    I used to attend your church (yes, yours, mile high), as well as Unity. I found Unity more spiritual, focusing less on trying to manifest for myself, and more on just love, God’s and mine. They each scratched a different itch. In the end, the focus on love won, but I can’t say I regret learning about positive expectation and visualization, either. Both sets of teachings served me well in life.

    Very nicely said! I have been involved with Unity for almost 40 years, came to it via a 12-Step program. Somewhere along the line I was also led to Science of Mind. Both are strong, sustaining, beautiful parts of my spiritual life. Even after so many years of attending a Unity church, I still often cry through most of the service, because it is so loving and affirming of who I am. Of who we all are. Raised in a Lutheran framework, I never felt any connection to the Divine. Now I do through Unity and Science of Mind. I love both magazines, Daily Word and Science of Mind. I find the articles and columns in SoM to be so rich and inspiring.
    I agree very much with everything Dr. Medrano said about the differences and similarity. And about the umbrella of love. I am so grateful for both, they compliment each other beautifully.

      I am where you are, Wendylee (or closeby). I have been involved with Religious Science (Centers for Spiritual Living) for decades. About two months ago, I tried a Unity service, and I am preferring Unity right now (that's jjust where I am at, right now). My beloved husband of 35 years (41 together) passed away a year ago, and I am just find the Unity service more comforting. I bless all of my brothers and sisters, though, as Rev. Medrano stated.

    Thank you for clarifying that. I grew up in science of mind and there isn’t one where I live, but they have a unity church. I want to stick with that philosophy.

    When my mother in law was in the hospital several years ago, we went out to be with her. We were practitioners. They had one Unity chaplain, and she asked my wife to do a treatment because she had never heard a formal SOM treatment before.

    Beautifully inclusive and clear. Thank you! I've been to Mile High and a few Unity churches and appreciate the experience of both. I love that we can seek what calls us and be filled with what we need differently, even from one Unity church to the next. Each has its own feel, and the loving atmosphere of Science of Mind and Unity is so needed right now.

    OK its official; I love her! This was such a marvelous explanation and given with such a spirit of love and respect for both.
    I started in Unity because at the time I heard Johnnie Coleman had started there and she was my first into into New Thought. But after about two years I shifted to Science of Mind, (OC Smith, Beckwith) and my entire soul//MIND opened up! I have often shared the same about the difference too. Nothing against Unity at all, but after years of Jesus and charismatic Christianity I was a bit burnt out and didn't FULLY trust anything even with a subtle hint of old Christianity. Plus I love the mental aspects of Religious Science. ( Always be R.S. to me) Thanks for this video!

    I liked your idea of Jesus as "the example" rather than "the exception." Jesus himself said "Greater things than these will you do." The mindset of Jesus as the exception is disabling and it seems contrary to his teaching.

    • @MileHiChurch
      @MileHiChurch  Рік тому

      I believe that seeing Jesus as an example rather than an exception can help us better understand and apply his teachings to our own lives. When we focus solely on his divine nature, we may overlook the fact that he was also a human being who faced challenges and struggles just like we do. By seeing him as an example, we can learn from his teachings, his actions, and his character, and strive to live our lives in a way that reflects those same values.

    One great similarity between the two is, we have no central evil character, a Satan or Mara, if you will. No demons, no imps, nothing of that nature. And of course, no hell. Jesus and Paul were both devout Jews. No matter what has been changed in their bio's and letters, they were Jews til death. And there is no hell in Judaism. Any mention of it in the New Testament was either a metaphysical 'interior' reference, or inserted by later theologians as control mechanisms. We hold to One Power and that Power is Love. 'Those who do not love do not know God, for God is love.' New Testament

    Thank you. Just to also add that Unity uses a 5 step process for prayer and has metaphysically interpreted the New Testament (Fillmore Bible Study). Jesus is our Wayshower and we explore the Christ as it is expanded and delivered through each of us. The indwelling source (God) is where our health, happiness, and abundance is made easily available to us, easily found when bringing conscious awareness of this source to the area of our heart with gratefulness. Meditation is very important and the 5 Principles (1st- There is one power and presence through everything everywhere.) The 12 Powers are invaluable to understand as well. Merci! Well defined. And actually, there is only ONE right way. The ONE that is right for the individual. Otherwise there wouldn't be so many roads to the ONE. Blessings. :-)

    Great explanation! I was raised with Science of Mind and currently attend a Unity church in my area, just because it has a great vibe 🙂. I don't see much difference between the two except maybe in the terminology used. For instance, Unity talks a lot about prayer whereas SoM would use the word treatment or affirmation.

    wow! I am a member at Unity of Wilmington, but only found myself brought to its practical teachings New Thought about a year ago. Where are there Science of Mind churches? I didn't know y'all were a formal organization. I love Ernest Holmes. There is a power for good.

  • @mysticwolf75
    @mysticwolf75 9 місяців тому

    One of the big differences is that Charles Filmore was one of the few New Thought founders who believed in reincarnation, whereas Ernest Holmes and most others (off the top of my head, Nona Brooks, Malinda Cramer, Raymond Charles Barker) did not believe in reincarnation but, as Ernest Holmes said, "The continuing evolution of the soul, ever onward and upward". Ernest Holmes also once said in regards to reincarnation "My soul is fresh and new", but my favorite has to be Raymond Charles Barker when he said, "Believe in reincarnation if you want but don't expect to find me here again". Personally, I do not believe in reincarnation, mainly because of several dreams I have had about the afterlife (which I'm convinced are true), but it's really a gut feeling and what my heart tells me. However, I know a lot of people believe in reincarnation and that's fine for them - I believe there are many paths to God. But for me, once through this life is enough. Of course, it also depends on what you mean by reincarnation, as we are "reincarnated" many times in this lifetime, as when a person says "I'm not the same person I was 10 years ago", so there's that to consider, as well.

    That was a great explanation. Aren't The Science of Mind and Unity both offshoots from Christian Science by Mary Baker Eddy?

    • @mywingedwords
      @mywingedwords 4 місяці тому

      Actually no; Christian Science has some similar roots but a different philosophy. Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science taught that only she received the teachings, not others. Christian Science also teaches that healing comes only from within (no doctors) while New Thought teachings explain that healing comes through all modalities including the medical profession. Christian Science denies the material aspects of life as illusions while New Thought (Science of Mind, Unity, Divine Science) do not deny the experiences of our mortal lives.

    How does Science of Mind compare with ACIM?

    • @MichelleMedrano11
      @MichelleMedrano11 5 років тому +10

      Hi Joshua....ACIM is considered a "channelled" work and the many of the concepts in it do align with Science of Mind. While many of our Centers host ACIM groups, we don't include ACIM as part of our teaching. For me, sometimes the language in ACIM is a but dualistic at times....yet I love most of what I read in it.

    she does not talk about the difference of Science of Mind prayer treatment (what are those steps?) and Unity's prayer process which is Affirmations and Denials.
