The people who survived the Kaprun tunnel fire only did so because a firefighter was among them, telling them to go down instead of up... It's events like these that makes me sad that so few people bother to take even basic fire safety courses. Not even to be able to fight a small fire, but just enough so you know the basics of how a fire works, as simply the direction you go can kill you if you make the wrong choice!
When I die, I hope that the story of my existence isn't spraypainted numbers on a windshield or the side of a house. After the Haysville/south Wichita tornado when I delivered mail, the symbols used for denoting cleared structures, and an accounting of all residents living, injured, and dead, I have a strong reaction to seeing it. I was there the day after, had to bring half the route back because it was gone, and hold others because the spray paint sigil on the siding indicated they were deceased and not coming back for it. That was a rough few weeks covering that route.
Wow. What a gut-wrenching expeirience to go through. I can't imagine what that must have been like for you. God bless you for persevering through that. I sincerely hope that you are able to come to terms with that trauma.

There was also another issue with the Hyatt Regency Walkways, the rods that supported the bridges were not only attached to the upper walkway, they were also cut into smaller segments that were attached to each other. This multiplied their load EVEN more because the first segment of the spilt up rods had to also hold the weight of all the other segments below it and caused them to sheer through the rivets that attached them together too.
The design was fine (single rods from ceiling all the way down to 2nd floor, with each floor supported by it's own bolts.) The builders split the rods so the 2nd floor weight was also held by the 4th floor, and the 4th floor bolts having twice the load, were just pulled through the beams.

Number 4, the Kaprun train disaster, you are misinformed. The heat blower that caused the fire was placed in the lowermost steering compartment which was locked so that passengers couldn't get to the fire that could easily have been extinguished with a normal fire extinguisher at the time of discovery. Unfortunately, the passengers also couldn't alert the driver to the problem, so he continued on, oblivious to the chaos erupting behind him. But to his defense, it has to be said that this was not his fault as there were no internal CCTV anywhere in the train and no mirrors that could show him what was going on either on the outside or inside. And he could not hear people scream fire behind him, partly I suspect because they were frantically banging their hands on the windows between them and him. Sadly, he too perished along with the 154 other victims. Unfortunately, the fire severed a line placed just above the heater which carried hydraulic fuel for the operation of the train, which had 2 immediate and catastrophic effects. The first being that the fire grew rapidly in size and became impossible to fight by the means available on the train itself. The second being that the train became inoperable and stopped on it's own accord. Not that of the driver. And thus, the nature of the fire changed from a crisis to a disaster. Adding insult to injury, had the traindriver been properly alerted when the fire was actually discovered, the train would still have been out in the open and everybody would have been able to evacuate the train safely.
The research isn't thorough. I got why Minneapolis was named, as that's where the bridge was, but two errors occurred within a minute of each other: 1. As you pointed out, calling Minneapolis the capital of Minnesota rather than the correct city, Saint Paul, and 2. Calling the bridge the I-35 Motorway Bridge rather than the I-35W Mississippi River Bridge. Not so much of the fact that they replaced Mississippi River with Motorway, but they got the interstate designation wrong. Had they realized it was I-35W and not I-35, they may have also noticed the real capital of Minnesota.
the video has inaccurate info and altered details to make the disasters more tragic sounding and tends to place blame mostly on parties that didn't bear full responsibility. monte blanc was the result of a discarded cigarette landing in an air intake pipe and setting the air filter on fire, and was compounded by miscommunication between the two crews that oversaw operation of the tunnel. however, this video make it sound like the tunnel was badly designed and had no safety features (it did, as the initial fire was detected by sensors before the truck entered the tunnel and the operators closed that direction of traffic within a minute, and there were safety bunkers that were utilized, even by firefighters, that lead to tunnels where they were able to leave the disaster from). the hyatt was NOT the fault of the designers, but instead was a result of the builders choosing to alter the original design because "it was easier to use two sets of rods instead of a continuous set" - as was depicted in the original design, which would have meant the fourth floor box beams would have only had to carry the weight of its own bridge, and not both bridges. Though, if the box beams had been turned into I beams then the bolts would not have ripped through the welds on the box beams and the disaster would not have occurred. additionally, the I-35W bridge was designed with the correct size plates, but for some reason that hasn't been discovered the ones used were only half as thick, and this was not picked up on until the plans were reviewed years later. also, the contributing factor in the bridge collapse was the result of construction materials being stored ON THE BRIDGE when the contractors were told not to do so, which brought the weight up to the failure point when you factored in the rush hour traffic. I personally wouldn't trust this channel as they pretty much used an AI voice to make everything sound professional, when in reality they are not doing proper research and simply prioritizing views and quick turnaround to make money.
The description of the Kaprun funicular disaster is wrongly documented. The whole train was full and the fire was started from a faulty ventilator in the empty conducteur cabin at the back of the train.
Anyone else notice during the surveillance footage of the Morandi Bridge collapse, that a car is visible going airborne right at the tower just before it collapses (14:17 , 14:22 , 14:28 ).
There’s also a brief shot at 44:50 that is very clearly a dead man with his head busted open wedged between two pieces of concrete. I had to rewind the video to make sure my mind wasn’t playing tricks on me.

Wow, this video really highlights some incredible engineering feats alongside their tragic failures. It's fascinating how something meant to connect us can sometimes lead to disaster. That said, I can't help but think that maybe we put too much trust in these structures without questioning their integrity. It's kind of scary to realize how many are in disrepair or just poorly designed. What do you all think?
Risking a bite to safe the dog would have been well worth it - he did get to the car after all. Disgusting. Do we really need to hear the screams of people as the Hyatt Walkway bridge collapses? I don't think so. The event was horrible enough without the sound effects.
Likewise for the stampede and collapse of the bridge in 19th century Portugal. It was stomach turning in both. The so-called 'dramatic effect' was unnecessary.
One important lesson in every tunnel: DON'T SMOKE AND DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR CIGARETTE OUT OF THE WINDOW. This was probably the course of this disaster, the airinlet of the truck probably sucked up this cigarette and came on fire.
It amazes me that 155 people didn't know that smoke rises, while also deciding to run, in a tunnel, UPHILL away from fire and smoke knowing they just got on a train to climb a giant mountain... I don't understand why natural instincts weren't to run down hill. How tf only 6 smart people out skiing in Austria?
You have two choices: rub towards the fire, or rub towards the closest exit of the tunnel. Most people will choose to run away from fire. It's unfortunate that more people didn't know how deadly the smoke was, but in a disaster situation you decide in a split second what to do, all while under tremendous stress. It's a common misconception that people die from being burnt in a fire, when the truth is that most people die from smoke inhalation. I don't blame the victims at all for weighing the fire as the deadlier option than the smoke, because most people would do the same. The only reason the people who survived the disaster did is because they took the advice of a firefighter-- someone who has specialized knowledge of fires. This isn't a dumb people problem. It's a general fire education problem.
Why don't they put sprinkler systems in tunnels? And i would think that many vehicles pushing simultaneously outward at each end would unclog them. Everyone just put their vehicles in reverse at the same time! Why wouldn't that work?
Consider: traffic up to the tunnel would also need to reverse. How far back do you imagine people spontaneously and simultaneously reversing? Do you drive? You would realise reversing is more difficult than forward motion, even without the stress of escaping a fire. Regarding smoke being cleared from the tunnel, that was pretty much what the design relied on. It had been adequate until this incident. All previous fires had been extinguished by the drivers, so sprinklers hadn't seemed necessay. A situation like this fire was not conceived of. I can't remember if this very short and sketchy item mentioned that the fire refuges provided were effectively ovens because a fire of this intensity was never conceived of, either.
You can't even get 1 stupid car (most likely a woman) to reverse, yet you expect hundreds of cars to do it? HAHAHAHA. That's like asking OJ Simpson if he killed Nicole Brown & her friends, or Boeing if they suicided their 2 ex-employees, or Killary if she killed the 4-5 former aides who were about to testify against her. Seen it with my own eyes. We were on I-24 Eastbound, about several miles to I-75 intersection. Traffic had come to a stand still. A fire truck needed to come thru, so the firefighters were walking ahead & telling drivers to move. I had seen the fire truck approaching my rear for the past 20 minutes. The lady behind me, in her 50's-60's, just sit there with her eyes straight ahead. I motion to her several times. No response. Finally, the firefighter walked up to her window, tap on her glass, then she finally notice.
Remember cars work on oxygen. Those near the truck stopped working simply because the car didn't have oxygen to start. The toxic fumes were so bad that even firefighters had to run away
I like this video but the only thing i didn't like that they put stats on each disasters, really you cant put how much money lost on materials and economics human life is more important
My question is, if the drivers of the cars in the Mont Blanc tunnel first saw the smoke appear, why didn't they then try to escape instead of just waiting?
The truck driver who's truck caught fire in the mont blanc tunnel survived the fire. His company suspended him 4 months for abandoning his vehicle. Sounds reasonable to me.
The Bass bin's 🔊in the trunk of that car were so loud it broke the bridge. Thats the real truth. The dog wouldn't come to the bloke because he couldnt hear him calling! He'd gone deaf. See, you always find the real truth on the Internet, if you really look 😁👍
I had a friend call me on the day of the bridge collapse. He was a CNN addict. He told me to turn on the tv because the I-35 bridge had collapsed. I laughed and didn't believe him. He said it wasn't a joke so I watched the news. Horrible.
What exactly was the truck driver supposed to do if he couldnt reach the fire? Id have run off too! Bit harsh sending him to jail! What about the people who loaded the truck? 😑
I don't remember where he was prosecuted but for example in Italy, if you caused an accident (either intentionally or not) you go to prison simply because of a law of penalty responsibility. To be precise 'homicide of 3rd degree' or 'not intentional murder'. It's considered still a murder. To be fair and make you slap your forehead...in Italy there was a case of a farmer ending in jail after he killed someone that entered his house

Very poor documentary, tons of misinformation along with inaccurate information and you can tell the narrative is done by A.I., It's disappointing that this and many other videos and documentaries are made this way strictly to grab your attention and gain as many views as possible, this creator along with 75% of UA-cam creators now use A.I. to complete their videos rather than doing the research themselves and making sure the facts and information is correct. The first subject states the Tacoma narrows bridge crosses the sea when it does not, It crosses the Puget sound strait and the Morandi bridge collapse in Genoa Italy, states that the bridge collapsed in 2008 which is off by ten years as it collapsed in 2018., Sadly this shows how the last generation was raised, taking the laziest and fastest way possible to complete things even if they may be wrong What's truly scary, is this last generation is now designing bridges and tunnels now. If they can't manage a simple video documentary such as this these are the exact same people now designing the same structures that failed in the video.Smh, it's a shame that these videos cannot be removed for false information.
The Mont Blanc tunnel incident who ruled for that the drivers family or were they in debt to him why did the one who abandoned ship and is 100% responsible for killing all those people just get suspended for few months while people that did everything they could to save the people and not responsible for the deaths sentenced to jail for 4 years wow forget fixing the tunnel fix the government that is clearly in more need of major overhaul as it is rotten to the core the tunnel after burnout is more structurally sound than the government

I swear that Italian/French tunnel one was an episode of 911 or Chicago fire or station 19 (can’t remember which one).
The giant sloth has better engineering skills in making tunnels than modern engineers. That should tell you something!
7:52 Minneapolis is not the capital of Minnesota. St. Paul is.
CORRECTION: The State Capital of Minnesota is St. Paul, NOT Minneapolis as stated in the video.
They could have just found 10,000 people to hold the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to prevent it from collapsing
I GENERATED GARBAGE! Unsub it!
The truck driver who's truck caught fire in the mont blanc tunnel survived the fire. His company suspended him 4 months for abandoning his vehicle. Sounds reasonable to me.
Did Minneapolis's crappy bridge shock THE WORLD!?
The Bass bin's 🔊in the trunk of that car were so loud it broke the bridge. Thats the real truth. The dog wouldn't come to the bloke because he couldnt hear him calling! He'd gone deaf. See, you always find the real truth on the Internet, if you really look 😁👍
The Tacoma Bridge should be named Tubby’s bridge 😢
Genoa. Is that where they make better cakes than bridges? 😂
Something else for 9 that the video doesn't mention is that it was ALL caused by the construction equipment that was on it at the time
Written like a high-school descriptive essay 😂😂
Talk about misplaced advertising! I got an advert for a “portable electric heater” just after the Kaprun Fire episode! Come on! That’s just not right.
People needed to leaved their vehicles and take off on foot toward the opening.
The capitol of Minnesota is St Paul not Minneapolis fyi
I had a friend call me on the day of the bridge collapse. He was a CNN addict. He told me to turn on the tv because the I-35 bridge had collapsed. I laughed and didn't believe him. He said it wasn't a joke so I watched the news. Horrible.
The Mont Blanc tunnel is NOT at 40 degress latitude - not even close

Why was Frog being spoken in #2 disaster in Kansas City ...
How about some subtitles?
@DanguoleSchiavone Dang. Glad I wasn't the driver! 👍
I like they are saying, it will never happen again! Is it like The Titanic will never sink.

This is the reason I do not like Bridges and the way I live I don't plan on going across any I am retired
Most of these collapsed because some accountant had decided to be cheap and buy the cheapest materials instead of buying the proper materials. Even the Titanic sank because the accountant decuded not to build the bulkheads to the full height of the ship.
St Paul is our capital, not Minneapolis
Number 3 wears it`s name well: Funikiller!
THe disaster in Genoa is in 2018, not in 2008
Very poor documentary, tons of misinformation along with inaccurate information and you can tell the narrative is done by A.I., It's disappointing that this and many other videos and documentaries are made this way strictly to grab your attention and gain as many views as possible, this creator along with 75% of UA-cam creators now use A.I. to complete their videos rather than doing the research themselves and making sure the facts and information is correct.
Tacoma collapse wasn’t due to thickness of deck. It was due to the shape of the deck. And has changed every suspension bridge deck since
No #8 only 400 economically?
#10, are you serious? it doesn't even qualify. a caterpillar didn't die, much less any human. WTF

So... are these tunnels and bridges up to the challenges of very hog and toxic EV fires 🔥???
3 people died in the Shopping area at the top of the Kaprun tunnel from the gas and toxins not everyone who was there.
😢
Do people have to change their ways
The Mont Blanc tunnel incident who ruled for that the drivers family or were they in debt to him why did the one who abandoned ship and is 100% responsible for killing all those people just get suspended for few months while people that did everything they could to save the people and not responsible for the deaths sentenced to jail for 4 years wow forget fixing the tunnel fix the government that is clearly in more need of major overhaul as it is rotten to the core the tunnel after burnout is more structurally sound than the government
Why don't they use sky hooks?? I just can't understand WHY THEY DON'T USE SKY HOOKS!!
And then use tartan paint applied with a left handed paintbrush 🤣
Disaster 9 I-35. Minneapolis is Not the capital. Saint Paul is the capitol of Minnesota. Where is a fact checker when you need one. I learned the capitals of all 50 states in 5 th grade.😢
The financial cost is always a bull-shark excuse because it shouldn't cost much at all to rebuild the structure.
Not to mention the costs of lawsuits

soon we may have an EV car or truck fire in tunnel fire problem ? the EV vehicle mandates and incentives are idiotic
Well, at least here in the United States the government can’t force people to buy them and so far the public has overwhelmingly rejected them. They’re only a fraction of new vehicles being sold here.

Although I agree with you. Panic causes you not to think clearly
I think it freaked out and he couldn't get it out from under/behind the seat. I've had this problem. NOT fun. Can't imagine on a moving bridge. Love my dogs, but they can be a PITA at the wrong time.
The dog was terrified because of the bridge motion. He froze and bit its owner when he tried to take him out, and he was too big to be carried. He had no choice but to run for his own safety. He was devastated.
