thank you
I have 75k miles on my q50 awd. Will my car be okay on springs or upgrade to coilovers due to higher mileage?
Hard to say. You have to try and determine the condition of your current shocks.
What kind of wheels are those?
DR53
What percentage are your taillight tints?
They are sprayed. 4 coats VHT wet sanded and cleared-6 coats of clear then polished.
Speed Culture Studios Nice! Thanks man! 🙌🏾
I got mines to get lower than my current RSR springs
Retro Japan hows the ride quality on the lowering springs?
No real noticeable difference for me aside from the height
@@deaddragonnjo5501 How as the install? I heard the back is a pain but is it really?
I have a 2015 Q50. I wanna tighten up the suspension. What do you recommend
Lowering springs or Coilovers depending on how stiff you want to go. Hotchkis sway bars make a huge difference
@@SpeedCultureStudios Thank you so much for your input.
@@SpeedCultureStudios i have awd. Should I do front and rear sway bars?
@@georgevillanueva4412 yes, but the rear will give you the most improvement so if you only want to do 1, go rear. The front on the awd is pretty strong already
@@SpeedCultureStudios ok. Cool. Awesome
What's the best lowering springs for my Infiniti m37x AWD? I really dont want any wheel gap and I have 22s on the car as well please help anyone.😫
I was thinking about getting coil overs for my hundred thousand miles G 37 sedan I’d rather get lowering springs for the cost but I’m worried that my struts may be too old what do you think?.
At 100k they are probably getting toward the end of their life.
@@SpeedCultureStudios adding on this I’m throwing new struts (away bar end links and tie rods too) on my m35 and wanna make it handle slightly better. What do you mean by driving “auto cross” and breaking the shocks, with the springs?
@@connorking6852 autocross racing. Tight corners lots of pressure on the shocks
@@SpeedCultureStudios well I wanna have a little fun but it’s a daily, no drifting or track etc… you think I should be good with just coils over aftermarket struts?
Thanks for the info... What type and size tires for your setup?
275/35 rear
255/40 front
Lexani LX20. Great budget performance tire for daily and even spirited driving. Not good for straight line racing from a dig.
Swift springs blew both OEM shocks in 4 months. Hello Fortune 500
What wheels are those bro
DR53
I got GoodSpeed coilover 😁 its fit my budget they are good 👍
How do they feel ?
What size are your tires in the video
275/35/19 rear 255/40/19 front
Would Rwd coils work on awd q50 rs?
I don't think so
Hey brother quick question? What percentage, brand and type of tint do you have on all the windows?
Romeo Romero-Gomez It’s 20% tiny, but I don’t know the brand.
I just want to know how you're getting almost 25mpg 😂 I only get 22 on my 2018 if I'm lucky, usually 21.6 to be exact.
lol, average about 21
I just bought Coilovers the other day so imma try them out 😋
Devin King let me know how you like them!
Speed Culture Studios will do! I’ve heard a lot of positives about the BC coilovers so I am very hopeful!
5 months later, whats the verdict?
@@johnbowman4844 They are honestly great! I bought BC racing coilovers and I have to say they give the handling that the car really needs. I have an AWD and it’ll go through some tight turns effortlessly. Definitely worth the price to me!
For terribly bumpy roads, you suggest putting coilovers on soft setting? I live in NY 😬
Softer will make it ride slightly better but if you’re super low you might have rubbing issues
@@SpeedCultureStudios currently i’m on lowering springs. No idea what brand or exactly how low (not dramatically low but LOW) because the person who i bought it from had no idea either 😆 but being in queens & long island NY, it’s TERRIBLE! These roads are garbage and i can pretty much feel a hard thud every other second and bottom out my front bumper from a small speed bump 🤢
That being said, i’m hoping BC coilovers can make up for that issue while still being relatively low
Ok thanks 🙏🏼
Springs only going to last you so long. You'll be replacing more than you think in the long run. Just my 2 cents.
What about if I have high miles and im getting coilovers? Will my shocks be fine
Mines already blew cant even put my 1 finger in the gap
I’m thinking about getting lowering springs for my g37x but it’s AWD so idk how low I should go? Any suggestions?
a moderate 1 - 1.25" drop is just about right in my opinion. It gives an aggressive appearance, but should allow you to remain within alignment spec.
Speed Culture Studios thanks man
Speed Culture Studios you think the Megan racing springs are any good? I can’t find TEIN lowering springs for my AWD G37
Angel del campo I haven’t heard anyone talk about their experience with Megan racing springs. Sorry.
Speed Culture Studios damn thanks and another thing I should probably get new shocks since these haven’t been changed since the car was made it’s a 2010?
How u feel bout AirLift
Definitely gives you adjustability, but it’s heavy and not practical for a performance car
*me watching directly AFTER i bought coilovers*
You’ll be happy with them though!
Is your Q50 RWD or AWD?
rwd.
My car is at 115,000 miles. Is it still a good idea to get lowering springs? If so what’s a recommended setup?
Yeah for sure a nice stance man just sexy 2 be honest U can confuse it @ very first with that alpha romeo they came out with in the US ,
Thanks!
Hi VQ gang, so wa should I really go into my 09M35 146K Pls help message or some miracle pls

First that’s not entirely true lol.
Second not everyone that drives a sporty car wants to feel like they are in a lumber wagon.
A lot of your advice is more opinionated and factual mechanic of 25 years here
Not really sure what you’re referring to exactly. It’s factual that a vast majority of people will ever require Coilovers unless they are truly looking for adjustability. Modifying cars and participating in auto sports for 20 years…
