I'm always interested in hearing any music by Benjamin Lees, and here is a solid, bracing work that introduces me to the solo piano corner of his oeuvre. His brilliant writing for the instrument reminds me of Villa-Lobos' style. My interest never waned throughout this excellent exercise, though perhaps pianist Conti could have been less emphatically percussive and allowed it to show a gentler contrasting aspect.
