Your set up sounds 10x better than the $2000 shockwave system. Good job. I can't wait to get my 2020 Q50 RS because I'll be duplicating this. I have a feeling it sounds so good is because you are using aluminized pipe instead of stainless steel which I feel leads to drone. I had 92 SHO with it's lovely 3.0L Yamaha built motor. I built a custom 2.5" exhaust with flex tubing which was necessary to keep the system from yanking itself apart due to the transversely mounted motor and aluminized Dynomax turbo mufflers. The system made the V6 sounds like a V8, everyone loved it and it sounded way better than the Borla system made for the car, which was stainless steel, and was soooo much cheaper, cost me around $150 to do as opposed to $1000 for the Borla. It allowed the car to breathe and it was able to run 165mph with a tune.

Hello, I’m planning to get this setup on my car and I’m concerned about few things 1) Does this setup effect on performance or milage? 2) Should I get a tune after this exhaust?
@@SpeedCultureStudios I have one more question. There is a brace (metal plate) underneath the center of the body in the exact same place where you have placed the Borla muffler (as showe in the video). Have you bolted it back at the place after your custom exhaust?
Is there any place I can find the flanges?ebay is out of stock for 2 months. I have the whole setup except the flanges.or is there something similar I can use? Thanks
check with your exhaust shop of choice. they may stock them or know where to get them. Internet search might get you some places outside of ebay or amazon too.
I built this exhaust for my Q50 but found there to be good amount of resonance in cabin in the 2000-2700 RPM range. So, I added some 1/4 wave resonator pipes to each branch after the x-pipe resonator and it's way quieter in cabin at those specific RPM ranges. I used ~27" as my desired length for the 2" resonators. Posting for those who might want to eliminate their potential resonance. 27" length is only for ~125-135 Hz resonance...
Some sound deadener on the trunk floor goes a long way as well. But 2000-2700 is a wide range for drone with this system. I’m a bit surprised. After about 2 full years of breaking in, my drone range with resonated test pipes is 1900 - 2100rpm.
Hi Sean, I'm looking to do some quarter wave resonators as well. Do you mind me asking how much you paid to have them done? Provided you took them to a shop and didn't do them yourself. Cheers!
@@alf2633 I had a 'friend' discount and helped so cost will vary but IIRC the tubing was less than $150 and labor was 2 hours max. I think all in I was around $900-1000 but didn't get 'crush' bent tubing. I'd suspect 1/4 wave resonators to be $200-300 installed.

I could not find one for my car based on your details to put between the borla and the Upower resonators in the end. Thank you!

I got the speed culture studios CBE without the resonators right now. Getting non resonated test pipes installed tomorrow any thoughts on how it may sound?
@@SpeedCultureStudios Just purchased all the stuff. I'm thinking of adding B0100-Q50S2, Infiniti axle back exhaust, After the Flow FX for hopefully a bit deeper tone. I'll take vids and link them to you when finished
Do you think the magnaflow without flowmasters would be TOO loud? or do the flowmasters make a big difference in sound? (don’t wanna go with borla because i heard they go bad a lot lol)
Not too loud necessarily (although subjective) it will be a bit raspy if you have test pipes. Borla has had some quality issues lately - with over 3000 people with this setup I’ve only heard of a few problems lately, but the magnaflow is a solid alternative
I just got this installed yesterday and it has completely renewed my excitement to drive this everyday. It sounds even better in person than it does on the videos!
Hey! quick question, i have a 3.7, is it worth doing if you are only willing to install it on stock cats? i see some of your more recent comments saying its similiar to stock sound with cats. i just want a good exhuast note as well as a boost in loudness. Thanks appreciate it i love all your videos, youre the man!
2 questions 1. is the performance gain from running test pipes versus running stock cats significant? (i know it won't be as loud) 2. if i were to install this with test pipes and not tune it for 1-2 months, would that damage my car in any way?
You could expect probably a 10hp difference after tuning with cats vs test pipes. Obviously cats keep you street legal. People have installed test pipes and waiting a few months to tune. It’s not ideal but the car would likely survive if you don’t race it too hard in that period.
No. It has to match your cat/test pipes which is 2 bolt. Check with the exhaust shop you plan to go to. They may have them stocked or have a source for them.
Towards the end of the video you mention that there’s another pipe needed for the install what kind of pipe is needed? I got quoted $500 for install was yours $150 with the pipes?
Where do you install your flex pipes i couldnt see it in your cars under carriage picture, also whats a good price? A shop near me they do good work but are charging 500 for test pipes install and all the tubing and install of everything? Is that a decent price atleast?....man im about to just drive to nc from okc...these guys fucking suck around here😂
Flex goes in the same spot as it does from factory. Right after the cats. $500 for all that is good. Most shops charge $200 to install test pipes alone.
Im worried the resonators i got may be too long for where you have them placed, I got vibrant 1793 resonators i believe they are around 19” long... what do you think??
With the flanges on Amazon did you order one or two of them? In the pictures they’re bolted together and I was wondering if you could separate them and use them separate or if you had to order 2
@@SpeedCultureStudios Yeah I have test pipes but it sounds pretty muffled, Before i had this exhaust it was really loud, Right now it just sounds muffled while driving and revs, What do you think?
It's a good thing you're not in Europe. Nothing more than an oil change gets done in a day here and you can't throw money at the mechanic to make him work faster. I can't imagine how long my shop in Germany will take to install such a system.
That’s too bad! It’s typical for mechanics to have a standard rate, but guys at exhaust shops aren’t “mechanics” per se and typically bid/quote jobs based on how long they think it’ll take. I guess we are fortunate here to have shops that would prefer to finish as many jobs as possible in a day in order to increase profit!
@@SpeedCultureStudios Ok, because i was thinking of doing a muffler delete and then putting the magnaflow alternative that u linked as the “resonator”, but didn’t know if they would do it because of the quarter inch.
I wish I could find a local shop to build this for me. I would even be willing to pay 800, but nope I got quoted 1500. They said 600 a side because it is like doing two exhausts and the y pipe part is an extra 300 because of flex pipe, what a fluke. If there are any recommendations for Albuquerque, NM. Im All ears
my exhaust shop really told me $600 for exhaust install and $250 for test pipes install, $850 total that's wayy too much. So if anyone knows a cheaper exhaust shop in South Fl leave me a comment plz lol
I am slightly confused. I already have a muffler delete and test pipes and it’s a lil bit bit raspy. Can I just replace my stock resonators with the flowmaster fx and it’ll eliminate some the rasp ?
Did you heat wrap your down pipe? I noticed your y-pipe or section that represents your y-pipe isn’t wrapped anymore like your previous video. Has that caused any added heat soak or heat under and inside the cabin of the car? Have you noticed less torque or acceleration do to less heat scavenging?
My test pipes are wrapped. The y pipe was wrapped only to prevent heat transfer into the cabin, but that has not been an issue at all. You will not notice a power difference with or without heat wrap.
Does the placing of the resonators and borla muffler matter? I do have a Y pipe with resonators was wondering if I can just use that and slap the borla somewhere behind with same effect. Noobie here obvs
Awd people have set it up exactly how I have it. Other shops have been afraid to do it or couldn’t tuck the muffler enough, so installing it in reverse, like in the drawing, is a good option, yes.
Quick question, my g37 sedans oem exhaust diameter is 2.25in. Will the 2.5in that your setup has change the performance? I've been reading around about wider pipes reducing backpressure resulting in loss of low-end power. Which i really enjoy
man the way you explained this i feel i can do it myself

@@SpeedCultureStudios I have one more question. There is a brace (metal plate) underneath the center of the body in the exact same place where you have placed the Borla muffler (as showe in the video). Have you bolted it back at the place after your custom exhaust?
@@nithinyadav8813 nope just removed it. Or you can use spacers if it doesn’t fit back up
Is there any place I can find the flanges?ebay is out of stock for 2 months.
Cheers!
@@SpeedCultureStudios I've got stock cats FWIW.
@@seancallahan2730 Hi Sean! I am having exactly the same issue on my car, installed 2 days ago and the ~2400rpm drone in the city just kills me, I would not even mind if it was a bit quieter as well all togedher.
Can you name please which resonator exactly you used that worked good for our issue? I could not find one for my car based on your details to put between the borla and the Upower resonators in the end.
Thank you!
Hey speed cultures ive got berk test pipes and a Z1 Y pipe can I still do the SCS kit and pair it with my Y pipe
Yes you can simply use the y pipe instead of getting the borla mid muffler
@@kurthigdon8829 that's what I ended up doing I'm using my Y pipe and using 2 vibrant street power mufflers back to dual exhaust tips if the sound is a little to much I'm gonna add some resonators. But my appointment is scheduled for Monday so I'll upload a sound clip when it's done 👍🏿
@@lyndoncobb7077 it should sound pretty good it might be a bit quieter than the scs catback. If it drones too much you can throw on the resonators.
Saw the other exhaust vids. Good job on this one. Straight forward to the point with great detail. The pics and drawing was a nice touch. What is the name and location of your exhaust shop if u don't me asking? Located in Va. Have family out your way. Shop looks like they did a good job. Proper alignment and placement. Looks good. Sounds good.
Thank you! Shop is Inman Muffler in Inman SC. They are good guys and car guys so they care about doing good work. Check them out on Facebook, they get some awesome cars going through that shop!!
Appreciate the reply. Thank you
Ara Rinderle no problem
Anyone tried this on a awd?
Yes a lot of peoples!
Awesome video! If I just order those parts you listed and bring them to the shop, should they be able to take care of the rest? I don’t know much about exhausts, so I wouldn’t know how to tell them what I want.
Yes. If you just show them the picture I included, they’ll know what to do.
Speed Culture Studios Thank you so much! pretty much every “mod” i’ve added to my q has come from your videos.
Cool Woeta glad to have you following along man!
@@SpeedCultureStudios where is this picture? i just ordered all the parts for this setup.
I got the speed culture studios CBE without the resonators right now. Getting non resonated test pipes installed tomorrow any thoughts on how it may sound?
Raspy!
Sounds beautiful as always. I can't wait to do this setup.
You’ll love it!!
So awesome to hear!!
what’d you ask the shop you went to?
Hey! quick question, i have a 3.7, is it worth doing if you are only willing to install it on stock cats? i see some of your more recent comments saying its similiar to stock sound with cats. i just want a good exhuast note as well as a boost in loudness. Thanks appreciate it i love all your videos, youre the man!
No it’s not. Just do a muffler delete if you’re looking for more volume
2 questions
1. is the performance gain from running test pipes versus running stock cats significant? (i know it won't be as loud)
2. if i were to install this with test pipes and not tune it for 1-2 months, would that damage my car in any way?
You could expect probably a 10hp difference after tuning with cats vs test pipes. Obviously cats keep you street legal.
People have installed test pipes and waiting a few months to tune. It’s not ideal but the car would likely survive if you don’t race it too hard in that period.
@@SpeedCultureStudios ahh okay, thanks!
Anyone know if this is carb legal in Cali?
Probably not 😢😅
anybody in SoCal know of a good shop for this?
The oval flange you listed is out of stock, would a triangle flange work or no?
No. It has to match your cat/test pipes which is 2 bolt. Check with the exhaust shop you plan to go to. They may have them stocked or have a source for them.
@@SpeedCultureStudios gotchu and what would be a reasonable price for a shop to charge for this job?
thank you so much im ordering this asap, what test pipes do you have?
Top Speed Resonated
Speed Culture Studios just looked them up and they were discontinued 😢
Speed Culture Studios any other recommendations on test pipes, I wanted to order the top speed as well but are discontinued? Thanks
Hinder Portillo berk, isr, Fast intentions
Towards the end of the video you mention that there’s another pipe needed for the install what kind of pipe is needed? I got quoted $500 for install was yours $150 with the pipes?
The pipe I referred to is just the additional pipe needed to tie everything together. Prices were a lot cheaper before Covid when I had mine installed
Do all these components work for AWD G37 sedan? Worried about transfer case clearance
Yes, the set up works for all wheel drive. Several hundred people with all-wheel-drive have this installed already.
Do u think the magnaflow muffler will have the same sound
It sounds slightly different because it is smaller than the borla. A little bit of rasp in it--its a bit more aggressive.
I just bought a 2015 q50 and I’m thinking of doing this but will it be legal in California?
California is crazy.
Im worried the resonators i got may be too long for where you have them placed, I got vibrant 1793 resonators i believe they are around 19” long... what do you think??
They’ll fit!
Hey SCS love your vids but quick question, do you think it would sound good if I got vibrant resonators instead of the Borla muffler?
With test pipes it needs a large resonator like the borla or magnaflow otherwise it will be very raspy
Has anything changed on this setup? Might be doing this setup on my 2012 g37s sedan
I’ve just been recommending the magna flow alternative as Borla has had some quality issues lately.
If u fo the 370 set up option on the q50 does it give u same sounds compared to the borla replacement at the y pipe?
Yes.
It sounds very muffled like it’s behind a door. Is that the mic or does it sound like that
No it doesn’t
Can u please explain the differences between the Borla and the magnaflow. Does the manga flow sound raspy?
It’s a bit smaller so it may have a touch of rasp. Still sounds great though. Just depends what you’re going for
Thank you so much
How many decibels for this exhaust system ? I’m in California 😢
I have no idea
With the flanges on Amazon did you order one or two of them? In the pictures they’re bolted together and I was wondering if you could separate them and use them separate or if you had to order 2
Yes, it’s just 1 set. It’s a pair so you only need 1
How would this setup sound on a 2014-2015 q50 3.7 hybrid
Same
The ebay link for the muffler doesnt work. I was wondering if you could update it to make sure i am purchasing the right one?
try searching borla xs pro muffler
Will this flanges work with my ams 3.0 lower downpipe and my 2.5 exhaust?
Should
Does this exhaust have a Break In period? I just got it done but it sounds muffled? Im practically full bolt on im just wondering why its so quiet
It does take a bit to break in further. If you have test pipes it should not sound muffled
@@SpeedCultureStudios Yeah I have test pipes but it sounds pretty muffled, Before i had this exhaust it was really loud, Right now it just sounds muffled while driving and revs, What do you think?
@@maury3299 give it a few days to open up. the packing material will start to break down
I did this setup nd a big problem im having is the exhaust vibrating way to much anyway I can fix it?
Did you use flex pipe? What do you mean by vibrating?
Hello man, Im new to all this. I just want to ask, if I buy all those parts, do I just talk to the shop man and theyd know what to do?
Yes
It's a good thing you're not in Europe. Nothing more than an oil change gets done in a day here and you can't throw money at the mechanic to make him work faster. I can't imagine how long my shop in Germany will take to install such a system.
That’s too bad! It’s typical for mechanics to have a standard rate, but guys at exhaust shops aren’t “mechanics” per se and typically bid/quote jobs based on how long they think it’ll take. I guess we are fortunate here to have shops that would prefer to finish as many jobs as possible in a day in order to increase profit!
If the g37 sedan has 2.25 inch piping, will the 2.5 inch borla muffler still fit it?
The shop can make an adapter or setup-down or you can buy them to match at the weld point.
@@SpeedCultureStudios Ok, because i was thinking of doing a muffler delete and then putting the magnaflow alternative that u linked as the “resonator”, but didn’t know if they would do it because of the quarter inch.
@@jackeason2732 you can make anything happen!
Hey would the pro Xs 400286 turbo xl be the same part?
The xl is not the same but it may still fit. It’s a little longer
Im All ears
That’s ridiculous! It’s a 45 minute job!!
my exhaust shop really told me $600 for exhaust install and $250 for test pipes install, $850 total that's wayy too much. So if anyone knows a cheaper exhaust shop in South Fl leave me a comment plz lol
250 for test pipe install is typical. That’s a bitch job lol. But $600 for catback is obnoxious. Hope you find a decent shop.
Will this work with ISR high flow cats? I thought they were 3" diameter
Yes it will work. And no, I believe they are 2.5". I have not seen any 3" test pipes or HFCs for this platform.
Can you Put a diagram for how this would look like on a 2015 Q60S AWD?
Looks the same
I just received my borla i selected it from the link you provided. I am just curious. I would like to know is it suppose to look like this.
Yes it is. It’s a muffler. Unless it’s all bashed in and messed up
hey i just had a quick question, where would the flex pipes be connecting too?
They are welded inline right after the flanges. Just like in the factory y pipe
I am slightly confused. I already have a muffler delete and test pipes and it’s a lil bit bit raspy. Can I just replace my stock resonators with the flowmaster fx and it’ll eliminate some the rasp ?
It might help a little but not much. You can keep your factory resonators and add the flowfx resonators. That would be better
I just got a 2014 Q50 Hybird. Would this still work?
Should yes. I haven’t seen it done yet but it can be tailored to work with anything
Does the placing of the resonators and borla muffler matter? I do have a Y pipe with resonators was wondering if I can just use that and slap the borla somewhere behind with same effect. Noobie here obvs
Tone will be slightly different. You could cut the y pipe and put the borla where it should go and reuse your resonators instead of the flow fx
Hello sir, could you please tell me where you install this pipes, what the shop's name?
Mine was installed at Inman Muffler in Inman South Carolina
Wait so the drawing set up applies to awd cars?
Awd people have set it up exactly how I have it. Other shops have been afraid to do it or couldn’t tuck the muffler enough, so installing it in reverse, like in the drawing, is a good option, yes.
Quick question, my g37 sedans oem exhaust diameter is 2.25in. Will the 2.5in that your setup has change the performance? I've been reading around about wider pipes reducing backpressure resulting in loss of low-end power. Which i really enjoy
Without a tune you may feel a slight loss in torque. But it helps when tuned to achieve higher hp numbers
Is there a alternative that will keep the pipes 2.25? Will be doing this exhaust soon but I don’t really want to lose power as well
@@willwiththeg You can have the shop just use 2.25" pipe and they can flare it to fit the resonators.
I'm going to do the speed culture custom exhaust. I would like to know if I do the cat back. Do I have to get the car tuned?
car does not need to be tuned for the catback, but you'll need test pipes to sound like this--which will require a tune.
