Still is I have had a crush on her since I was 4 I am 15 I'm American but my mom is full blooded English, (I guess 50/50) and my mom would put the sing along cd on and I know every song in the entire movie and I love this movie its my favorite Disney movie ❤️
@@dudetocartmanshe was younger than 29 when this was actually filmed. She was 28 when she filmed The Sound Of Music, which was filmed after Mary Poppins.
It's true that Mavis and Sybil have ways that are winning, and Prudence and Gwendolyn set your heart spinning; Phoebe's delightful, Maude is disarming - Janice, Felicia, Lydia? Charming! Cynthia's dashing, Vivian's sweet, Stephanie's smashing, Priscilla a treat. Veronica, Millicent, Agnes, and Jane? Convivial company, time and again! Drocas and Phyllis and Glynis are sorts, I'll agree are three jolly good sports, but cream of the crop, tip of the top, it's Mary Poppins, and there we stop!
When I was a little boy, my mother forced me to watch this and take piano lessons! I wanted G.I.Joe and Karate. Now I watch this with my kids and want them to be musicians. I still have issues with using umbrellas, but Mary Poppins is pretty gangsta' in my book...so is Bert! Thanks Mom!
Almost brings tears to my eyes! Too bad they didn't get married! Guys of today should take lessons from Bert on how to treat a lady. And I say that as a guy, LOL
Always come back to these old Disney films and realize just how difficult it must have been to film stuff like this. Even thinking back to how the Jungle Book played with one of the very first parallax scrolling backdrops, it makes the films even more magical.
1:48 - Fun Fact: That horse is portrayed by Disney Legend voice actor Paul Frees, who may be best recognized as the Ghost Host from the Haunted Mansion, and as a voice for numerous other projects across film, television and the Disney Parks.
The Sherman Brothers wanted to include Pamela's name amongst the names Bert rattles off in the song (for Pamela (PT) Travers, the author of the Mary Poppins books) but Pamela insisted on not including it, perhaps because it would be too self serving, However, other first names of the cast and crew were mentioned, including Glynnis (who plays Mrs. Banks)
When I was growing up, my dad's parents had the 'I Love to Laugh' VHS and this song, 'Jolly Holiday', was on it. Boy, do I miss my childhood, watching it!
Don’t know if it was consciously done but one of the names Bert mentions in the list of women is Glynis, which is the first name of the actress who plays Mrs Banks (Glynis Johns, 100 years young today Oct 5 2023)
Watched this most of my life; until today I never fully appreciated the Sherman brothers nearly enough. I think Walt was very keen on developing massive talent, then setting them loose on the world;what a legacy.
Well, considering that I once had that same feeling towards "Step in Time", which also had acrobatics that would be hard to do without professionals, you're not alone here.
Hearing this again for the first time in years, the only thing I'm wondering is who, exactly, all those women are that Bert named. Mavis, Syble, Prudence, Gwendolyn, Phoebe, Maud, Janis, Felicia, Lydia, Cynthia, Vivian, Stephanie, Priscilla, Veronica, Agnes, Millicent, Jane, Dorcas, Phyllis, Glynis. 20 women. Who are they? Are they like Mary, but to a lesser extent? Magic, that is? (I recall there being something of a belief that Mary is a Time Lady (Doctor Who). I'm not sure I disbelieve that, really . . .)
three things cross my mind as i re watch this: 1. i never realized how suggestive dick van dyke's name sounded. 2. as a kid, i didn't understand why mary looked so annoyed when bert was reciting all those womens' names. 3. it always bothered me that they never actually get served any food.
Also, I kind of noticed when Mary mentions how he would never press his advances and goes on and on about what a gentleman he is, he puffs out his cheeks almost to say "dammit. FRIEND ZONE"
Regarding the third thing you mentioned, they may have gotten their cakes, tea, and raspberry ice after it's all over. We never actually see them leave the cafe after all.
I like how Bert sings about how Mary makes everyone happy, and makes weather better, and makes animals start singing, Then Mary just says "even though you're poor, you probably won't rape me"
2.29 It's a blessed and lucky man indeed in this life that get's such expressions of appreciation and praise off of a woman in real life. Doesnt have to be as fluent as Mary, but respect and fondness brings the best out in all of us, that goes for women too.

I ❤ this song with Jolly Holiday from Disney’s Sing Along Songs: I Love To Laugh (1991). I like Walt Disney Classics: Mary Poppins (1964) with is still alive loved it.
I had to do this song in my local performance as Bert: that part with all those names so fast: kept getting tongue tied in rehearsals! Also, four penguins with the main characters: what's that? Madagascar, the Early Years? ;-)
The reason why Walt Disney didn’t add any romance between them was because he thought it would be too inappropriate, since it was a kids movie... I honestly would have been happy if they at least had one kiss in the movie.
And looking at this now at 25... Julie Andrews was absolutely stunning
She still is stunning
she still is

Sadly, he is not in Mary Poppins Return.
behind mary of course
@@kongphopkulsarin3161 - Dick Van Dyke indeed did dance in "Mary Poppins Returns" - at age 93! As I write this, Dick is almost 97 in late August 2022.
@@OldsVistaCruiser Dick Van Dyke returned in Mary Poppins Returns to play Mr. Dawes Jr. instead of Bert so Bert was not in Mary Poppins Returns.

Really fantastic song, when it comes to Mary Poppins and Bert, that everyone enjoys together.
Yup that’s it you got it👍😁.
Old Hollywood is the best! True talent, genuine beauty, and class. 👏🏻👍
She looks so beautiful and genuinely happy when she sings to him.
Yup I couldn’t agree more.
I’d be too

I always loved how Mary gets jealous when Bert rattles off that list of girls...:D
Maybe Bert dated them all

Being an adult is realizing how flawless these two are. Love them so much
I could not imagine how they did it without the CGI at that time!
Hand-drawn animation!
It's now sadly a very dead art.
when I was a little girl I wanted to grow up to be Mary poppins. I'm 22 now and I still wish I was Mary poppins sometimes.
Because all you have to do is snap your fingers and the room cleans itself up?

jolly holiday that song was a the greatest hits all the time before I watched mary poppins when i was born as a kid and i was only 1 years old
I think Mary Poppins and The sound of music are the best movies Julie Andrews played ❤
This is one of my favourite movies.
Dick Van Dyke was great in this movie. He also played the old banker who died laughing.
