Slim Dusty - Sniff the Digger's Dog

This may have very well become one of my favorite Slim Dusty songs. I love it. But: I'm having some chord difficulties, for those of you who strum along...
I know this song is in the key of E, like most of Slim's songs. Here's my problem:
The first chord is E.
Second is B. (easy chord there, Slim.)
But... the third chord stumps me! Might be A... don't think so...
Help!

What you think isn't the A chord is the A chord, Slim just strummed the D string instead of the E string after strumming the A string. And this is a good song too.
