In 2006 they had to take the lead out of the solder they used for the instrument cluster causing it to be very brittle
Good answer. What's the problem with the 03-05 town car flickering display? Bad solder joints. Just fixed mine.
I'm starting to think a lot of years had display problems.
Can you drive with out the cluster will it start while getting repaired ?
please any advice is really appreciated, i just did this today and heres a quick rundown if anyone wants to help a kid out;
1. when key is turned to 3, engine light flashes for a moment, mightve just been when i reconnected battery but unsure.
2. when car is running - headlights off, max brightness odo. parking lamps on, odo and cluster goes to dimmest setting despite the slide control position. headlights on same ordeal.
3. when car is off key in 3rd turn, lights off max brightness odo, parking lamps on it goes full bright but dims quickly 2 seconds after. headlights dim no matter what.
once i get annoyed enough with it i will check some connections another day.. until then any and i mean any help is appreciated.. will be pasting this on another channel as well, if i cant get it whoever helps me i will honestly paypal u like 5 bucks if you want lol. thanks

Dude THANK YOU for this video. This is the simplest, most direct video on youtube for how to pull one of these things out. every other video ive seen people are pulling apart way more of the dash than they need to. Had this done start to finish in two hours, including the time to re-solder the connections on the back of the cluster to fix it cutting in and out. THank you!!!!!

@@azizshavershian2065 not that simple. There are MULTIPLE spots. And even then it's only temporary ig you don't replace the proper components.

Mine has it where the odometer is either dim or off. I wonder if that's the same issue.
Everything works fine on mine. Just the millage won’t show up?
Thats usually the first thing to fail. Full power loss is inevitable on these clusters.

I Sent my 2010 cluster in to them for the odometer fix and another light fix and had Blue led lights installed.
Looks nice. matches the radio and console backlighting.
Quick 24 hr turn around (they got mine on a friday and i got it back wed)and the cluster is rebuilt with lifetime warranty.
U can fix urself but its a matter of time before another solder joint fails and ull be taking it out again.
How exactly do you fix it yourself, replace a fuse?

Think I beat the system but also I could be real lucky. I fixed mine just yesterday. Intermittent problem. Instrument cluster lost power when I drove on bumpy roads. Would go out for a second. Then, minutes. That turned to hours and days and it was off for a week before I was driven mad by not knowing how much gas was in the thing. I should do a video on how I fixed mine. Just in case by luck others had the same cause as mine.

I’d go watch the numerous other videos. It’s a very easy fix, instead of falling for this click bait that cons people into sending it to him for repair.

What is that orange light with the person sitting sideways? It is on during most of this video. My car gets that on every once in a while. Thanks.
That is the airbag light.
What is it supposed to be hooked to? It blinked on and off for a couple minutes in my driveway and gave me a "ding-ding" tone, then it stayed on solid with no tone for a few miles, when I stopped for gas. After the fill, it went out as normal after startup and hasn't misbehaved since. Doesn't make sense.@@AutomotiveCircuitSolutions
@@413x398 That light being on mean there is a fault in your airbag system. It could be a bad connection somewhere, a faulty impact sensor etc. Best to get its scanned with a scanner capable of reading airbag faults to determine what needs to get done. Without a scanner it's a guessing game.

Mine is doing the exact same thing
2009 grand marquis. 44k miles. Went over slight bump in road, then ABS,traction control, and red brake warning light came on and stayed on ever since.
Car runs fine otherwise and speedometer and cruise control ok.
Pulled code with pocket scanner and got U1900 missing CAN message from HEC. Plugged in Autel Maxisys scanner and could not communicate with high speed CAN. Was able to communicate with door module and lighting control module and restraint module. No communication with PCM, ABS,or Dash cluster. Since cluster is gateway module, I was wondering if that could be the issue.
Measured data link voltage at pin 16 okay. Pin 4&5 ground okay. Got 61 ohms at pin 6&14 okay. However got 7 volts at pin 6 (CAN high) and 7 volts at pin 14 (CAN low).
I have no access to a lab scope at this time.

Good and some are the same as this problem what I've noticed is after 200K These clusters start having that issue especially if drive on dirt
Roads and where thiers alot of street dips as well as speed bumbs. My problem was I used my Vic to go shooting to the hills and did lots of offroading anyhow I figured out how to repair them soon all post a video so guys can learn and save Money

Good idea to swap the glitchy cluster with a working cluster to save time on repair?

@@sethzaidorf1433 nope I made it worse. Popped it back in the car and it lit up like a Xmas tree. Had to ship out to get fixed by a specialist. I think I didnt have the right flux core and and cheap soldering iron but im inclined to believe i just didn't know what the hell i was doing
You forgot to calibrate the shited indicated on the cluster.
Someone removed the cluster before and broke the shift indicator cable, I didn't bother repairing it. The way I removed the cluster I shouldn't have to calibrate it.
The cluster should only be calibrated if you remove the gage needles. If going in from the rear to repair the solder joints, there is no need for calibration.
when i turn my car on nothing shows up gas, millage, speed etc.
My 06 p71 samething happened today only lights r working in cluster is airbag n turning signals. So what u done to fix it plz let me know
@@doublebasilhazelnut4382 same thing happened to me today. My mechanic gave the black plastic cover ABOVE the cluster a good smack and its back to normal (for now). It is most likely to be a lose connection behind the dash.
"The gauges pro" in Tennessee found them on Ebay cheapest($60) I sent the cluster to them next day shipping$36 they notified me got it fixed it same day I received it within 3days installed back in everything works good like was before

As far as I know the cluster we have to send it in my case California because I leave in New York and that takes about two weeks to get it back in the mean time I can’t drive the car because it won’t start my is the one for the gas it only does it when it’s too cold but it goes up in less than 10 minutes and that’s only sometimes when I put gas
