Not only the war in Ukraine was from a modern-day era. She rented a laptop to search for a job online at that Internet cafe. It was so expensive! One of the most surreal scenes in the film.
Yeah GREAT point! Wish I had remembered that in the review but a fantastic example.
Knowing the city where the film is filmed, the old/new dichotomy is even more striking and interesting. Some outdoor scenes show for example modern trains or in the background of where Holappa lives there are office buildings constructed only recently and with clear 2010s architectural style but then when we cut to the indoors of the train Ansa takes it is very old. They really are trapped in past due to their sittuation
