    I've hit up Sun Valley myself a couple of times while roaming around Idaho and each time while I was there, I checked out the FREE disperse campsites just outside of town, however the number of flies at the time were so massive, I just didn't want to open my Van doors or windows, so I drove back into town and decided it was the perfect time to splurge and spend the cash for the luxury of AC in a hotel .. and order room service !!!

    There is euphoria in being clean after time in wilderness. Warm water flowing over a dirty and tired body, reveals how luxurious a daily shower really is. That same wet feeling when it is your shorts leaves one miserable and out of sorts. As water creatures (60% water) we are in a love hate relationship with the very element that gives us life. As always thank you for taking us along. 🥳🤭🫣

    Hi Naomi! I've been dealing with trigeminal neuralgia for the past few weeks and it's next to impossible to look at the cpu screen for more than a few minutes at a time.
    Very cool diner, maybe pancakes later 😋
    That bike mechanic broke a bike shops law of decency by not tending to a traveler. Travelers got top priority at my shop because they're on the road and it doesn't make sense to get a motel for a day or two for an hour or so on the bike stand! You're first, covid or not. At least you got to use the hose and brushes.
    Sorry about that rash on a big adventure,... bummer. Oops, Pun intended 😜 So glad you don't let Murphy ruin your good times.

    Bike touring tip for butt chafe, Brooks B-17 saddle and Patagonia mountain bike shorts commando style. For long touring days cycling short pads always get wet and chafe when you're on the bike all day, whereas thin light stretchy polyester shorts dry quick and breath well. Pick some with a very fine weave, four way stretch, super comfy with a Brooks.

    • @HumanontheLoose
      @HumanontheLoose  2 роки тому +1

      I have a Selle Anatomica that I used for season one but this trip I was trying a different saddle but I’m also on dual suspension with cushy tires. I had two style pads -one are the inserts from lose baggy mountain bike shorts the other is your typical road bike padded shorts. Both performed the same but they were not Patagonia. Always enjoy hearing about others experience. I’ll check them out!

    $20 for a day pass at the Y is outrageous. I work at a parks and rec gym in Meridian Idaho and a day pass here is only $4. Unfortunately if you were in Meridian you would basically be home and would have no need for our showers. If anyone out there is just passing through the Boise area and want a cheap shower though check out the Meridian Homecourt facility.

      Salsa Cutthroat Apex 1 but I’d swap out the tires for a tire you’ll see in the next video - next week (just couldn’t get the editing done in time for tmrw), and maybe a set of mustache handlebars if I was going to be using it on a lot of long hilly gravel/rocky rides. I think it’s the last video of season one where I go over the Cutthroat and share my problem with the drop bar style.

    Im curious how worried you are about leaving your bike for such long periods?
    Its an expensive bike but even more than that, all your stuff, and trip would be over if it were stolen. I dont enjoy the towns nearly enough because I wont leave my bike more than to run in, place a take out order and wait outside....

    • @HumanontheLoose
      @HumanontheLoose  2 роки тому +2

      I guess in my mind there are so many expensive bikes to choose to steal I can’t imagine choosing a heavy bike/bags attached all over it. They have no idea whether I have a tracker planted in a bag. Also… in these isolated towns it’s not as easy to drive off down an alleyway through a busy city with tons of people and cars everywhere. That’s why I don’t worry about it but I do get bike insurance when I take these trips. It covers me from my bike to my bags to my bike clothes even if I fall and they rip and it’s only $220 for the year.

    • @pgreenx
      @pgreenx 2 роки тому +1

      @@HumanontheLoose thanks. I called about insurance and it was ridiculously priced for me.

      Hiking is one small dirty smelly backpack that no one wants…..

    • @HumanontheLoose
      @HumanontheLoose  2 роки тому

      Try Velosurance. After they quote you for a year, since that’s the basic set up, ask what happens when you cancel after you return from your trip. You would get some money back I don’t know how much. This would help lower your cost. And as you know you can just walk with your bike and lock it right outside whatever place you’re in with a clear view. Grab a one dollar rain poncho from the drugstore and drape it over your bike so no one knows what’s under it and if they go to steal it it would be quite an eye catcher. There’s too many expensive bikes that people leave out that are easy to steal for someone to mess with a covered bikepacking bike.

    I hate everything that is a new fashion, so I hate "bike packing" because it aint honestly more than that. Get yourself a good old rack on your backwheel and the good old panniers like they did it for decades. You will have more than enough space to store whatever you want. And you show everybody you re an invidual who gives a shit about the latest b&llshit. Thats at least what I am doin😅🤣😂by the way, the thing under/behind your saddle, we call it assrocket, here in Germany...ARSCHRAKETE

      Lol, to funny and true.
      Now saying that, after decades of cycle touring I’ve just completed the trailer for my new Ebike, first trip next week, it’s beyond heavy, but I’ll be comfortable and that’s all that counts at 60!
      Btw, I still wear slip on shoes and I swear by wind River shorts.
      Cheers, loved the comment,

      That bike set up wouldn’t have worked for me on this trip because I was planning to go up into the steep mountains on single track and I wouldn’t want that weight hanging off the sides. I like the minimalist streamline setup. I can’t really comment on what’s in fashion because I don’t pay attention even though it might look like I do - and I do agree.
      🤣 If I was going to design saddlebags I would steal that name! I used an “ass rocket” last year Season 1 but this ride is a rack with a big round sack and I freaking LOVED it! It was my not-in-fashion design! I’d never go back to an “ass rocket.”

    I like the way you do the route on the map. Use some lotion on your cycling shorts chamois if you have one🚵.

      Thank you!! That’s a great idea but for this particular situation with so much moisture in the air, wet fabric, sweat - I think it would’ve made it worse.
