I have lived in the US for 32 years & I have never had to turn off my light bulbs (where needed), my HVAC (A/C & heat furnace all 4 seasons), etc. I have a pretty large family & we have 2 freezers (1 deep & I upright) & 2 double door refrigerators. I have never had to turn anything off. Like you said, these are self-regulation, with in-built energy saving mechanisms. These guy still think we are in the 1960s when they can say anything becos people can not verify their information. Nigerian office holders (from the president all the way down to clerks in their offices) are so bereft of sound minds. They always sound very foolish to me. An accountant who's a power minister that doesn't understand how cooling appliances works. Cooling appliances does not consume energy when they reach their optimum cooling. It consumes more when they are turned off and on. I will not turn off my freezer with all my food stuffs inside especially in Nigeria with unstable power supply but I can turn off lights that are not in use especially outside lights.
