Thank you! Decided against any serious mountaineering and just had a nice camp instead

Cheers! It's a stunning spot, and so remote and wild feeling considering it's just an hour from the car parking at Kilmarie. Camasunary bay itself is beautiful and has a bothy to use, and Sgurr na Stri is just about the best place in Scotland for a mountain camp.

I'm looking at heading up to Scotland in July and the Cuillin Ridge traverse and the mountains that surround it, I'm thinking of camping on parts of the ridges plus other area's, and hints to where is best to wild camp there please ... Love Scotland and it's Mountain's... Great vid 👌

You won't regret an attempt on the ridge. I've actually yet to do the whole ridge myself, but I've researched it a lot for a winter traverse. There aren't many places at all on the ridge to pitch a tent, but a good few spots to bivi on. To pitch a tent you need to drop off the ridge to slightly lower ground. There's a bivi cave on Sgurr Sgumain which is a great option if you're going to split a traverse over two days. My intended camping spot for this trip was Sgurr na Stri which is possibly the best viewpoint in Scotland, and has a few spaces for a tent. I'd access this from Kilmarie via Camasunary Bay (which has a great bothy) and then up onto the mountain, but a lot of folk opt to walk in from Sligachan, which is a beautiful but long walk. Loch Coruisk is accessible from Camasunary Bay, and is worth visiting, and you can access the ridge via some classic scrambles from there. I tend to obsess over the Cuillin on Skye, but the Quirang and the Old Man of Storr are worth a visit and a wild camp. Beyond the Fairy Pools there's a great scramble to ascend onto the ridge up Sgurr an Fheadain, and Glen Brittle is great for camping and ridge access down that way.

@@adventurefilmclub2549 awesome will look into the first route you mentioned, I'll try and find any route info, I've looked at some vids on UA-cam especially for winter, and noticed there's a few platos just of the Cuillin Ridge , which might work, will also look into bivvy on the ridge or the cave, will do some homework for July and fingers crossed get some good weather for some drone shots.. would you say I need a rope to abseil anywhere on the ridge ? where it would be quicker as I did notice a couple of gaps that might need it... if I can get a route map of the route from start to finish then I can definitely get it planned... I'll probably stay in Fort William for a couple of days, then head over to Isle of Skye and I'll check on the weather forecast for sure ... ps just subscribed to your channel... when you talk in the background on your vids... I keep thinking Gandalf is going to appear in front of the camera 🤣😉🤟 great vids ...

@@waynerenshaw-multi-outdoor4521 catching a 2 day weather window is probably the biggest challenge on the ridge tbh 🤣 but basing yourself in Fort William to check weather etc is a good idea. Always the north face of Ben Nevis as a back up option from there too. I'd definitely take a rope, always makes me feel better knowing I can abseil out of trouble if I have to... depends which way you take the ridge on really, as the direction flips from summer to winter so that the technical climbing sections on the summer traverse can be abseiled past in winter. North to south is easier and means you can abseil past the climbing sections, but if you're feeling hardcore and are happy soloing graded climbs, south to north might be fine. I'd only take on something like the TD Gap with a partner and rope out myself, so if soloing I'd go for the easier abseil option. Water is a big issue up there too, you need to carry loads or nip up and stash some halfway along. And cheers! I do go a bit Hebridean and mystical when doing a voiceover video 🤣

Beautiful & breathtaking, esp. the sunrise sequence. Skye is special. I traversed the ridge in June 96 with an overnight bivi at the top of Banachdich - magic - enjoying your videos, bringing back all kinds of memories.

Cheers! Sounds like a cool adventure. I'd love to bivi out up there. I've actually yet to do the whole ridge! I was hoping to get it done this summer, but I might just head up and attempt it in winter!

@@adventurefilmclub2549 Getting a settled weather window at summer can be tricky. We were lucky in 96 - it had been misty & wet for a few days beforehand and we were thinking 'next time'.
A winter attempt would be epic ! I'd love to see footage of that. I've covered sections around Mhadaidh & Ghreadaidh with snow & ice and it becomes very Alpine .
Winter Cuillin conditions don't hang around, although I climbed a good snow/ice route "The Chasm" ( III-ish) at Easter one year.

@@gordonmidgley8958 I'd love to get a winter ascent, and maybe even take the GoPro for a wee film of it. I'm lucky that I'm on Skye at least 10 times a year for work, so always have my gear ready to go just in case a weather window coincides.
