    I just started guitar about 4 years ago after an accident. I was 72 then. I found your channels about that time. You have been truly an inspiration. I’m still doing it. Got a good teacher. It’s given me a great amount of my life back-that I’m able to do in a wheelchair and do something I love. I’ve got about 120 Gordon Lightfoot sons on my IPad. And about 20 of yours. Thank you Bro. Cormier! I watch something from you almost every night. Stay with us!

    I disagree with your assessment, JP. It all depends on what your "shtick" is. I am NOT a UA-camr but I do dabble in guitars (like you, I'm a huge Boucher fan with my PS-SG-161) and I also dabble in drones and photography. Now, doing what YOU do (i.e. play/talk guitar for an hour) takes pretty much that for you to "produce" - an hour +-. OTOH, a good one-hour drone video tutorial can take days of planning, shooting, location hunting, post-editing, sound matching, and on and on. BIG difference in time and effort. I see why you have no inclination to quit UA-cam. Why would you? Minimal effort, little to no cost, etc, but I can see why many of those UA-camrs offering time-consuming productions would have enough in no time. To each their own but let's not put everyone in the same bag.

    Not everyone is doing youtube content from their living room,come on you set one camera up and talk and play guitar which we are happy watching however, many youtubers are out chasing content, don't put them all in the same pot.

      Well said. We do indeed appreciate John getting in front of the mic and sharing his skills and knowledge. It's just that it's not the same game as running a multimillion dollar company (tens of millions, even), being the face of it in the content, and raising a young son with a wife who is also an executive. That's what MatPat has been doing. When the thing you built can generate 1.3 million dollars for a charity in a nine hour stream, I'm not sure the words "UA-camr" or "influencer" on their own precisely capture the dynamic.

    Hey, from PEI. I truly think most of those "I'm gonna quit" videos, are taking a page out of KISS / Gene Simmons book! How many "Final Concert" shows did they do, and just kept coming back. I mean, come on FFS. Which actually stems from the fucking furniture store industry! I think Gene was sitting home one night yankin' his doodle dandy, and seen the hundredth "going out of business" sale commercial and thought, "What a brilliant idea!" Those idiots aren't going anywhere... they're just trying to make a new trend. That's my opinion anyway. Have some great shows bud!

    All any of the complainers have to do is go back to an ordinary every day job........whether they are white collar/professional, sales, service, or the Skilled Trades. Do THAT for a solid month, and I would bet the farm these whiners would change their minds about "how sick & tired" they have become pertaining to producing youtube videos.

    I just do it for fun and it's not my job. I don't do as many gigs as I used to and this is a way I can interact with people, share my music, knowledge and it's just fun. Almost at 500 subscribers. I have more videos then subscribers 😂. If I get fed up with it, it's not because of my UA-cam not getting to a 1000 subs. It's because I found something else more fun to do. Lol...

  • @rmzzz76
    @rmzzz76 8 місяців тому +1

    The "taking themselves too seriously" comment has some weight. Every UA-camr that I've seen who's put up an "I'm leaving" video puts an incredible amount of work into the production and editing of their videos. Probably because they've been told you must do that to keep subs high...Even if that is true, if at some point it's become more about money than the joy of doing it, scaling back production cost is always an option.... The reason that won't happen is pride. They've worked themselves up to a certain tier and they feel they have to maintain a certain quality or will loose respect or some other horseshit reasons rooted in either insecurity or being disingenuous

  • @wyrdedwurd
    @wyrdedwurd 8 місяців тому +1

    Two things. Firstly, it seems to be a fact that lots of UA-camrs are hanging it up right now. Secondly, even though you didn't speculate on the reasons for this trend in your video, you seem to be implying that it's simply a matter of people taking things too seriously. I'm certain you're overlooking some nuance and it would also be an astronomically improbable coincidence that so many are "taking themselves too seriously" all at once. There's more to the story. I mean, Leslie the Bird Nerd just posted an "I'm quitting" video. Tell me you think she's just been "taking herself too seriously".

    I think most of them are getting copy right strikes for instance Rich Beato and I dont think he can be monitised because of his content ,and I do agree with his issues in a way but look at all the exposure he is getting ,at the same time I think it is important to show older artists achievements and Songs because the new Music today seems to be way different in way how its made and arranged there are a few other platforms that gives you a little more freedom like Twitch and Kick but it will still come down to copy right infringements and thats because of old platforms Like Naptster that abused Artist and gave thier music away for nothing

    J.P., I think the pressure may come to some UA-camrs because they deal in controversial topics and get a lot of hate directed at them. Politics and religion will be bring the haters.
    BTW, if you quit UA-cam I'd end up buying way fewer guitars. Because of you I bought a few Yamahas, and recently three Alvarez Yairi Honduran Mahogany guitars. I'm going broke.

    I think this is the equivalent of sports stars or music stars "retiring" then coming back a year later. Not to mention, some of these folks maybe "quitting" but you can be sure they aren't taking down their channels. They will continue to reap the rewards of all those videos and shorts for years to come. Look at UA-camr Tom Scott. He released a "I'm quitting" video a few weeks ago. He's got over 6 million subscribers! His estimated earnings are between $65k and $1M a year! He gains about 200k subs a month. His videos are very elaborate so I can see why he's taking time off, the amount of time and effort required to make his videos must be amazing. They're not just simple talking head videos. Then there's Matt Pat, The Game Theorists. He's got over 18M subs. He's "retiring" in March. Yet he's got a total of 5 channels. All with millions of subscribers each. He won't be hurting for income. His videos feature heavy animation, so that can take a ton of work too. But once you reach a million subs, why not downshift into making one video a month if the grind is too much? Anyway, I'm sure UA-cam will limp along without these heavy hitters! LOL

    I understand that you think that making UA-cam content is "easy", but there are so many factors that you may not think about. Production value, different content, maintaining viewership, maintaining a brand, advertising, editing, filming, ideas, stories etc. Obviously you want to keep your audiences engaged. If this is working for you that's awesome. But some youtubers have to invest a fuckload of time in money to put into 1 video. I'm just trying express that not everyone can just put their phone on their dash and do a 1 take shot and not worry about anything else except for what they're talking about. It all depends on the content and production value, time and money that you put into your videos.

    See my previous comment. I forgot to mention a message I have for all of the youtube content producers who are whining & complaining about "how hard it is to create videos"............NOTHING in this life comes easy, it's ALL hard work in one way or another. ALSO: It's a historical fact that the most successful people also happen to be the people who failed the most. The difference in those who eventually enjoy great success is the fact they never gave up. Giving up is easy.

    I missed the Exeter show 😢 I didn’t even know and it’s 15 minutes from my house😅 ……
    Personally I didn’t quit because it was hard to do. Actually I loved doing it, it was a lot of fun doing live streams and talking with people. And I might do it again some day. Foolishly I stopped because of two crappy comments I got. One was from someone, who I considered a hero of mine that I really looked up to, who I thought actually liked me. The other comment was from a jealous groupie of that same person. 😅 I only blame myself for caring too much about what people think of me as a person rather then a half arsed musician.

    They thought youtube might make them rich. UA-cam pays, on average, $1800/million views...it takes a 55.5 million views to make $100K unless youtube decides to up your average pay. If the youtuber can't sell cups/mugs/shirts/downloads or whatever, they aren't going to make much money..
    I'm just an amateur hack. Started making videos as I recovered from a couple of strokes. Then had cancer surgeries and stopped for a while...I didn't get "better" at guitar during this time. Never had plans to "make it" on this after retiring.
    But for those younger people who aren't making a real living...they're staring life in the face and reevaluating their business approach.

    UA-cam is becoming unwatchable. The volume of ad's is increases exponentially. The length of ad's has gone from 5 sec and is now approaching the 30 sec time slot numerous times within the video the creator is providing. Watching youtube is annoying as hell with all the ads from youtube and then on top of that the creator inserting their sponsors. I have tried rumble, it is good but lacks content. Have noticed that more and more creators are showing up there. Hopefully more continue the migration.

It personally brightens my day to hear the way you speak about guitars, and I learn so much…glad you are here!

    Now, who at Yamaha do we need to email to get an FG9 in your hands so we can see your review of that rascal?

    There are a few UA-camrs I watch who are very concerned about upping their production values, but with some, I enjoyed their earlier more "raw" videos as much if not more When I watch stuff on UA-cam, I'm not looking for Martin Scorsese, and in the UA-cam context, raw is great. If I follow you on UA-cam (and I follow you on UA-cam), it's because you have interesting content delivered in a way that's honest and entertaining. I'm glad it's easy and fun for you. Keep the videos coming.

    Hey JP. FANTASTIC VIDEO brother! I laughed my arse off through the entire thing. I need to go look for it as soon as I post this comment. I subscribed and started watching you from the start. I don’t have time to watch all your videos but I am never disappointed when I do. Your secret JP, is no secret. You just described it perfectly in this video. I found you because you are an amazing guitar player. But there are hundreds, maybe thousands of amazing players out there. You are special for the sheer joy you exude when you make music. I feel your happiness every time I watch and hear you play. I love you JP. Keep it up.

    My issue with UA-cam is the sly censorship and demonetization practices.i started watching after I retired during bad weather and fell in love with the platform. Saw things and people I never would have before. Like seeing and hearing my 1st Boucher guitar, wow! Thank you J.P. For your work and great playing!

    You are a font of guitar information. And this knowledge has helped so many of us find our guitars. For me, an “Excellent” 1989 Alvarez-Yairi DY-90 which showed up on Reverb one Saturday afternoon from what looked like an estate sale. Your lessons helped me to know that it was a great guitar worth a bid. Now a close friend. I always think of you when I play it. And I am glad you are going to continue this service for countless others like me.

    You and Randy helped me find MY guitar(ibg j45/). In turn it has inspired me to practise and play again. Further, my grandson seems to have caught the bug too!
    Imagine that thousands of miles away a grandad and grandson have something to unite them because of your video.
    Pretty trippy❤ from 2 generations

    Thank you JP for what you do. I first started watching your videos when you would review guitars and compare them to Martin guitars, and you would share your experience with the "holy grail" Martin guitars. You might be the best acoustic guitar player I've ever heard. You play with such passion and feelings, and it inspires me.
    You made a video about the Yairi DYM 60 HD guitar, that just stuck in my brain. I hit you up direct message and you replied to me and we had a really nice chat and you assured me that I would be blown away. On your word I bought one brand new. Got a good deal from a dealer in Texas! A few months later I wanted an OM. I had a Martin OM28 but it wasn't a great one, and it had some problems, including the neck reset but it still wasn't great and even though I loved it, I sold it. You assured me that a Boucher OM would be the best OM I could ever get. I found a dealer in Newfoundland that sold me new one at a really good price. What I want to tell you is your passion and love for Guitar and Music.. it helped me. I have had both of those guitars now for about a year and they are opening up and they are becoming so phenomenal. They started out being phenomenal but now they've morphed into this amazing organism of sound!
