- 23-year-old VC Young Artist Diyang Mei from China performing the 1st movement of Stamitz Viola Concerto - where he was awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD International Viola Competition - in Munich, Germany.
This guy is a legend. Auditioning for the Royal Northern College of Music and Royal College in a few months and this is hard to make sound easy! (But he does it insanely well)- Update: I'm at the RNCM :)
Lol congrats 👏
It's a really beautiful piece and I'm really happy that you got in.
Congratualations 🎊🙏🍀🍀🍀🎶🎻= à la Viola ‼️‼️‼️All the best to you, 🙋♂️
Despite the accidents at the start and middle, I still prefer Mei's version over others. His artistry and interpretations of this concerto is amazing.
Just horrible editing... Sound and picture are apart
100% disagree.. this is terrible.
@@bcjohnson3theres no reason for such Hard wording... but whatever, he wont care about your opinion anyways
@@bcjohnson3 Can you recommend a perfect recording of this piece? Every one I've ever heard has mistakes. I think this is a piece that is extremely difficult to get just right.
That open A and harmonic in the octaves- this good sir has a 200 IQ 😂🔥💯👏👏
This genius actually changed my life with his fingering.
He is already a legend at his young age. Absolutely inspiring playing.
The sound he gets out of his viola is insane man
Such elegant and sophisticated playing! Bravo!
so nice to hear a new recording, and a live one, with so much artistry. Thank you!
Absolutely amazing performance… big heart player!
2:19, he plays the first two chords (F# A D) just brilliantly and appropriately of the period.... and then he misses that next F# and goes right to an almost perfect G!
I love his interpretation by the way and hopes he gets to make a track with great label (where hopefully he can make some cuts and his own tasteful musical choices).
I have a feeling why he went from the wanted F# to the unfortunate G was due to some teacher's *special* and/or particular finger markings.
I know that my teacher had finger markings that made things so much harder, but also, so much easier in places too.
Lovely to hear the Stamitz Concerto again - Love from Liam in Australia :)
Dude as a violist that’s fantastic. I still haven’t played it.❤
Romantic interpretation to a classical piece as always
It's very good, someone could share the score, I can't access the cadence you play. thanks
I found the cadence on scribd ill link it for you

Do you know who the cadenza is by? It doesn’t say on scribd…
Maybe he wrote it himself, would be nice
The Cadenza was written by Franz Beyer
2:18
😊
3:20 - it felt like we lost a whole beat because he played (in bar 102) the last notes all as semiquavers.
We all do these things... I'm guessing!
2:20 Oh....
Does anyone know what the cadenza is? :)
Franz Beyer🤗
At 4:20 was that run supposed to sound like that?😂 Tell me if he messed up, or if that's how the song is actually played because for some reason it didn't sound right to me
Same
HTGaming415 You’re correct - it was a little bit sloppy. He also played a G natural for the third note in the piece instead of an F sharp (see 2:15). Personally, I can overlook those questionable “interpretations” because this guy is otherwise exceptional.
There nothing wrong a bout 4:20 .I am a viola player and i have played this concerto in many auditions ..
Yes he messed up twice. But as Colin Hetherington already said, since he makes this shitty piece sound like Mozart, it doesnt matter.
the dangers of 420...... great playing
Technically top 👍👌, "But" no soul and heart in it, it is in my opinion too technically, but right on and he made as a principale Violist of the Berliner Philharmoniker, congratualations! And all the best 🍀 🎻=à la Viola
Get a center-mounted chin rest. And take those final arpeggios at the end of the cadenza up to the high D.
He plays fantastically and chin rests are personal. Look at kashkashian side mounted completely.
Had a center mounted chin rest, messed up my shoulder and neck trying to adjust to it. Not for everyone for sure.
@@markkliesen8138 he's no Kashkashian (did you hear that first F# at 2:20? lol) and he's already playing well past the center of the instrument with his chin, the center-mounted chin rest is at least worth a try, probably would do amazing things for him!
He and his setup choices now send their regards from the first chair of Berliner Phil.
I don't understand why bagging on amazingly skilled players is such a popular pass time.
Viola = bad?
The wanna be launchpadder Dafaq?
Perfect end to steryothypes
